why is my disk space full?

you see its a long story that forces me to ask this so i just wont tell you the story im trying to update my game with 1.04 but my game wont let me because my disk is full apparently i checked and it has 0 free GBs but i have nothing saved into the game zip nadda 0 everything is completely empty i havent even started a game but how do i download stuff if the disk is automatically full is there a way i can download more space onto the disk?

Are you talking about your hard disk being full? It sounds like that's what you mean, but I'm not really sure what you mean by this:

I think i may be able to clarify what he is trying to say as i had the same problem.

When trying to install the 1.04 update i received an error saying i have insufficiant hard drive space when the install reaches about 50%. Even though when trying to update i had about 5gb free.

I was able to update using the stardock update as opposed to using the downloaded patch.

Im talking about sins of a solar empire the stories not relevant to my problem and i shall elaborate more i tried to update it i clicked agree next next and then when the loading bar appeared it said i either do not have the space on the sins of a solar empire disk or im not allowed to use that directory *whatever that means* i know its not the second thing because i have full access to my computer *full administrator* so i checked the disk space and it said it has 0 free space even though i have absolutely nothing on the disk i got it like a day ago so why is my disk full if theres nothing on it is there a way to add more space?

Ah man, still confused :P

No worries - alright, there's a few possibilities but I still don't understand exactly what you mean. So more questions:

1) Which disk has 0 free space?
2) What is telling you that you have 0 free space?

Are you saying you added a new hard drive and it's showing 0 free space? If so, has the drive been formatted?

I think he's trying to update the game disk (cd). If that's the case, you can't update the game disk, you update your hard drive. The Sins of a Solar Empire CD doesn't have any space on it, plus you would need a cd burner to even touch the cd in the first place.

Did you try to move/install the patch to the location of the CD drive? That would explain everything. As others have said, you cannot do that, you have to install the patch into the folder where you installed Sins of a solar empire (usually something like C:/programs/StardockEntertainment/SinsofaSolarEmpire or similar). Meaning on your hard disk.

im talking about the sins of a solar empire disk i tried to update it but while the bar was loading this message came up saying that the disk space is full but theres nothing else on the disk a random message told it to me im trying to download it to the same place i downloaded sins of a solar empire but a message keeps coming up saying i dont have enough disk space nothing else happened thats exactly it theres nothing else i can tell you the hard drive was never mentioned the message was talking about the disk

oh and my computer hard drive has 3 free GB if im not mistaken GBs are big and can probably fit a little update

ok and i just redownloaded it after i download the update it appears as a shortcut on my desktop as Sins_Bonuspack_104_setup do i click it cause if i do thats when the problem occurs or do i do something else if so PLEASE TELL ME WHAT with word for word instructions

Yoadjla,

Just to let you know I wasn't being pissy for the sake of it ;) Bear in mind 'disk' is used to discribe both a DVD/CD and hard drive (hard disk/hard disk drive/HDD) so it was quite hard to understand what you were trying to install to where, especially when you mentioned there was 0 free space.

I also see that you call an 'install' a download, which threw more confusion into the mix.

So yeah, just thought I'd drop that in there. I wasn't trying to be awkward on purpose :) Turns out Dragon was right in his post above afterall.
