What do the in game sound bytes make you think when you hear them???

What do you think of when you hear a sound byte in game.

I always think of the tower from Lord of the Rings when an Overseer is built (this eye never closes).

And my fiancé hates me playing at night due to the "chirping" noise from the lobby (computer is in the bedroom until we move shortly....). She thinks it sounds like a frog or crickets (probably should pay a bit more attention when she is saying something like that...)

Of course, none of the sound bytes in Sins beats the ogre from Warcraft II

Two-headed Ogre

  • "We're ready, master."
    "I'm not ready."
  • "Huh?"
    "What?"
  • "What?"
    "Huh?"
  • "Yes?"
  • "Master?"
  • "Okay."
  • "Yes, master."
  • "Alright."
  • "Yes, master."
    "I don't want to!"
  • "All right."
    "No, I'm hungry."
  • "This way."
    "No, that way."
  • (burp)
    "He did it!"
    "No, he did it!"
  • (fart)
    (Both laugh)

Multiple sounds like this might be cool actually - different sounds bytes depending on how many times you click on the unit....

I'm of the complete opposite opinion.  I think the sound bite are horrid.  Whenever the the Advent Purge Frigate says, "Who must suffer!"  I think to myself, "I do, from terrible dialogue!"

The reason teh funny sound bites work in WarcraftII, and all of Blizzards games (that I can think of), is because tehy have a different feel to them.  Sins has a very dark and grim feel to it.  Very Industrial (realistic) looking ship models, dark textures and so forth.  Blizzard games feel much more "fluffy' or cartoony.  If they fluffed up the graphics in Sins (please, NO) and made things cartoonier it might work.  As it stands now I don't think the two styles marry well.

If anything I would take the opposite path, a-la Homeworld.  Make the ship dialogues more crips and professional / militaristic.

Side note:  I had an earlier post where I said that if I were the Emperor and Warmaster of an Interstellar Empire and a Frigate told me "GOOD ONE!" or "I'll consider it" they would spend the rest of their tour peeling potatoes in the galley and cleaning latrines throuought the fleet!

My 2 cents.

I agree with you snazzed.

though it varies from person to person. god i still love homeworld you just reminded me how awesome those little voices were made you feel like there were ppl not just ships dying

I hvae to agree with you there snazzed.  I don't hate the voices like you do but the voices and even the chatter during combat in Homeworld games was pretty special, really added to the immersiveness, would be nice to have a rip off in Sins.

I like the Advent sound bytes but the Vasari ones make me not want to play as them. Tec ones are ok.

I always picture 3 or 4 game developers in a crowded room talking into a synthesizer and cracking up between takes.  But in reality, they probably modify their recording, then replay it, THEN crack up.

I agree with snazzed. Some of the sounds, especially the Advent, really annoy me. But nothing bugs me more than the Akkan Battlecruiser when it says "Secure the passengers!" It's a freaking warship! Why does it have passengers? I don't care if it is the colonizer, colonize with soldiers or something. I find my self wanting to scuttle it every time it says that, just to make the passengers suffer. And like snazz said, I hate it when they say things like "I'll consider it" etc. I find my self responding "Oh, you'll consider doing it, huh? Well I'll consider scuttling you. What do you think of that? Ok, I'm done considering. You die now!"

But that's just what I think.

I crack up every time I hear the Cobalt Light Frigate say "What now?!".  I get the feeling that hes the only guy in the fleet that has some facination with Gangland memoribilia, and tries to keep it 'hood' where ever he goes.

"What now?!  Punk @*# mudda! You know who runn'in it! TEC-4-life!"
