Bringing Fighters/Bombers Back to Hanger

Is there any benefit to this?  Do ships move faster?  Do the fighters heal/repair?

It's a way to protect them in cases where the enemy has anti-fighter ships. You can deal with them, then release your strike craft at full strength to wreak havoc on what's left.

They do "build" while docked. You'll notice that in a squad, each craft builds individually. You never start with the full squad when you create a new one, it takes a while to build each fighter. While docked they still build, and as kryo said are protected from enemy flaks meanwhile ;)
