UK Release?

I signed up to these forums because i'm just confused about this game.

I downloaded the demo from Gamespot, and I absolutely love everything about it...except the 90 minute play time limit lol. Anyways, i've decided to buy it, except that I can't seem to find out how. This website only sells it in dollars, which means it's an American release - where is the UK release?

I've checked on other websites as well - Play.com, Amazon UK...and they don't even seem to know what Sins of a Solar Empire is! Nothing comes up when I search, so I can't even preorder it. So where do you buy the game from? Is it even released in the UK yet?  (:(

Thanks for your help. :D

There's no European publisher for the game, sadly. Stardock has been trying to secure a deal for a good chunk of '07 and even in '08, but they've always gotten turned down because the Euro publishers were afraid the German RTS market would not support a space strategy game.

That leaves you the option of ordering directly from Stardock, either a download only or a download + box option. You'll pay in USD, which means you'll get it for a steal, and Stardock orders are all CE's so you'll get some extra goodies along with it :P In the case of download-only, the CE goodies are digital (music mp3s instead of disk, pdfs instead of posters).

I am from the UK. I used the buy now link at the top of this page and got the box sent to me. I was able to download and play the game straight away and then the collectors edition arrived by post two weeks later.

My card that I used automaticly changed $ to £ and game cost ~£35 including the shipping.

Oh right, thats good news then! :D

I was actually more worried that it wouldn't be compatible with my computer, as it is an American release. If it works on your computer though, Xtanto, it should work on mine. I'll buy the boxed version.

I'm surprised there isn't any info about this in the FAQ or news though. Perhaps if an admin is reading this you might want to update the FAQ? Just a thought.

Thanks for your help guys, maybe you'll see me online soon. ;)

There's just one version of the game and it's playable around the world ;)

For a boxed version just be aware that shiping overseas is a bit pricier than local, and it might also get held up in UK customs (some folks have actually mentioned that they got an extra charge from customs - some weird EU regulations).

Figure it's worth a mention so you have all the details now instead of after :P

Yeah, I just got mine off the internet (UK here, too). As long as you just download it and don't get the package, its no extra fee for postage, though you'll probably have to leave your computer while it downloads for a few hours.
For the record, I got the boxy version. Its a good game ;) . My CD hasn;t come through yet, but I downloaded it when I bought it, so I'm already playing.

Hi all

I'm UK based and so far have bought three digital downloads of Sins, at just over £23.00 each. Used Paypal very straight forward.

One copy for me, and one each for my two sons...

Have Fun.

I got mine downloaded from here too and I'm from the UK.

As a general note - PC Games are not like film DVD's (and some console games) - US versions work fine. And as someone said earlier - with the conversion rate as it is just now it's the cheapest way to get games in the UK since most stores are still doing close to £1=$1 (rip off merchants).

If you're not too bothered about printed copies of manuals you don't even need to worry about postage costs.

Enjoy

Well I bought the boxed version coz I like the security and extras, and I downloaded the game through Stardock Central. I didn' like that program much as it wouldn't accept my serial code...until I realised I had to tell it the serial code was for Sins of a Solar Empire and not something else. *ahem*

Anyways, it took just over an hour to download, averaging at the 575-625kb/s mark. God I love fast servers. :CONGRAT:

According to paypal, the whole cost of Sins was £36.27. I'll let you know how much the extra charge is - if I have to pay it. I've got two of my friends interested in the game as well now, so they might be getting it soon too.

I've won my first game against the AI as well. Only one enemy and a small map, but it took 4 hours and 19 minutes. Big maps and more empires is gonna be fun... :SURPRISED:
