Spore: does the space stage end, or keep going?

I bought Spore a few weeks ago and love it, but I have a question: I've reached Omnipotent status in the space phase, and the game hasn't ended.

So, my question is as as stated above: Is there a way to win the space stage, or does it continue ad infinitum?

After you reach the centre of the galaxy and then leave again, you have technically 'won'. The game, much like the Sims, does not end, though.

Yeah, it's location is fixed in every galaxy.

Earth is located at Angle: 225.06, Distance: 7,295.43 pc - you can get your current location by hovering the mouse cursor over the small spaceship in the progress bar at the bottom.

 

Another tidbit concerning the galaxy: The galaxy is the same for all your current games. That means you can visit the planet from another game you're playing.
