Space Rangers 2: Reboot?

Because all of the websites I've visited so far are pretty vague about what Reboot will add to SR2, I'd like to know if anyone has it and has played SR2 enough to be able to comment effectively on what the changes are. I love SR2 and plan on getting Reboot, but I would like to know exactly what it adds before I spend money on it. The descriptions I've read seem to describe SR2's features without specificially commenting on what Reboot adds. Obviously, it's cool that new maps and missions are added, but I was hoping for something more.

Sorry about the doublepost, I put it in the wrong forum area before.

I'm not sure whatever artard that posted those idiotic referrals understands that
The descriptions I've read seem to describe SR2's features without specificially commenting on what Reboot adds
.

That is, I've already googled it and every single site says the same thing. Why would you refer someone to a google search? How bloody stupid is that? Is it an implication that I am too stupid to google something BEFORE I post a request for information about it in an unrelated forum?

If anybody has real information about or experience with SR2:Reboot, I'd like to know. Not even Gamerankings has a section for it, and they have nearly every game made in the past decade on there.

I would consider buying it but the region restrictions of tng keep me from buying it even though i buyed the original game from it...

Seconded...

(I understand the reason behind it, just trying to build up a lobby for a publishing deal. :D )

Since some of you have tried to buy it whilst owning SR:2 surely you have some info about what is added to make it a worthwhile attempted purchase. I am in the same boat as the OP, owning SR:2 and left to wonder if reboot actually adds anything to it.

Well, having owned and played both SR2 and the expansion, I can give you some idea of what's been added to the game:

-5 new text quests of varying difficulties
-Multiple new RTS battle maps, some with huge-sized "boss" enemies
-The ability to play RTS battles and text quests outside of the main game!
-New unique ships for the true high-end player, available at certain stations
-New items and improvements for your ships
-Numerous quality-of-life improvements

So give it a whirl if you like, if you loved SR2, it's more stuff to play with! More chances to take out the Dominators, more ways to humiliate your foes, more of everything!

I mean the option to play text quests and RTS battles from the main menu is nice, but I've always considered those features secondary to the main aim of the game.
Can you give me an example of one of the
Numerous quality-of-life improvements
?

It seems like this is more of an add-on with new content than a truly substantial expansion...

Well, you DO have to realize that they were trying to make an expansion for a game that has been out for a few years already, so things may have changed rather dramatically. Additionally, I should point out that for the new items, weapons and ships, they needed to create a whole range of new assets, either 3d pre-rendered or 2d-drawn, and that can take quite a bit of time.

One big quality-of-life improvement I can name is a very big one, especially considering where the game is being sold - the expansion removes StarForce DRM on the original disc and allows you to play the game with no CD in the drive...so in a way, you could think of it as a completely legal no-CD and no-DRM crack with some new content added to boot.

That said, this expansion is by no means REQUIRED to get full enjoyment out of Space Rangers 2 - it's mostly designed, I think, to appeal to those who have already enjoyed the game for quite some time, rather than to add so much new stuff to try and draw new people in. Still, I do acknowledge that the fairly thin amount of new content in the expansion is, well, rather disappointing - you'd think they'd have spent more time coming up with new stuff. Then again, the developers behind the expansion aren't Stardock...

Are there any SR2 bug fixes folded into the expansion?

I acutally found SR2 to be completely bug-free. Except, of course, for some rather serious (and hilarious!) typos and translation gaffes, but I never had a single crash-to-desktop or issue of any kind.

this is galactic news speak - as they wrote in the manual

i had the evil starforce version - and even then the game never had a ctd !

The ability to play RTS battles and text quests outside of the main game!

thats already possible via some hotkey - useful if one wants to play his own maps
(map editor was released 2 years ago - if i remember right)

a much bigger galaxy would be nice
and a 2nd Campaign mode were the coalition doesnt exist and every race fights on their own

..hope they buffed the rockets...

would love to have an english feature list / changelog

"-5 new text quests of varying difficulties"

Pretty sure there's should have been a *lot* more than that. Translation job only half done?

"-New unique ships for the true high-end player, available at certain stations"

Which are not actually available because they cause automatic crash to desktop.

"-New items and improvements for your ships"

Which don't appear to exist. Anybody managed to find the 2 new engines/grippers/droids etc that are supposed to be in the game? Or any of the unique hulls *other* than the special "quest reward" type ones?

Don't get me wrong, I play the game enough that just the search function alone was worth the money in time saved! But I am feeling like we still have a rather cut down version compared to the Russians.
