resolution problem!

OK, so, i was using this laptop with my TV for the first time.  The game allowed me to use the 2000X____ resolution(i don't know what it is exatly).  I quit, like your supposed to, and started the game.  The mini screen appeared and i hit play.  it goes blank and i hear and see nothing.  i hit the windows button on the keyboard and quit.  i uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but that didn't work.  i think my tv deosn't like my resolution.  im not a computer wiz, so i may just be missing something.  i bought all the expansions from the download at stardock, and the other expansions work fine.  this is also my first time playing the game.  i don't get a messege.

It is highly unlikely that your TV supports any of the higher resolutions. The game just gives you the choice based on your graphics adapter, no matter the output.

Try to set the game resolution to the same resolution you configured for your desktop, if you directed that to the TV as well.

This. My fairly new, monitor-use-compliant plasma only officially supports 800x600 (although, I have gotten others to work.)

Another question: Did you "send" it to your TV? Many laptops - and desktops using a secondary screen) require you to hit something like Alt-F4 to get it up to the screen. Your monitor display might be black as well before you do this. In other cases, it is FN+some key on your keyboard. Look to see where you see a picture of a monitor on the key and go from there.

um... im not sure what you mean by send, but i made the tv my primary display. Then i started the game, and now i can't get the game to work on either. i,ve tried to change the tv's resolution, and the laptop's, but that didn't help.

You need to manually set the game resolution in the prefs.ini file of whichever version you are playing.

And to do that, you first need to know the exact resolution that you are running on the tv.

1920x1080 is the "1080p" resolution for HDTVs. It's very unlikely your TV supports a higher resolution, even if your video card does. Sorry, but there's no way around it. It's just a limitation of your TV.
