Impluse - 'verifying download' and nothing else while patching

Getting bored of this - 3rd attempt to patch from 1.05 to current. 1.05 patch was manually downloaded and installed from here.

Impulse is sitting there verify download and doing nothing else.

Any top tips outside of uninstalling impulse and throwing my Sins disk out of the window?

I'm XP patched current, all drivers up to date.

Disable your anti virus, and restart Impulse with admin rights. One of those two fixes it. ;)

You won't need to re-download the patch.

Also windows firewall and your router firewall can block updates, while letting you d/l stuff.  When I turned them off, np.  Turn them back on afterwards.

Not the firewall.  Windows one is disabled, other one I just opened up completely.

I'm sitting there with wireshark and no packets are being transmitted.  Do I need to kick it to make it do sommat again?

Well, the verifying step is done after it already downloads, so it's usually either AV scan of the files that freaks Impulse out, or it doesn't have permission from Windows to touch 'em (hence the admin).

touché Annatar, was a homebrew thing I have running on my system that stops the execution of scripts and a few other hribbly things that could happen like registry changes.

Gal Civ 1 and II updates weren't bothered by it thou. /shrug

Thanks for your help/

No problem, glad it's working :)

I had this same problem too. For anyone else with it, I ended up needing to completely unistall AVG (because it is a prissy little program that won't let you temporarily shut it down) in order to successfully verify the download

I just had this problem.  In my case, I fixed it by stopping the DL and then starting it again.  The whole DL restarted and it worked fine.  Go figure.
