IGN: Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor is 2008 Expansion of the Year!!!

http://bestof.ign.com/2008/pc/19.html

Here is what IGN had to say about GalCiv II:TA:

One of the year's most contested categories, but in a crowded field Stardock's Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor earns the honors for being the standard for what expansion packs should aim to be. This expansion wasn't just more of the same, but rather an incredible overhaul of the existing game. Improvements and enhancements were made across the board, from the gameplay mechanics to the visuals. On top of that, an epic new campaign, incredible new units, and an improved AI made an already great turn-based strategy game even better.

Holy crap Sins got Best New IP 2008 reward, Most Innovative Design, PC Game of the Year, and Best Strategy game.

We are going to need a ton of beer.

Good stuff to be sure. It is a truly deserved award and the standard by which all future x-packs should be judged by in my not so humble opinion.

Ouch, that's gotta hurt the budget for future StarDock expansions. ^_^'

But yeah, the expansions for GalCivII are very very good and StarDock deserves the free advertisment those lists gives to them.

Hmmm... None of the game websites have changed yet. I guess everyone at SD and IC are drunk... :')

Both galciv and SINS mainpages have been updated.  Are you referring to the store pages?

If I were working at Stardock this day, I'd be passed out by now too.

Ummm... I dont see any awards on the main pages, just the news posts. For example the Sins is the same as last week. Anyway I think the awards should go above the "recent posts" section or on the side bar.

Look under latest news.  They have both IGN and Gamspy listed.  I agree though, they need an icon in the upper right corner.  Show off what you earned.  Hell list it in the impulse store too.

That is what I wrote - it is in the News area only not on the page proper.

Agreed, this should be front and center.

It's almost unfair to compare TA to other expansion packs, it's very nearly a sequel. :D Congrats to Stardock.

Bravo. This is an accolade that is long overdue. Thank you Stardock for all of the countless hours of hard work that you have spent honing this masterpiece. I have spent a fair amout of money over the years on games, and I consider what I have spent on yours perhaps my best investment. I have derived more enjoyment from the sweat of your collective brows than from any other company, and for this, I thank you.

As long as you continue to develop from the gamer's point of view, you will continue to have at least one loyal customer.

God speed.

That was my point about being the standard by which all future x-packs should be judged by.

I was just thinking this yesterday when all the threads to GOTY polls started popping up.  We could have an "Awards" section on each product page that only shows up if there are awards to display. GC2 and it's expansions would have quite a list.  :)  Now Sins too!

It might also be nice to show the game's Metacritic rating on each product page too, since some people make their buying decisions based on that.

I don't know how likely they would (or how soon they could) be implemented though.  Those guys are pretty busy.  I'll mention it to the guys that work in that part of the office, see what they think.

Hopefully it will get done soon. I would do it if I had access but I don’t so I can't help in this area. It would be nice to see a sidebar with all the awards listed one below the other for each game and on the x-pack pages just the awards for them. For Sins there is a lot of dead space under the man's foot and on the other side. I would try to use it.

There should also be links to favorable reviews. The primary reason that I purchased GalCiv in the first place was a review by someone who I trusted/respected.

Frankly, I am surprised that Stardock hasn't done more of this kind of thing. There is nothing unseemly about self-promotion, as long as it it honest and forthright.

The game websites seem to be of low importance once established outside of auto news updates. I do hope that will change however.

Kudos to Stardock for Galactiv Civilizations II.  I just got the Ultimate Bundle via Impulse last week.  I'm playing Dread lords now.  I'm enjoying everyminute of it.
