Peaceful music and MOO2

A possibly unreasonable suggestion.

Hi guys,

This post is mainly directed to (I don't want to say "at") the composer of music for SoaSE, and perhaps others who might have noticed this.

After having downloaded the demo, going through the tutorials, and playing the game, I noticed that some of the music for "peace", one track in particular, had a chord progression that was remarkably similar - identical, in fact, for at least the first six broken chords  - to a similar music track found back in MOO2.

Of course, it should be unreasonable to expect that a progression containing descending chromatics from the tonic to the dominant is copyrighted to its first user; I don't mean to attack or proclaim plagiarism, since composers copy stuff all the time :P I just want to know whether or not this music track was inspired/affected by MOO2 - I'm just interested :P

It's also possible, and likely, that this track was composed independently though - like I said, I'm just interested in how the composer came up with his music, which I happen to enjoy tremendously.

And on a side note, I might add that though I was confident I'd buy this game before, after downloading the demo I realized this is probably what I've been looking for for years.

Anyways, thanks for your attention guys!

Sib

In the year 457264 A.D. all music will sound the same anyway.

Hey Sibilantae,

Sorry to disappoint (or not) but I have never actually played MOO2; I tried MOO3 for a while but didn't much care for it; too much micromanagement. I've heard so much good about MOO2 while we've been making Sins that I've put it on the "check it out" list, but unless I was abducted by aliens one night and forced to listen to it, any resemblance is purely coincidental. As you say, this kind of progression (I suspect I know which one you're talking about) is hardly groundbreaking. I did put in a few referential motifs (Star Wars, Mars from The Planets, etc) in a couple of tracks but so far nobody has really noticed ;)

It's great to hear you're enjoying the music though!

Thank you very much for your feedback, sir :) It's by no means a disappointment.
I love computer game music, especially when (like in this case) it is clearly composed by someone who knows what music is.
Thanks again!

Mars from The Planets

I haven't heard that reference yet, but I'm sure that when I do I'll enjoy it immensely; how fitting that Holst references should be in this game :P
