Just getting started..
I know the texture is not perfect. I'm working on that. 
It's the XP start panel on my vista machine.
Thanks PDJ for allowing me to do this! I really like the way the DX looks, hopefully I can do it justice.
OK, here is where it stands....
I finished the XP style and loaded it into my XP computer for testing. Half the start menu was not showing and the toolbars were not showing. The strange part was that everything looked fine in Vista. Go figure. I could not figure out why it was messed up, I tried alot of things to make it work...no joy.
So, I started over. This time, I made the vista style first. It's currently being tested. As soon as I get the 'go ahead', I will start (redo) the XP substyle. Hopefully it will be just a matter of importing the images I have already made, and it will go quickly.

I havnt played with layers yet either...been playing with non WB stuff...but if that really works like you have shown then thanks for showing us old dogs new tricks. 
I don't know what works, old dog, but she sure did make this work. I think she has done an awesome job so far!

I made a DX Mini theme to go with this. I am really disappointed that they can't fix my account so that I can upload here. I don't want to make another site, that is too many sites. But I can't upload until they fix me. 
I tested this on xp last night. It looks good for the most part.
Cyndie, you may want to consider doing an xp substyle. Some people out there can pull off making the same start menu work on both platforms, but I haven't been able to so far.
I tinkered with it in SKS; fixed the right side, but really messed up some other things. Didn't save changes, though.
Mirsguy, I sent you the Vista style. I have not created the XP substyle yet, although most of the XP images are in there already. I always skin as much as I can on the main style first. That way, the substyle only needs a few new images and some margin tweaks. That's next. I just want to get it perfect in Vista first.
Oh. Sorry. I misunderstood. Thought you were havin' trouble in xp.
That's why I started over. Yo got the second build of it. But it's good to know that looks good in XP anyway. 
It's almose done...I just need to make a quick substyle, for those who use Firefox. All I really need to do is make light toolbars and statusbar, and it will be ready for upload.
