Civilizing the Marza's Speech

How do I edit a capital ship's voice clips

The ONLY thing that I really want to change about the game is the "Let's kick some ___" voice clip on the Marza.  Is there an easy way to change it?  I would even use one of the other Marza audio clips if it could work.

Anyone ever see the old transformers movie (the cartoon version, not the live action)? There's a single, conspicuous swear word bellowed out about halfway through.

I've always wondered why can't developers make a teen AND mature versions of a game. Content-wise it shouldn't raise the cost that much, and in IC's case, the mature version could be only available through Impulse. Of course, regulating who get's what version might be problematic.

Around here in Finland, Manhunt 2 was banned (IIRC), but our The Witcher has boobs :)

Blame Canada!

Anyway, "oh my gosh" is perfectly suitable when you have seen a planet blown up and eaten by a giant thing!

I don't think your thinking about this realistically. Oh Oh. Know it all taking over.

(\B):vulcan:(\B) : Ok, Scientists have proven that expletives and cuss words are a nessessary part of our language, after long study of not only humans, but other animals (they found that, in their own way, other animals cuss to). Linguists have begun theorizing, using this new knowledge, that expletives serve as a sort of warning and venting system for our emotions, letting others know how we feel and also letting us vent off some steam in the prossess. While they have yet to determine a reason as to why we consider certain words "bad" and certain words "Ok", I personally believe it to be centered arround nothing more than ingrainging and the connection of that word to an expletive. For example, Shit as a word should have no negative conotations whatsoever, its just a sound. However, it is also amongst our most powerful expletives, both because it is a very easy and satisfyingly harsh sound to make, and because it's meaning in our language is much similar to many of the phrases we might use to describe the situations in which it would be used. I for one find that they are infact nessesary to release and represent intense emotions.

I have no problem with cussing used properly. Just cussing for the sake of using "bad words" is juvenile. The marza is using cussing in a proper fashion.

And also, don't deny it, If you just saw a planet explode, you would probably be using some far far FAR worse cuss words that just Shit.

Ok seriously people. Judging by the Sins Lore, the TEC have it pretty bad.  If your civilization and way of life was just mercilessly attacked on two fronts, would you take kindly to that?  I don't think so.

Thanks.

No, that's the Kol captain. The Marza captain says "Shut the **** up and keep shooting you *******."

ROFL!!!!! See that what I imagined!!!

My apologies, I was referring to movies when I said ratings, NOT ESRB ratings for games

Well so?;P   I would still like to hear what you think of the ESRB. Like I said Ive really never heard a Devs POV. If you get some free time between fixing Entrenchement, the 2nd expansion, and sleeping.

Well, really, all the races have it pretty bad when it comes down to it, but I see your point.

I wouldn't be surprised if, say, in a patch or some such, they added some alien (Thus incomprehensible) swears to the Vasari. It'd be entertaining, at any rate.

I think of it more in terms of whether or not it adds value. Pointless swearing, gore, sex, etc. wouldn't have added much value to our game, but would have limited our reach. I wanted to have bodies flying out of ships in the debris, for example, but at their tiny scale, the value added was minimal, so it wasn't worth taking the ESRB hit.

that would have been awesome, along with the other content.  but i would want to be able to disable it on the fly if possible.  give me some props here, i am developing my kiddo to be a well rounded gamer someday.  he watches us play MP and wants to join in.  so what does he do?  he grabs his legos and builds his own ships.  in a few years when Sins3 hits the shevles he will be ready pwn everyone.

Aderas, thanks for the location of the file.  I can take it from there I think.

Bodies flying out of the ships? No. Tell you Craig, you need to play more StarCraft. Now Medics and Marines in StarCraft make quite a mess when they get killed. As you would expect. But ships just blow up. One would expect that when a ship blows up the explosion is hot enough to vaporize the crew.

Ive been married and have a kid, while he is only 3. His mother has let him watch both Star Wars and Transformers both which display alot of violence and such. LOL, now he goes around saying he Darth Vadar and Optimus Prime, which I think awesome(cuz Im a nerd like that). But she calls me up and ask why he going around shooting everything and pretending to be shoot people. Geeeeee....I wonder why? The ratings have nothing to with bad parent choices. And I think thats the bottom line. You can make all the rating and restrictions you want but in the end if the parents dont control what their young kids or teens do and see, the ratings are just a pain in the ass for Devs and mature players.

Yet, I also think the ratings are a good idea as it allows parents who are not gamers to know what kind of mature content a game contains. Guess we cant have our cake and eat it too. Sigh.

Yo, sure ships would blow up....but it's not a nuclear bomb.  Everything wouldn't be dissintegrated.  Large chunks of the ship would break apart and probably crew would still be surviving behind emergency doors.  Bodies flying out would be realistic...but not overused.

I plan on fixing that for you in the latest version of the Volumetric mod. ;) Thank god for modders, eh. :p

And hey, why not have them fly out of the stricken ship when a particular critical hit occurs! Maybe with a subtle audio stream full of expletives simulating the inevitable aggravation one feels when being ripped out of a spaceship and subsequently flash-frozen.

How about this as a solution.

  1. Copy a TEC game voice clip that you like ("copy that tac com")
  2. Rename it 'CapitalShip_TechSiege_OnAttackIssueOrdered_0'
  3. Remove the offending voice clip
  4. Paste the new one in the sound folder

This may allow you to play MP if you like.  I end of doing this on 4X games.  I do not like the Marza or the "What Now Commander" which I think is carrier.  Sounds like I'm putting him out and all.  And look what happened to the "don't ask-don't tell" Hoshiko crusiers voice clips.  I think I will experiment with replacing with the "Roger Roger" droid response from the current Clone Wars cartoons.

I think the TEC voice clips are designed to be the way they are due to the fact that TEC is really stretched by the two front war and is scraping the bucket when it comes to ship crews.

It could be worse, I don't see how anyone can play Vasari.  2 minutes of menacing hissing (I get it, they are really bad lizards) and I'm back to TEC. I would think the Vasari would be the one's cursing, thay have got to be getting their tongues caught in the mouth slit in the little plastic masks they appear to be speaking out of.  Ever get your tongue stuck in one of those as a kid? It is sure to generate a few gds.

Actually, I believe that all of the crew would be vaporized due to the reactors going critical. Antimatter+Matter= BOOM!

Samurye.:ninja:

I think some of the crew in areas far from the reactor would be pushed outward by the parts of the ship between them and the reactor, then once they are out in the vacuum of space their blood boils as the dissovled gasses come out of solution and their eyes pop out of the skull and gaseous blood spurts out their mouths and noses and ears and their limbs get frozen solid and they shatter on the hull of a near by ship
