Why I have trouble playing starcraft.

Yes i have nothing better to do.

I love videogames. They are definately my biggest hobby. You could say that I am a very hardcore gamer. I have played WAY more FPS or RPG than I have RTS. The strange thing is that I would say I definately enjoy playing RTS more than shooters or role playing or whatever. The reason i have trouble playing games like starcraft and other fast paced games is because i feel like if i "die" or lose or whatever I feel like all the work I had frantically put into the game for the past 20 minutes is ruined. If you are playing an FPS and you die, it is no big deal. you fought for probably a dozen seconds and you lost. In an rts things are different. You had to plan out the base, formulate a strategy, not to mention the sort of APM you have to maintain. I feel like i am getting as much experience from 2 games of starcraft as i would from 4 hours of a shooter. it is such an exhausting experience. The reward i fell when i finally win though, is amazing. That is the reason i love SOASE so much. You can just kick back, relax and enjoy the show, all the while making complex strategic decisions.

Most of us know that feeling. That wonderful, estatic feeling you get when you look at the debris field around their planet. That fuzzy feeling you get when you blow up their level 10 capital ship in a giant explosion. Maybe other games as well, from seeing marines torn to pieces to watching a bunch of dwarves on fire and running around in a panic, we all love that feeling.

I haven't felt it yet in SoaSE, because I pretty much suck at the game. Still fun though.

I finally stopped playing RTS when I went 3 years undefeated in my group of friends. No one will play me anymore. I do love the genre though! It is quite a rush when your opponent falls for your cleverly devised trap and you realize you have finally outwitted him.
