Credits lost to planetary under development

I must be missing something here.  when looking at the stats on closing a game this is always through the roof for me, however, I have every single planet upgraded, and always start the second I take it as a new colony.  1st is the population increase 1 and que in a couple others, then a populationagain when they are finished.

Is it simply the time it takes to upgrade the population and have it build vs the AI does immediatly?  Or am I missing something big?

Did a search and didn't find anything on this.

No, it's because you conquered the most planets. The AI is likely programmed to upgrade as soon as it conquers any new planet to the point where that planet is no longer losing credits.

Say the map has 4 players and 30 planets.
AI1 conquers 6 and upgrades immediately...
AI2 conquers 5 and upgrades immediately...
AI3 conquers 6 and upgrades immediately...
YOU conquer 8 to start, and then reconquer 17 of the AI's planets, making a total of 25, and upgrade each one immediately.

You're losing credits on four times as many planets any of the other players, so your line is four times higher on the graph.

You've got to watch out. On most of the planets (those that can actually support large pops, like Terran, Desert, and Ice) require at least 2 Pop Upgrades for you to break even. Also, even if your income through population puts you in the positive number, you are still generating negative figures for Under Development, even if you aren't losing money. So, remember this. When you capture a new planet, and you hit that Planet Upgrade, look at the underdevelopment line for the research info card. If that isn't 0, then you will still be generating underdevelopment fees after the first development finishes. You have to push the development until your development finishes off with 0 underdevelopment, then pursue other upgrades.

And yes, it does take time. Even while you are doing the development, you are still paying out money for underdevelopment until the work is done. So it's guarenteed that you will have underdevelopment figures. So, as theRetroboy said, because you end up with more planets, that's more sources of underdevelopment that you have to take care of. So, make sure, when you colonize, you immediately select the planet, open up planet development, and hit "q" (default for the top left selection) twice, and then worry about everything else. That way, you'll minimize underdevelopment costs in the shortest amount of time.

The amount of underdevolopment is for the total game time. So, it calculates the credits lost to underdevolopement per second that it took for any upgrades to remove that underdevolopment. Basically, if your planet has 2 credits underdevolpment, then it will keep losing that until you finish the upgrade. So there is still some time that you have that deduction, even if you upgrade immediately.

Overview: The stats are based on totals through game.

(Please correct me if i am wrong)

Yes, it is based on the totals compiled throughout the match. Since the graph is a constant increase (unlike, say, the Pirate bounty, which can rise and fall considerably, since bounties soar or get spent pretty quickly) you can see that it's a total cumulation.
