What is your opinion on faith?

I have faith in open source coding, the demise of Impulse and a version of Windows that is fast and hard to hack and doesn't come with a crappy integrated web browser.

But I'd settle for a version of Linux that supports DirectX 9/10 and could easily run current and future Windows games.

But faith is best described in the immortal words of Homer Simpson: "You're living in a world of make believe, full of Elves and pixies, and cute little frogs, with funny little hats".

You gotta have it.  So says George Micheals.

Faith is fine as long as one keeps thy faith to thy self.

Because when you start converting others to thy faith it is then that thy shit starts hitting the fan and that thy world ends up in a situation similar to what you see today. Namely with thy extremist Muslims but also Christians and Jew. I could also go on how thy organised religions are the source route of evil in our current day for many reason, but thy is a subject for an other time.

And another place.  Continuing this topic for a even minut amount of time (and also breaking the first sentance of your post) is when the mods will lock this thread.  I see but 1 sticky at the top of this forum, topics such as this should be avoided.

I would agree mostly. And that completely includes those trying to push their lack of faith. It seems that if you have any religion at all, you must keep yourt mouth shut, as far as our society goes that is. Mentioning your religious beliefs is a no-no. However its completly acceptible for people to try to erase religion from every part of society.

Non-religion is in iteself a sort of religious belief. To turn the US into a no-religion country is also a violation of the seperation of church and state.

If you don't want someone trying to get their religion all over the place don't try to get yours, or your lack of, spread all over.

Let's avoid the inflammatory threads eh? Drive-by postings of one thread about faith (religion) and one about government (politics)--neither of which even expresses any opinion--aren't really helpful to anyone or to the forum. They're only going to serve to dredge up arguments.

If you want to discuss such things, please post under the appropriate category on JoeUser, and ideally give some opinion on the matter.

Everyone has faith in something. We must all choose what to put our faith in. Popular choices: God, Humanity, Karma, Science, Conscience, Good Behavior, the Universe.

Some faiths, such as faith in Humanity, allow for the possibility that there is no truth or absolute moral code. Others, such as faith in God, tend to hold that there is truth and there is absolute right and wrong.

Consider what you're saying implicitly, EadTaes:

1. You believe in right and wrong, as evidenced by your use of the word "evil" in reference to organized religion.
2. You believe that there are wrong actions, such as militant religious crusades.
3. You are telling what not to do based on your own convictions about right and wrong (first sentence).
4. So, you're imposing your faith on me by telling me not to share mine. : )

This isn't to say we necessarily disagree. I just want to caution you against such a strong phrase. There is absolutely nothing wrong with sharing what we believe, so long as we don't forcibly impose it on others.

Two great examples of forcible spread of faith:

- The bloody muslim conquests of Africa and Spain in the early first millenium (Islam).
- Nazi Germany's brutal conquest of Europe in the early 20th century (Racism).

Two great examples of the peaceful sharing of faith:

- Bible smugglers in the now-defunct USSR who risked everything to make Bibles available to Russians (Christianity).
- This thread (Various).

Just to reiterate: keeping one's faith to oneself is impossible and potentially inexcusible (such as standing aside and watching a little girl get mugged because stopping the thugs would impose your faith on them).
