Population in Sins of a Solar Empire

I have always wondered what 204 or something stands for. Why can't they write 5 billion or something like that?

Also, requiring ships to have a certain population in order to be able to man it would be pretty cool. Different factions could also be able to use this to their advantage, with the humans having a high birth rate, the Vasari able to conquer "new slaves" by taking over enemy planets, and the Advent just being who they are, an elite group of individuals who don't need many to control a ship.

Just wondering, how important is population to the game(other than providing credits) and how could it possibly be improved to change the gaming experience for the better? Give some of your own opinions people.

Well we could have the amount of pop affect how much research costs or how long it takes to reasearch something. It could affect how fast ships are built. culture rates could be affected. I wished there were infrastuctures you could build on planets such as research academies or factories like in turn based strategies. Then pop could play a role in all that.

The infrastructure part is something I also think this game needs. Also, the research costs/speed could be implemented, as a developed planet would usually have a highly educated people(think about todays countries, with the "smartest" being the developed world such as W.Europe, N.America, Japan, S.Korea etc...). Think about the future, whole planets just dedicated to a certain area of specialty(be it agricultural, manufactured goods, war machines, etc...) but all of that they could probably include in the sequel or add-on to the game Sins of a Solar Empire. O:)

Invasion would be pretty cool since orbital bombardment looks a bit too cheap and not as fun as actually sending hundreds of thousands of soldiers to the field. They could probably implement this at first with just numbers(as in your numbers of tanks, numbers of troops, and the quality of your troops training could boost their chances, and "dice" is rolled to see who would win). About the planets, what if you could tap into the resources of the planet you're at?(or is that already possible?).
