Frogboy

Thanks for responding in many of these threads. Not many game developers/publishers take the time to do so, and those that do, often stop doing it after they get all the crap from people. It can be frustrating and burn you out because you will never please everyone. It should in some ways though show how much of a success the game is because people care so much about those changes.

Well, so this doesn't become a completely useless thread, like you said in another thread, I'll give a reasonable suggestion for the next patch. Cap ships. I was hoping that they would have gotten a boost in 1.03. I like thier price and thier power when you buy them. My only frustration is that they are such a force early game, a definate presence on the battlefield, but they quickly become less of an asset, and more of a micro nightmare late game. You guys put in this awesome feature of them being able to level up, and some neat abilities, but in late game they become less of a direct combat asset and more of an ability asset. My proposal is to leave them how they are currently when bought, but scale their hull and shield more as they level, as well as damage. I've played many games with battles on multiple fronts. I'd like to see the opponent worried when I bring in my lvl 7 cap ship. Take the Kol for instance, I really don't fear a lvl 7 Kol any more than a lvl 2 Kol when I have 30 frigates, a scattering of bombers and 10 heavy cruisers pounding on it. It just takes another 15 sec's or so to die. But in late game building a NEW cap ship should require some care in keeping it alive to reach that greater level and greater power.

Anways, thanks for listening.

your OP is a refreshing touch ...

in a forum where perpetually restless & power-hungry sharks are pa/troll/ing & pa/tron/izing ...

but why does the CEO of Stardock call himself « Frogboy » ?!?

i know all about « frogs » : im a French Canadian from Québec ...

oh, yea ... i almost forgot :

Merci beaucoup, Prince charmant ...  ;p

P.S. The Ironclad devs live in anglo Western Canada : here, in the francophone East, they are perceived as alien enemies ...

Thanks for all you do.

To the post, I agree. I wish cap ships damage/survivability would scale up a little better once the battles get huge. Too many times do my cap ships enter a battle along side my fleet of 50-70 frigates and cruisers against an enemy of equal strength to have us destroy each other's cap ships within the first 20 seconds unless we IMMEDIATELY retreat them. I too like the multiple front thing and most of the time cannot afford to have a cap ship in the fight, and I like the idea of having them mean a lot when they are in the fight. It should be a hard decision to make, sending your cap ship here or there, instead of thinking, "Eh, i'll just send more heavy cruisers." Although, a change in price/supply/research cost might be in order if cap ships are improved upon.

Yeah, basically what I was saying. Though I think that cap ships should stay at the point where they are now in cost, firepower ect, just make it so leveling them is actually worth something in mid to late game.

Je suis Canadien aussi!  :D  Although I am not from Quebec and that is pretty much the extent of my knowledge of the French language. I did take it all through grade and junior-highschool many years ago, but you know the saying "if you don't use it....you lose it!"

I have to agree, it was great comming onto this forum, and actually seeing them talk to us, and reply to some topics. For so many games (like HoMM5 for example), you'll just never know if they ever even read their mail/forums; it's like they sold the game, and now too bad about any changes or patches.

Oh, so we should also put a reasonable suggestion in to make this post less useless  ;) Ok, give LRMs a much slower turn rate (and make them more like artillery). Oh, and to make this thread even MORE unique, I have no ideas or suggestions on seige frigates  :SURPRISED:

All of the people involved in the creation of this game are awesome. Ironclad and Stardock have both gone above and beyond most people's expectations for what a developer and publisher each should be. Indeed, my expectations, which, having played Galactic Civilizations II, were very high even before I purchased this game, have been met.

Anyways, I try to make it my goal not to let my cap ships die. I would like to see them be more valuable, but I do keep in mind that frigates and cruisers are very large on their own. It makes sense that 30 of them would be able to take a capital ship, I suppose.

Perhaps different races could get different bonuses for their Cap ships as they level up? Each level the cap ship acquires would result in a cumulative 3% bonus or something: Advent would get bonuses to shields, Vasari to damage, TEC to anti-matter?

Ooo! ooo! Perhaps you could CHOOSE what you get to upgrade when you level up. Do you want more hull? shields? autocannon dmg? Maybe the all go up but you choose which goes up more.

That would be fun.
