assuming you are serious:

"Frak" is allowed because it is not the actual curse word.  The reason curse words aren't allowed is because A) they might offend someone [which is because they are the actual words] and B ) because little kids play this game.

if you think that "Frak" should be banned, why not "fuzznuggits" or "freaking"?  after all, they are just substitues for the same word.

now, I know "freaking" has its own meaning, but when you say "hit that freaking cap!" its obvious what meaning you intend.

Stop. Saying. Words!
Your butchering of the english language is just too much to bear!

Why would the admins do anything, regardless? Unless you're a complete tool or retard, spamming cursewords in an attempt to sound cool every third sentance, I don't think any word is actually censored.

I'd like to argue that 'freaking' is it's own word, due to it's wide usage. Like "hit that bloody cap!" or somesuch. The times I've used 'freaking' in this context, it never ever occured to me that could be missunderstood as some kind of substitute for 'fucking'.

Just my two cents on the subject ..

Thinly veiled curse words are still curses, and, while I don't believe anyone should be punished for using them, the community should regulate itself and not take advantage of the policy.

If every other word in BSG was frak, it would lose its magic.  A lot like that episode of South Park where they set a record for saying a specific word a number of times...

as long as /ignore keeps working, I don't see much of a problem, actually.  if you are offended by something, ignore the person.  now I don't play MP really, but I know when someone is being a pain and pre-mute them.

Um. Since this particular forum has been merged with Joe User, and since usage of the unadulterated original term is not totally uncommon on JU, then if the original word isn't sufficient to get you banned then why should a G rated copy be?

If your point is that frak is a thinly veiled substitue for the original word and that it's somewhat hypocritical to find the use of one acceptable if the use of the other isn't then I would probably agree.

However, while I'm perfectly capable of using the original term myself (as a number of folks here can attest), the GalCiv2 forums, of which this forum is still a part, is not a context in which I would feel comfortable using the original word and I would tend to avoid the thinly veiled substitue as well. The one exception I would make is to use the "softened" term to refer to someone else's usage of the original term within a context that it really didn't belong such as a game site suitable for 13 year olds.

The word has little meaning without context. It is more the context that would concern us.

Felgercarb. 'Tis folly of the worst sort to presume you can protect your children from any sort of language if you let them leave the house or take mass media. The sooner one learns a few coarse words, the sooner one can decide whether to use them at all and if so, under what circumstances. One of the obvious early parameters is Not Around Parents, with possible exceptions like while learning to drive or when everyone in the family is adult and some serious fecal matter hits the oscillating air agitator.

On a related point, in regards to the short, vigorous synonym for copulation, an otherwise fairly ladylike friend of mine told me long ago, "If you can't say it, you can't do it."

To those who insist that using coarse language is a crutch for those who can't or won't learn to use "good" language well, I point to this amazing (not for kids with worried parents) bit of screenwriting.

I absolutely agree. It's the *under what circumstances* part that I'm talking about.

Certainly anyone that thinks even 2nd graders are unfamiliar with the term is deluded. I'm just saying that in most contexts I prefer to set an example of when *not* to use them. That's all.

Just for the sake of correcting this thread ;P . In the first episode this season the word was spray painted on the wall in a  corridor... it was spelled FRACK.

Short story: my son who is 5 and doesn't quite read yet and who was immeditely corrected for using such words, told my wife he head the "D" word somewhere, she naturally asked "whats the D word?" he said "holy shit".    Sorry just thought that was hilarious. (we just won't tell him that it was funny).

Felgercarb.

WOW i haven't heard that in years. And they said THAT on TV!? lol

Posting when you're drunk is not a good idea, usually.

And if you weren't... just pretend you were.
