Right Click Attacking Stacks in the Empire Tree?

Hi All,

Does anybody know if selecting a bunch of units and right clicking a stack of 10 enemies in the empire tree will cue up orders to shoot down all ten units? Or will it just shoot down the one unit on the "top" of the stack then return to default operations?

My experience is the latter, which is really unfortunate and makes overriding the default attack behaviors a severe pain. But perhaps somebody knows a solution or work around for this.

I'm thinking specifically of a scenario which just occured to me where I had 8 wings of fighters, several flaks and some other stuff. The enemy had 15 LRMs and a hangar bay so 2 wings of fighters. My fighters engaged his fighters and they spun in circles in the corner. Now I understand that fighters want to cover for bombers, so default to shooting down enemy fighters. But in this situation I really really wanted my fighters to shoot down the LRMs as quickly as possible. I had flak, so I wasn't concerned about his fighters at all.

I had to go out of Stack mode, select my fighters and cue up each LRM individuall, then go back to stack mode. This was 15+ clicks, when I really should've been able to do it in 2.

Is there a way to make this happen?

No, it doesn't queue the entire stack. It used to with the old empire tree, but the functionality was lost somewhere along the way.

It was acknowledged by IC a long time ago that it *should* queue up attacks for the entire stack, but doesn't look like it's made the fix list yet.

Annatar, I think I remember that post. (back from when I was just lurking)

I don't know if it was an official acknowledgement as much as a "really, it should be working? I'll have to check on that." The fact that there's been 2 or 3 patches since then with no mention of it makes me wonder if it really is working as they intended it, we just have no idea how to use it ourselves.

It wouldn't be the first time a feature seemed broken or missing, but it was really just user error that was causing the problem.

(all though if documentation for that feature is poor, missing, or misleading, can it still be called user-error?)

But I wonder if there's some way to make this work, or just possibly just some other, better way to cue up attack orders in bulk. I find it very possible that there's some system in place that we either don't know about or are misusing... it wouldn't be the first time.

Clarification from the Devs would be absolutely lovely.

But I'm going to go back through the tutorials and the manual with a fine tooth comb and see what i can come up with.

Before they fix this, they need to fix empire tree stack selection: namely, that it should select the stack and subselect the top member of the stack, so we can tab+ability properly.

'Tis possible, but I tried pretty much everything and couldn't get it working :P

yah me too...

grumble grumble grumble, fix fix fix...

pleeeeaaaase. :)

It's unfortunate, because there are surprisingly few visible bugs that really affect the game. (stability issues are a different matter) There's this and the fact that occasionally ships will insist on returnign to the planet they were built at (not sure what the conditions are for this, but I know they're documented). Fix these two, and at least my experience (which is relatively free of stability issues) will be one of the most polished game experiences I've ever had.

I got someone to send a save of this to IC in another thread, and he said he got a reply back that they found it and fixed it for 1.1 :P I've yet to see it personally, though.

Well maybe our little empire tree bug will be fixed in 1.1 also? Here's to hoping.

It's not due for at least another month though, right?

No idea when it's due. Yarlen mentioned that more info will come in June.
