False Victory?

I'm playing a single player game (I'm vasari, in systems of war, against three easy opponents), and I befriend two races and attack the third. I destroy about three of their planets, and then it says that they have lost. But, they still have at least 5 planets (I can't quite remember how many) left including their terran home planet. But, in the diplomacy screen, it says that they are dead. There are some colonizer ships at their planets, but they aren't trying to colonize the nearby unoccupied asteriods. This is odd, but it happens again. I become completely friends w/ TEC race (100% and all six options done), and then I attack the other race. By the way, there are still the planets owned by the original race that lost. I destroy about three of the new enemy's planets, and while I'm phase jumping to another one, the victory screen comes up. I click keep playing, figuring that the TEC race attacked their remaining planets. They hadn't. The enemy race still has about 4 planets left, that are full health and untouched. Next, like usual, the TEC race declares war on me. I destroy ALL of their planets, but no victory sceen comes up (that may be because it already came up, and can't come up twice). But in the diplomacy screen, it says they are alive. Also, I can put bounty on them. Their ships are still moving around, too. I search around for their remaining planet with about 15 scouts, but to no avail. Then, just for kicks, I go and attack the pirate base. There are hundreds and hundreds of ships there, more than usual. They are clumped up like pirate raids. I'm guessing that they are the pirate raids that were formed, and were supposed to attack the TEC race, but had nowhere to go. I'm assuming that these are all bugs. Does anyone else have these problems?

this is an interesting bug.  just how many Pirate ships wre there?  just a rough estimate.  its normal to have 200+ pirates at a base late game large map, but only to about 250 or so.

and you can keep playing after everyone else is dead.  this is a good way to get some achievements, like fully researched trees, colonize planets, and all artifacts (on some maps).  did you eliminate the surrendered forces?  that might be it.  and usually you can just colonize everything.  takes a while, but it works.

(wonder what happens if you make a fleet with a scout leading, and set the scout to auto-explore?)

there were about 150 kodiak (kodak?) cruisers (can't remember pirate name), 120 ish cutthroats, 90 ish garda flak frigates, and about 50ish pillagers. out of 1 TEC faction, 2 advent factions, and one vasari faction that i forgot to mention, i destroyed all but one advent faction that the bug applied to. but i don't get what you mean when you said "that might be it." also, you said that colonizing everything works, but to do what? (sorry, I like to ask a lot of questions) With a scout-led fleet, I assume everything would follow. (interesting thought)

The AI is capable of surrendering before they are defeated.  Presumably this is what happened in these cases.  It's quite possible because you set them to easy that you killed all their units on a quick attack and they just surrendered because they didn't have the money to build a new army to defend themselves.

And yes, if pirates "launch" against a target that cannot be reached or doesn't exist, they just sit around in the pirate base and build up.  On occasion they might also return home at a certain point if there's nothing left to attack in their target system.  I've seen a couple weird instances where pirates will build up huge amounts of units at their pirate base.

Also, if you choose the "keep playing" option, the victory screen won't pop up again.  You've already achieved victory and are now in a sandbox mode.

I have another question, if anyone else is willing to answer it: I was playing as the vasari against the advent, and several times, the abilities of my ships were "disabled by the enemy." I scanned over the special abilities of the advent ships, but couldn't find any that could disable squadron launch on starbases and carrier ships, and could disable colonize and create starbase on colony ships. What ship can do that?

Well, some grav wells disable abilities too...  but I think 'reverie' disables your abilities, as well as crippling the ship.

Reverie, as mentioned, disables special abilities.  So does detonate anti-matter (Radiance ability).  You also have the magnetic storm gravity well that disables all abilities, presumably making it the only type of gravity well you cannot build a starbase in.  Plasma storm gravity wells disable strike craft launch.

If your culture actually caused the enemy worlds to turn neutral, then yes it's possible.  However, this can take 15 minutes or so even with deliverance engines blasting away, and can be nearly impossible with regular broadcast stations.  I find it very unlikely this could have happened without him noticing.  Moreover, he'd have had to have been sitting on his hands for a long time with at least half a dozen broadcast centers positioned right next to the enemy's empire for this to occur.

Is reverie a ship or a capital ship ability?

And yes, the starbases and carrier ships were in a plasma storm, and the colony frigate was in a magnetic storm. Thanks guys!
