The Life of Jacquelyn Hamilton

Hey everyone, the creative juices are flowing again, and I'm back with my latest story/AAR.

Cerulean Sky
The Life of Jacquelyn Hamilton

Episode One: Cerulean Two

December 9th, 2225

"Do you know what I love about you?" she asked as she wrapped herself around him, and let her fingers slide through his thinning hair.

"No, please enlighten me." Henry responded as he gave her a light kiss on her parted lips.

"I love your complete confidence, your focus on an objective, never wavering, never letting any emotional or psychological barrier stop you. Your raw determination." as she kissed his lips, his neck, letting him caress her.

"Thank you my dear, and in a few weeks, I hope you love something else about me." Henry said as he pulled her closer.

"Your desire for power is exactly what drew me to you, but I love you already. But yes, I will love to see you finally get everything you've dreamed of, what you deserve, in a few weeks." and she looked at him longingly in the eyes.

"I couldn't do it without you, Laci. Everything is all set to go, all thanks to you." and he kissed her hard on the lips again.

"Yes...all thanks to me." and Laci and Henry fell back under the covers of his bed.

"Madam Vice President, does the Administration feel slighted by the Secretary of Defense for announcing his own candidacy for the Presidency even though President Ashton is only in his first term?"

"Madam Vice President, what about the crisis on Rhea? Does the administration plan on sending troops?"

"Madam Vice President, can you comment on the rumors that your husband was caught having an affair with your lead aide?"

"Madam Vice President, is it true that the colonists on Ceres Station have rebelled against Union control?"

"Madam Vice President....Madam Vice President...Madam....."

....Markus, my new lead aide, knocked soflty on my office door and poked his head in, "Madam Vice President? The President is here."

Rubbing my temples, I pushed away the latest stack of reports, newspapers, and other paperwork I had received that day. "Thank you Markus, please send him in." and with that the small but athletic frame of President Ashton entered my office. I stood. "Welcome, Mr. President."

'Thank you. Markus, can you close the door behind you and don't let anyone disturb us unless its very important."

"Of course, Mr. President. I'll be right outside if you need anything at all."

The President turned toward me. "By the gods Jackie, you look like hell."

I laughed. "Well if I only look like hell, than thats better than how I feel. Can I get you something George? I think I have some Hermian Cabernet, 2217, a very good year."

George Ashton took a seat on the dark leather couch across from my desk. "Yes, that would be lovely Jackie. Thank you."

So as I went to my private stock, reaching for the dinstinctive blue Hermian bottle "So what brings you here George? I doubt its just to drink all my good wine."

Ashton laughed but that quickly turned into a sigh. "I wish. Its been a bad week, I don't need to tell you that. Of course, probably a tad worse for you than me. Have you talked to Michael this week at all?"

The bottle slipped in my hand as he mentioned Michael's name. "No, not really. He's staying with his sister on the outskirts of the city. I think Amee is there too." I quickly took a swig from the bottle.

"Ah, I see. Well, we'll have to say something eventually. Its going to get out that he's not staying here at the manor. But we'll cross that bridge later." I handed George his glass and he took a sip. "Westings's announcement came at a bad time. Why couldn't he have resigned first? Talk about gunning for my job."

"I warned you George, about making him Secretary of Defense."

"And he warned me about picking you as my Vice President. Thankfully, Jackie, I didn't listen to him or I wouldn't be in office." Raising his glass he toasted me. "To you Jackie, the gods keep giving you grief and yet you keep on ticking."

As I finished another sip from my already nearly empty glass "So what are we going to do about the Rhean and Ceres Station conflicts?"

"Well, I was hoping I could convince you to go to Rhea and get the colonial leaders to sit down at the table."

"Of course, anything I can do to help." and with that President Ashton got up, gave me a big hug.

"You'll be alright, Jackie, you're a strong woman." as I smiled back, he opened the door and left me with my empty glass, which I refilled.

December 31st, 2225

"This is Cerulean Two to Rhean Space Command. We are on bearing 180.2 by 94.1 by 65, please confirm that this is the correct orbital lane."

"Captain, I'm not getting a response from RSC."

"Thank you, Lieutenant." Captain Morave hit the comm system again. "This is the Cerulean Union vessel 'Cerulean Two' on special envoy to Rhea contacting the Rhean Space Command. Please come in Command."

"Nothing sir."

"Alright. Go ahead and bring us to full stop. I don't want us going into blind to Rhea, its too volatile. I'll go back and ask the Vice President what she wants us to do."

"Yes sir."

...

"So you've recieved no response at all from Rhean Command, Captain?"

"No, I'm sorry, ma'am; all their channels are nothing but static."

"Hmmm, alright. I'll make contact with the Presi..." I stopped as I noticed the navigator rushing back toward us. "What's wrong Lieutenant?"

"I'm sorry to interrupt ma'am but well, I can't seem to raise anyone on the comm channels."

Over the intercom came a new voice to add to his. "Proximity Alert. Warning, proximity alert."

The captain and the lieutenant, exchanged a worried glance. "Excuse me, Madam Vice President, I need to return to the bridge."

"Go, Captain."

...

Captain Morave entered the bridge and immediately saw the frantic pace that his command crew was now under. "Report!"

From tactical, "We have three unidentified vessels on a direct approach with weapons powered up. They are not responding to hails. They are still well outside firing distance, about fifteen minutes sir."

From comm, "We have lost all contact with Command, Sir, but we are hearing radio traffic that there seems to be some massive attack under way."

The doors opened and Vice President Jacquelyn Hamilton strode out onto the bridge. After glancing back at her, Captain Morave turned back to tactical. "Raise shields, take evasive maneuvers and set a course back to Cerulean Prime."

From comm again, "Captain, we are receiving an automated message from Cerulea Prime. It states: Attack under way, all ships to retreat from sector. Cerulean Emergency Level One in effect. Inner colonies no longer safe. It repeats from there sir."

Vice President Hamilton spoke up. "Ensign, send the following back on that channel. Two, E as in eagle, Four, Seven, A as in apple, Three, Five, Dash, J as in June, H as in Home."

"Yes ma'am."

"We are receiving a message Madam Vice President."

"Go ahead, Ensign."

"Cerulean City destroyed. President dead. Articles to be followed. Planetary destruction imminent. As many civilian ships as possible launched once strike began."

Shock and gasps spread around the bridge.

"Captain, I want you to initiate an Inner System Jump to the orbit of Cerulean Prime."

"Ma'am, that's not..."

"It can be done right?"

"Yes, ma'am, but.."

"Then do it."

Morave gave a long look at Hamilton and then turned back away, "All hands, this is the Captain, prepare for Jump."

and time seemed to slow and everything seemed pulled...and then it snapped back into place

...

"Jump successful. We are in orbit of Cerulean Prime."

"Captain, we are reading over a thousand ships out there. All ours. We are also reading a fleet of unidentifieds on route from Rhea, about four hours out."

Jackie Hamilton turned to the captain, "Captain, send the following out please: This is Cerulean Two taking command of the fleet. Please bring ships within one kilometer of Cerulean Two, and prepare for Carry-Along Jump."

Captain Morave about stumbled at that. "Excuse me, ma'am, but exactly what are you planning on doing?"

"We, captain, are going to extend the Jump Bubble around the entire fleet and Jump out of here."

"Madam Vice President? We are receiving a Priority Message from the 'Victorious', its from Secretary Westings. We do have visual."

"On screen."

"Madam Vice President, good to see you alive. I hear you are planning for everyone to do a Carry-Along Jump?"

"Yes, Mr. Secretary, that is the plan."

Secretary Westings laughed. "Call me Henry."

"Well, Henry, as Secretary of Defense, why don't you help coordinate the ships into formation so we can pull this off."

"Yes ma'am." and with a smile the screen flicked off.

"Captain? Put all reserve tanks to powering the Jump Drive and have Navigation plot a course as far as the Jump drive will take us. We'll probably burn it out, but I don't want whoever this is coming after us."

"Yes ma'am."

...

"This is Captain Morave to all vessels. Prepare for Carry-Along Jump."

"Captain, the unidentified fleet is closing in, only ten minutes away. Also sir, I'm picking up massive seismic fluctuations from the planet. I think it could explode at any moment."

"Alright, start Jump Drive engines."

"Jump Drive engines initiated. Jump in five...four...three...two...one...Jump..."

Episode V: Nine Brothers

"Proximity Alert! Three unidentified vessels at 187.1 by 218,2 mark 43. The vessels are tiny, ranging from ten to fifteen meters in length. The designs do not match those we encountered in the Old Systems."

Commodore Cal Morave brought up his own display on his side console. "Remind me to tell Fleet Command that I really want some defenses on this ship next time we're in drydock. Comm, hail them."

"Yes, sir. Sending out standard greeting on all EM and subspace channels... They are responding, Commodore. I can put it on the main viewer."

"Proceed."

The forward viewer of the bridge normally was a panaranomic view of space, but then it was filled with a screen that appeared with a pale bluish toned female with two small horns protuding from her forehead.

"Greetings! I am Master Explorer Kaeri Ellfe of the Carinoid Scout Ship "Stardust". On behalf of our people and our leader, CaerAine, we are most pleased to meet you."

"I am Commodore Cal Morave of the Starship 'Cerulean One' on special envoy for President Jacquelyn Hamilton and the people of the Cerulean Union. Forgive me, Master Ellfe, if we are a bit wary, but our previous encounters with alien species didn't go so well. May we ask for some form of good faith, such as information about your people?

"Of course. We are sending an information docket now."

***

Cal Morave sat in his ready room facing the screen that currently was filled with the face of President Jacquelyn Hamilton.

"The Carinoids seem fairly peaceful. They are a matriarchial society, on par with our technological levels about 200 years ago. While they do have some basic spacefaring technology, I doubt, unless they are given the technology by someone, that they are any kind of threat as they can't really travel more than a few parsecs from their home system. Also, they gave us contact information with their main trading partner, a race called the Scottlingas, which is found about 8 parsecs away. Again, a fairly peaceful race, though a bit fanatical. The Carinoids have good relations with them but find them a bit aloof, but overall just ignore it. I guess they named themselves after a former leader, the Chief Engineer they called him, and also believed that the stars were actually the spirits of their dead ancestors, so their whole point of going out into space was to find the star/spirit that was that of the Chief Engineer."

"Thank you, Cal. Keep up the good work."

"Yes, thank you ma'am. Um, Madam President? We don't get a lot of news while we're out here. How is the colonization efforts going?"

"Actually, it is proceeding better than I thought. Of course, we did have to make one 'concession'. As you know the Cerians have been...troublesome...since we arrived in this area of space, past grudges and all that. It was actually Tristan's idea, but he met with Cerian and some other former minor colony leaders, and reached an agreement. We now have nine primary worlds, with New Ceres being the ninth, and having a reprsentative on the Executive Council. The last one, New Triton, just ratified its Unification Charter last week actually. Aren't you Tritonese, Commodore?"

"I was born on Triton, yes, but we moved to Ares when I was seven."

"I see, I see. Well, in honor that all of the primary worlds have been re-established, the Vice President and I are embarking on an interplanetary tour, with him visiting Ares, Ceres, Gaia, and Hera; and myself starting on Rhea and then ending with a grand celebration on Triton."

"Well, sounds like tons of fun, Madam President."

Jackie let out a big laugh and had a huge grin. "Oh of course, Cal, of course. I'll be in contact with you later. Take care."

"You too, Madam President. Cerulean One out." and the screen blinked off.

***

Lieutenant DeSoto, turned toward Executive Officer Tahmoh Penikett. "Sir, we are recieving a Priority One Message on a coded channel from New Cerulean, text only."

Captain Penikett turned from his data pad to the fore of the bridge and nodded at DeSoto. "Go ahead, Lieutenant."

Lt. DeSoto glanced quickly through the message...and let out a small gasp. "Sir...we need to get the Commodore up here right now."

***

Captain Penikett stood up and saluted Commodore Morave as he entered from the lift.

"Thank you, Captain. What's going on?"

"Sir...we just received a priority message from the President's Office...sir...the Vice President was found dead this morning...two gunshots wounds."

"By the gods! How is the President?"

"Sir...that's just it...the President is missing."

The CSV (Cerulean Starfleet Vessel) 'Cerulean One'; Ambassador-Class Medium Cruiser (formerly Amberlyn-Class Diplomatic Attache Vessel)

The Ambassador-Class starship is based upon the design on the "Cerulean One" after it underwent minor upgrades at the New Heran Fleet Yards. The CSV Cerulean One was the first ship to carry the new Amabassador-Class designation, though a CSV Ambassador was built as its namesake flagship.

The CSV-Cerulean One does carry some unique improvements due to its status as the Flagship of the Office of the President (as compared to the Flagship of the Fleet, which is a military vessel), in comparison to the standard Ambassador-Class.

The most notable are the Anomaly Survey Module; Stellar Folding Engines (the Jump Drive engines engineered for faster hyperdrive capability), and a Stellar Defender system which gives the ship a stronger defense when it is in Cerulean space. The CSV Cerulean One also has about twice the hull integrity (HP) of a normal Ambassador-Class ship.

The CSV-Cerulean One also carries a larger crew complement.

All Ambassador-Class ships are equipped with two forward phasor arrays and one aft array, and a forward photon torpedo launcher. They are plated with zero-point armor, two shield arrays, and an anti-missile defense system codenamed Aereon.

While the Ambassador-Class can hold its own in a fight, they are not used as combat vessels but almost exclusively for diplomatic and scientific missions.

The CSV-Cerulean One is currently commanded by Commodore Cal R. Morave. Originally carrying then Vice President Hamilton on a diplomatic mission to Rhea, it coordinated the Jump to this region of space, at which point it blew out its Jump engines. It was relaunched under orders of Defense Secretary Westings to explore this new region of space and report to him. President Hamilton modified its mission, declaring the ship the Special Envoy of the President, continuing its mission to explore the region of space they were found, but to instead report directly to the Office of the President.

I'm working on the chapter right now, but its a LONG one (three distinct acts, each one about the length of previous "episodes") so its taking some time.

in the meantime, I give you the Senior Officers of the CSV Cerulean One

please note that one Officer, named earlier, has undergone a slight name change.

if someone is really bright they may even gather where most (all but two) of the names are being derived from

Commodore Calvin "Cal" R. Morave- Commanding Officer of the CSV Cerulean One. Born on Triton but raised on Ares, Cal Morave originally planned to follow his father in running the family business of a large farming operation they owned. After a severe drought when he was in his teens, his family was forced to sell the land and Cal decided to enter the Union Starfleet in order to pay for schooling. He graduated 3rd out of 650 students in his class. During his first posting, he earned a Commendation for Bravery after leading a rescue of his commanding officer's away team that had come under attack by a group of pirates. He commanded the long range cruiser CSV Judicious before landing the command of the CSV Cerulean Two after a special recommendation by Vice Admiral Ardee Moore. His leadership and help during the Attacks on the Old Systems gave him command of the CSV Cerulean One and promotion to the rank of Commodore. His current assignment is as special dispatch of the Office of the President.

Captain Karl T. Penikett- First Officer aboard the CSV Cerulean One. Penikett is the youngest person to achieve the rank of Captain, being only of the age of 32. A Heran, Capt. Penikett has a very clear sense of right and wrong. He is very vocal about his disagreement and denouncement of underhanded or duplicitous actions. Before the Attack, he was the commanding officer on board the CSV Exuberant, a small defense cruiser, that was unable to make the Jump. He and his crew transferred aboard various Union vessels before their escape from the Dread Lords. He was one of seven candidates eventually selected by Captain Morave to replace his XO, who left the Fleet after suffering a severe injury after the Jump.

Commander James B. Griffith- Second Officer and Lead Tactical Officer. Star of his class, Commander Griffith was the lead pilot in the Hermian Run for all four of his Academy years, being the only Freshman to even win the race. He turned down offers for various navigational positions, including one where he would have been the lead test pilot for a new class of fighters to instead take the Tactical Officer graduate courses on board the battleship CSV Renegade. He earned several medals and commendations, including the prestigious Silver Star medal, and two Purple Hearts during various conflicts on Ceres. Griffith has turned down a command of his own three times previously.

Doctor Dan Rhodes (Commander)- Chief Medical Officer. Doctor Rhodes is the only field sanctioned officer aboard the Cerulean One, being that he was formerly a medic with the rank of Ensign, thirty years prior for Fleet Command before leaving to go into private practice. He joined the crew of Cerulean Two as part of Vice President Jacquelyn Hamilton's entourage. After the Attack, he took over the medical bay of Cerulean One and was given the Field Rank of Commander. Dr. Rhodes is especially noted for his knowledge and skill in neurological and spinal injury/surgery.

Legal Secretary Torie Sharma (Lt. Commander)- Chief Liaison for the Office of the President. Torie Sharma studied constitutional law on Cerulean Prime at the elite university, The Arch, before joining the Union Starfleet four years ago. She quickly rose through the ranks of the Judge Advocate General after trying and winning a number of cases derived from the Ceres conflict. She applied to be posted aboard the Cerulean One based on the recommendation of childhood friend, and Cerulean One crew mate, Operations Lt. Wesley Brown (second Operations officer).

Lieutenant Commander Gracie Lynn Park- Science Officer. Longtime friend and confidant of Cal Morave, Lt. Cmdr. Park has served along Morave on all but one of his postings. He tends to trust her insight and opinion more than any other single person. She received the Saturn Medallion for her work on Metaphysics and HyperJump Compatibility Theory. She lost her husband and three-year old son, Walker, in the Attack on Ares.

Lieutenant Alexander Julian- Operations Officer. Lt. Julian has had but one goal throughout most of his teen/adult life and that was to become an officer aboard a starship. Giving up a full ride athletic scholarship he instead chose to enter the Fleet Academy and doggedly pursued his goals. While he earned top marks in all of his courses, he often was marked down in leadership and team-oriented skills. Cerulean Two was his first posting, where he was given the rank of Ensign Junior Grade upon graduation. Lt. Commander Walter Prescott, former Operations Commander aboard the Cerulean Two, decided to mentor Julian and guided him into knowing and being able to lead all aspects of the Operations department. When Lt. Cmdr. Prescott left for a posting aboard another starship, he argued for, and eventually helped earn Julian a promotion to Lieutenant (j.g.). Julian became the Lead Operations Officer, and a full Lieutenant, after the Attack.

Lieutenant Tricia H. DeSoto- Conn (Navigation) Officer. Another veteran of the Hermian Run, though not as accomplished as Commander Griffith. DeSoto was unable to compete in her freshman and sophomore years at the Academy due to health concerns. She did manage to compete and achieve a second place finish her junior year, and a third place finish her senior year. Much later after her senior year race, it was learned that the 1st and 2nd place winners had illegally used spatial hyperjumpers to make their ships go faster. DeSoto was then given the first place medallion but is still listed as the third place winner. Often when the ship is on Third Shift, DeSoto handles both navigational and communication control from her console, thus explaining why she, and not Communications, is often seen notifying Command.

Ensign Kandace MacClure- Communications Officer. A recent Academy graduate, Ensign MacClure is a highly trained linguistic specialist, being to differentiate between all 160 various Union dialects and accents. She is also fluent in 6 historical colonial tongues, including Ancient Promethean which is only spoken by the secret priest caste of that world, of which only 3 survived the Attack.

Chief of Engineering (Lt. Commander) Douglas Aaron. A skilled technician and engineer, Chief Brown graduated with Honors from the Fleet Engineering School, did understudy work at the Heran Fleet Yards, where he also worked on the 'Nova Project', the lead-up design for the battlecruiser CSV Victorious. He was then promoted to Specialist Engineer of the CSV Venture, Second Engineer aboard the CSV Discovery, and later promoted and transferred as Chief Engineer on board Cerulean Two.

Episode VI: Discord

Part One of Three

"This is Machiko Yamamoto reporting from outside Ashton Manor in New Cerulean City where yesterday morning Vice President Tristan Larrin was found dead. Reports are still slow and sketchy but we are also being told by sources that President Jacquelyn Hamilton is also missing, but the news out of the Executive Council explicitly denies this, saying that she is currently being held safely in an undisclosed location.

From what we do know, yesterday morning at about 700hours local time, an assassin or assassins, entered Ashton Manor. There does not seem to be any signs of struggle, so the Union Bureau of Investigative Forces are taking a close look at individuals that would have close contact with the Vice President and/or knowledge of Ashton Manor.

Current Council Chairman, Felipe Castille, of New Hermes, has called an emergency meeting of the Council. Also, we know that currently Defense Secretary Henry Westings is fielding all calls to the Office of the President, and has issued a Code Two Alert, the second-highest, which puts all Fleet vessels on alert. The CSV-Victorious was launched from orbit early this morning to patrol the system.

I will report in as I get more information but for now, back to you Tom and Diana."

"Thank you, Machiko. In other news, a refinery on New Rhea was closed today due...."

"Commodore, you are receiving a private message from Fleet Admiral Moore."

Commodore Cal Morave looked up from the tactical station that he had been standing at for the last few minutes. "Thank you, Lieutenant. Forward it to my Ready Room." and with that, Morave began to walk off the bridge to his adjacent private office. "Commander Griffith, you have the Bridge."

***

Sitting down in his chair, Morave flipped open his monitor and entered his pass code. A moment later, the bearded face of Fleet Admiral Moore filled his screen.

"Hello Admiral, how can I be of service?"

The Admiral offered a small sigh. "As of yesterday morning, Fleet Intelligence was asked to take over the investigations of the assassination of the Vice President and the disappearance of President Hamilton."

"I see, sir. But may I ask why? Those are definitely not under the purview of the Fleet."

"Normally, you would be correct, but early forensics and scientific readings have detected the residual effects of a hyperspace Jump made in orbit of New Cerulean shortly after the assassination."

Cal Morave was speechless for a moment. "You're telling me Admiral, that someone has a starship capable of making a Jump still?"

"We are unsure of that fact as of yet, which is why I must order you to bring the "Cerulean One" to the New Heran Fleetyards for a complete diagnostic by Fleet Intelligence, since you are in command of the only ship known for sure to have a Jump Drive since the "Morning Song" was disassembled when it colonized New Ares."

"Sir, I can't believe that you are suggesting that this ship or its crew would have anything to do with such an act!"

"I would hope not Commodore, but I expect you and your crew to be in drydock by this time in two days, which if you make best speed within the hour to New Hera, you'll have no problem accomplishing."

Morave clenched his teeth and tightened his fists. "Very well sir, we'll proceed immediately."

"Very good. Fleet Command out." and Admiral Moore's image disappeared from the screen.

Commodore Morave took a slow look around his office before leaving to reenter the Bridge. Standing outside of his door he looked down at the floor before looking up to face his crew. "Lt. DeSoto, change course for the New Heran Fleetyards, best possible speed. It seems that we are now all under investigation."

By a strange twist of fate and luck, I just happened to come across a Thread Necromancer the other day, and he offered me to revive one thread.  Well of course, I knew exactly which one that I wanted-but not in the way y'all are thinking.   I am currently revising and rewriting the previous chapters which I hope to post in a NEW AAR thread in the next few days, and then I will continue with the story in the next few weeks.   I really liked this story and it has a lot of potential, so I hope that all my readers will come back to enjoy what I have in store for them.
