Show off your ship designs 2009

Show off your ship designs 2009

All the ship designs you can think of!

In 2007 i created 2 fleets after getting inspired by too many ship designers to list them all here) - one for the Terrans and one for the Altarians.

In 2008 i followed the Ship Design Thread again with great interest, but was not able to participate because of r/l.

Now a new year has started. I think it's time to start a new thread where this year you and i all can show the ship designs we created.

It doesn't matter if they were done with Dread Lords, Dark Avatar or even with Twilight of the Arnor. Just show what you think you like to show.

Sivar Class Spore Ship

Sivar Class Spore Ship

The KIS Inghorath was the class leader of the newest version of the Sivar Class spore ships in 2254. The vessel was deployed on the front lines of the Kilrathi War by the Kilrathi Empire in 2254, a short time after the Terran Confederation conquered the Vega Sector. Later, Kalralahr Gilkarg nar Kiranka of the Kilrathi Fleet took command of the Inghorath and led a massive fleet to attack Goddard, a human colony in the Epsilon Sector. The attack was a huge victory for the Empire, for all 250.000 colonists living on Goddard were killed within a few days, and no other life forms were spared.

Snakeir Class Fleet Carrier

Snakeir Class Fleet Carrier

The Snakeir Class fleet carriers in various forms served the Kilrathi Navy for a long period of time and were not replaced in front line service until the Battle of Earth. Later versions were slightly larger and were better armored and shielded. While the ships are based on the same design, the Snakeir Class carrier could be considered the standard Kilrathi fleet carrier and were produced in larger numbers than any other carrier class. The original Snakeir class warship served as the Kilrathi Navy's primary fleet carrier during the Twenty-Six Fifties. While the Kilrathi carrier is only around half the tonnage of Confederation fleet carriers, the Snakeir Class was able to carry around the same amount of fighters and bombers as the Confederation Bengal class fleet carrier.

Spikeri Class Corvette (Corvette Type 02)

Spikeri Class Corvette

As the Kilrathi War was nearing its end and the Imperial Space Forces were loosing the war, desperate measures were taken to turn the tides of the war. One of these late-war designs was the Spikeri Class corvette. It was faster, bigger and better armed and armored than its predecessor, the Kamekh Class corvette. But it came too late and in too little numbers to change the outcome of the war. It was armed with four dual mount anti-ship torpedo launchers, ten pylons under the wings for long-range missiles and three dual mount mass drivers in turrets on the wings and below the fuselage. Service entry of this outstanding vessel was in the year 2268.

Strakha Class Fighter Bomber (Fighter Bomber Type 01)

Strakha Class Fighter Bomber

Long before the confirmation of the existence of this fighter, there were rumors of its existence and several fighter pilots reported the existence but no camera footage existed to confirm the existence of the stealth fighter.  When not firing, the fighters are limited to staying under stealth for fifteen minutes at a time and cannot fire weapons while cloaked although the fighter can continue to operate shields. Besides stealth, these stealth fighters are notoriously underpowered, underarmed, and underprotected. It is only the stealth device and the ability to carry torpedoes that has made the first Strakhas dangerous. A common tactic is to fire missiles just as the fighter comes out of cloaking mode and hit the enemy by surprise. While reasonably maneuverable, the fighter is not as maneuverable as the Sartha light fighter or Drakhri medium fighter.

Targu Class Frigate

Targu Class Frigate

The Targu Class was a pre-Kilrathi War design, originating from the time of the Kilrathi Civil War, where clans were fighintg each other to gain the upper hand and control of the Kilrathi Empire. Like its Terran counterpart, the Poseidon Class frigate, the Targu frigates had their own fighter units. But unlike the Terran frigates they were heavier armed to the expense of less armor. Commonly the Targu frigates were operating in pairs or small groups to hunt down terran capships where they could find them. They were armed with 2 heavy neutron cannons, 2 anti-matter cannons in the wings, 1 triple heavy particle cannon, 4 dual launch tubes for anti-ship torpedoes and 5 heavy point defense lasers in dual mounts.

Thrahagir Class Survey Ship

Thrahagir Class Survey Ship

In the later stages of the Terran-Kilrathi War things were not going as planned for the Kilrathi. The warrior race had lost several strategic systems to the humans already, when Prince Trakhath demanded a new type of spaceship, which should be able to operate in two different roles: survey and reconnaissance. The answer to that demand came from the design bureaus of Ghoran - the Trahagir Class. This class was fast enough to do reconnaissance flights and had at the same time the required equipment on board for survey missions. It was completely unarmed and had the best engines the factories of the Kilrathi Empire could produce.

Tomorrow or in a few days - given that i find as much time as today - i will prepare two fleet packs and will upload the Terran and the Kilrathi fleet in separate archives.

If the library will be still down at that time then i will look somewhere else to upload the files.

I will let you know when it's uploaded and where you can download it then.

Thank you for the compliments on the Wing Commander ships.

I have to admit that i'm a bit proud of what i created. But don't ask me how many hours i needed for all of them - i didn't count them.

@ Midnightrunner, Ok, how many days did it take to make of them?   I could only guess that it more than 24 hours so not hours but days. You did awesome job, between you and Croc, Pub, you guys earn your keep and I could only image how you put all parts on to make those ship. It just reminds of a huge jig saw puzzle or even that Rubic Cube.

I do have one question for you, where did you take your screen shots?

The screenshots of the ships were taken in the ship builders preview window with background nebulas turned off with a freeware program called "Hoversnap" - each ship from 5 different view angles.

Then these screenshots were loaded into Photoshop; headline, tech data, leader pic, race logo & background info was added there.

The pictures you can see here were all done this way.

Here's my attempt at making a custom fleet.  It's posted in the mods area at http://galciv2guide.com/forum/index.php
