Yes. I use the Source Code Project version, and it runs smoothly after I enabled the Windows95 compatibility (right click in the game icon - properties - compatibility).

I'd love to see a Freespace mod for SoaSE.  You have three races in that game, three races here, all three being somewhat similar to another.

Though, it would be great if we could blend the two, where you could pilot a bomber or strike craft in SoaSE, or even one of the guns on a ship / turret.  Don't think we can do that though with the tools we have.

 

And yes, Freespace 2 runs in XP with the Source Code Project.  The goodies you get there make the game A LOT more enjoyable visually!  Just look it all up in the Hard Light forums.

there is a fs mod in the works. I believe it even has a working version already, though I'm not sure how far along it is. I wanted to try it, but when I saw it, it had the wrong version number for me. when it has the right one, I'll sure check it out. I should take a look in the mod forums in fact.

if i get the fs from gog.com for $5.99 is it the full game? it says it's 1.2 gigs, and is it legal or should i buy it off ebay?

didn't they release the source code? I mean I think I found an improved version somewhere for free and I don't think it was illegal. it didn't matter since I own the game anyway, but had it elsewhere, but I'm not so sure you even have to pay at all.

I'm not sure about the free version.  Though it was technically legal at one point, now that GOG has it (which is completely legal) I don't know what the legality of the free version is.  So to answer the question, yes the GOG version is the full version and is legal.

Get the GoG version. It's legal, it's only 6 bucks, it's DRM free, it's the full game, it works on Win XP SP3, and you can install mods on it if you want to.
