v1.1 Beta forgets to include simple impovements?? (Edited)

Are there any plans to include much needed features such as :

   The ability to choose positions?
Where's the ability to host custom maps without requiring all users to have it?
   Fixed Resources?

Thank you Ironclad for all your hard work.

Much love and respect,

CommanderAdama

and, it's really hard to beta test when a stupid mistake like not having strike craft scuttle throws off the balance of the whole game.

Irony asplodes. Finding bugs is what beta testing is about.

Sigh, THE VERY PURPOSE OF THIS BETA WAS TO DEPLOY THE ALLOY ENGINE FOR MULTIPLAYER GAMES.(everything else was just icing)

1.1 has the other major improvements.

I'm sure your passion and support are greatly appreciated! Tone is important though, especially when people are trying to decide if you're being constructive or not.

Choosing starting locations and automatic custom map download are standard features of many RTS games and in time, I imagine we'll see the same in Sins, and if not, it's not the end of the world-it doesn't seem to have been designed from the ground up as a true MP, competition RTS (length of game alone is a problem, except on the smallest maps), and that's ok---most players (99%, for any game) don't participate in that scene, as has been pointed out time and again.

This is a massive patch and we can appreciate it for what it is, and for the fact it was released (roughly) when the team said it would be---I can remember far more modest patches from other companies that were months and months (and, yes, months) behind schedule (I'm thinking of you EA, I will never forgive you for BFME 1 & 2) and Stardock/Ironclad's diligence and reliability is to be commended IMHO. And, there's no sign of this being the last patch.

Re: balance, it all boils down to DPS, one way or another, though the connection is not always obvious. Even turning/rotation speed, rate of resource collection, and phase jump inhibition are DPS issues, right?

Report the bugs you find, and good hunting!

I sometimes get 'furstrated' with developers of my "favourite" game when they take 6 monthns to fix a 'simple' problem. But then, I just remeber the situation of Planetside. One of the best games ever created ruined by incompetence. I also keep my ranting to myself (literaly, I love to rant, its great fun just not very useful if you rant AT people).

This is a BETA, they warn you that it WILL HAVE BUGS. They tell you not to get it if you dont like bugs. There will be errors that they misses thats why they RELEASE BETAS TO THE PUBLIC.

The next major update for Sins of a Solar Empire is now available! Since this update is so huge and contains several brand new technologies, we are going to be offering it as an optional beta before its final release. If you are not comfortable with running potentially very buggy software (though we've tried to minimize it), do not install this beta - wait for the final release.

This beta is billed to go for about 1-2 months. Its barely even started Adama.

Ironclad have done a little balancing, but I bet they will focus on that more once we know their new Alloy protocol works and have ironed out any game-breaking bugs.

I am frustrated because it throws all my modding off now. I have to uninstall the game and put in back with 1.05 update in order to get mods, namely my 7 DEADLY SINS, to work again....

Personly I think the changes they said they would make have already been fixed by mods which also give you a bit more besides!

Ummm....balancing IS about removing and adding power to various units.

And I concur with the others, this is a beta -- bugs are to be expected.

As to your other comments, I agree, it would be nice to have maps distribute via the game launcher. Choosing positions sounds great! These are wish list items that should be asked for with a constructive voice rather than a flamethrower. I think that the Alloy upgrade will ultimately grow the community by allowing more people to host and play without problems. More of these people will want to try mods and custom maps, so it is win win for everybody.

As for mods, while it sucks and I certainly appreciate the work involved, there are threads directing people how to manage their files so they can rapidly bring their mods up to date.

Sounds like someone is unappreciative. And rude.

Even if you are convinced the things you say are true, realize that at least this isn't an EA game with zero support and zero meaningful patches.

Insulting the developers isn't going to help a thing and will make you look like a jerk.

I suggest more positive criticism.

You guys are morons? But that's OK because you put a cross though it right?

Not a good post. Not even an appropriate way to speak to another human being.

Ive been putting over in a very kind constructive voice about how map position choice and auto-transfer of maps will go a long way to helping the mp community.

Rather then flame , ive explained the benefits and the downfalls , using my expierence in the online community. I have 2x commanderadamas activity online lol :P. To no avail I get no reponse from Ironclad even tho theres a hugh support for this idea.

So im not suprised other players are trying a different tact to get a response. Tho what Ive gathered , Ironclad have little interest in this issue , or they do but it has very very low priority.

Oh and just to lots above. Call CommanderAdama rude or whatever , hes not really. He just lacks a bit of diplomatic tact in forums. Just a tip. Forum messages stick forever , so its as if what you say is what you feel all the time. Because people naturally get angry then they chill , always post when your not angry and have cooled down. I could post a thousand curses right after a minidump , but usually ill wait till im chilled out , then I probably be more diplomatic about complaining about the minidumps.

Jeez, it's a BETA. They explicitly stated that it will be buggy and not to install it if you don't want to play with bugs. Instead of flaming a committed team trying to balance an insanely complex RTS, you could make a post suggesting that they include map positioning and better map support. They could easily be working on those right now!

Did IQs just drop while I was away?

That would be something they should work on to include IN the beta , so people can start beta testing the feature. This suggestion was stated since the release version. Ironclad can atleast tell us that this feature is going to be included , or not included rather then let the community strangle itself with arguments just like in this thread.

I have to agree with the ts, automatic map dl is just a must in strategy games. when you look at the popular games, many of the most played maps are custom made (bgh, td or dota anyone?). I dont think I need to go any further.

I'd like to see custom map auto-downloading too, but by far the most important thing they needed to do was to fix it so that anyone could easily host; that problem is just a big cancer. Judging by how long it took them to produce the beta, I'd say they probably didn't have time to worry about a niche request like custom map auto-downloading (and believe me, as a galaxy forger and promoter of custom maps, I want it more than anyone).

Alloy isn't working for me but i digress- I can host with or without it, thanks to my knowledge of Routers. I just hate having to do a DMZ in order to host a game.

(And yes, I DO know how to portforward and have already tried)

I agree with you all pretty much. Though they should Open the game up more and let modders VOLUNTEER to do things for ICO. now there's an idea.

I think the problem is with some anti-vireus programs, I use norton 2008, and Norton masks and hides IP addresses to unauthorized sources.
