[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

[MOD] Sins Plus (by Uzii) v1.3a Final

A mod that adds, not alters.

Some of you may have noticed I haven't been around as much as usual, and it is with some regret that I won't be continuing this mod as a stand alone any more. I have many reasons, but it is mainly my short attention span which has brought this on. I have done my best to produce a top quality mod, and to help out as many people as humanly possible. I was here at the very dawn of modding this game, and I would like to think my input has helped progress slightly. I will check the forums occasionally and offer my help where I can. If you have a specific modding problem, give me a PM and I'll try and help you the best I can.

I will be working with DANMAN, who is producing a 'Super Mod' which includes Sins Plus, Bailknights Graphics, Sins Enhanced, and his own team's work. I will continue to give support for Sins Plus, and I will help out others where I can, but no further work will be done on this mod. Please check DANMAN's mod:

7 Deadly Sins
NO SCREENSHOT/LOG = NO RESPONSE
You can find how to get the Log at the bottom of this First Post. To upload a Screenshot, use Imageshack and copy the 'Direct Link To Image' address your are given, and paste it here. Take as many screenshots as you think is necessary, or of any little thing you might think will help. For those of you without common sense, this means if you aren't sure you put it in the right place, take screenshots of where you put it, with the address bar visible. If its a problem in-game, take the screenshot in-game, showing the problem.

For a Multiplayer version of Sins Plus merged with a BailKnights Graphical Mod, see Adama Repack

Ship Graveyard
Random ships will be in these areas, dead in space. They can be captured by the Colony Frigates of all the Races.

4 New Research Subjects

Improved Tunneling (Level 4)
Widespread tunneling with improved equipment increases the population on Barren and Urban planets, as well as Asteroids. (Barren, Urban, and Asteroid population max increase)
Level 1: 10%
Level 2: 20%

Crew Derelict Ship (Level 5)
Allows Colony Frigates to capture derelict vessels found in ship graveyards.

Gas Giant Colonisation (Level 6)
Allows colonisation of Gas Giants.

Improved Anti-Grav (Level 7)
Allows larger colony platforms above Gas Giants due to improved Anti-Grav technology.
(Gas Giant population max increase)
Level 1: 25%
Level 2: 50%

66 New Planetary Bonuses
If you think I am listing them, you are gravely mistaken. ;)

However, in order to enjoy the wider range of Bonuses, I recommend changing the value of the 'planetBonusDensity' on the map you plan to play on. This can be found on the 8th line down of all the .galaxy files by opening them with Notepad, or something similar. These can be found in your main Sins directory at:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\TotalGaming\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

or to find custom made maps at:
C:\Documents and Settings\**YOUR_USERNAME**\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Galaxy

The default value is 0.400000, this means that 40% of Planets will have a Bonus. By changing this to 70%
(0.700000) or more you should notice Bonuses becoming more frequent. Enjoy!

If anyone wants to design a planet texture for either a new planet, or an existing one, please do, and PM me a preview and a link to the file. You will be given full credit if I use it. I recommend copying one of the existing planet textures in the Textures folder, and editing that. Don't forget, the light(_cl) and dark(_da) side both need altering. Good luck.

How to Enable the Debug Logs
Go to where you Mods folder is, but don't open it. There will be other folders, most for Saves, but one for Screenshots, and another called Setting. Open that, then open the file inside named: user.SETTING (open with Notepad). Now search for the line: LogOutput FALSE, and change it to TRUE. When it crashes next, go back to the folder with Saves, Mods, Screenshots, etc, and there should be a new folder called Debug. The log will be in there.

it would be nice if we actually made money making someone else's game better.

I agree, both Uzii and you have done ALOT for this game! As far as I am concerned Stardock and Ironclad should buy your mods and use them for an expansion or update, as those mods have GREATLY enhanced my enjoyment of this game. At release the game wasnt all that spectacular in terms of depth but now its far better!

WoW this is sad.. Thanks for ruining the idea of mods and a mod community.. I mean come on you want people to pay for it? The point of the mod community is so people can advance and make the game better in there own way,

Just thought I'd pop in to say: kanechart, what? Did you even read the posts?

Who the hell said that we should be paid by the customers?

To everyone else, thanks for the comments and feedback, good to see it was appreciated by so many. I have a little 'extra content' for you all too. I made some custom loading screens for Sins Plus just before I retired, and I remembered them this morning, so here they are, README included, but it should be pretty straight forward anyway:

Rapidshare.com

FileFront.com

I will put these on the First Post later today.

Hi, it's a shame that this mod is no longer under development, as I am encountering a few small issues with it.

My first problem is that when playing as the TEC, the left-hand side of the loading screen is covered by some images that I think are from the research screen. I've made a screenie of it:

I've checked and it's definitely this mod that is causing the problem. I tried different mods and playing the game without mods, and this doesn't happen with any of them.

My second problem is that i'm randomly receiving minidumps. I sent my logs and minidumps to Stardock, and this was their response:

"It looks like two problems and both seem to be mod related. One is that there are some bad entities (probably not converted from 1.03 properly) and the other is a ship or something that doesn’t have a shield defined for it. Try playing without any mods to see if the problem goes away."

Now I know this mod doesn't change anything...but it's definitely the mod that is causing it because vanilla Sins is fine.

Thanks for your help.

Have you downloaded the 1.04 upgrade for this mod? I think there is a link to it in the first post. I used the 1.04 upgrade, and the mod works fine.

Have you combined this mod with any other?
Yeah, I have the 1.04 update. The minidump issue has only affected me since the 1.04 update, but the load screen issue has affected me since before the update - I knew there was an update coming, so assumed the problem would be fixed by that update. Since it didn't, I posted about my problem and here we are.

I have made my own manual changes to the mod such as reducing research times, but I haven't made any graphical changes etc. I've also tried Sins Plus without my mods and had no luck.

Thanks for your help.

The loading screen is a known bug, try d/l'ing the ones above you first post, I'm shocked that you missed them.

The other bugs are things I can't pinpoint because, IC and SD in their infinite wisdom have made it as hard as possible to locate bugs. The log, error reports and minidumps are all pretty useless. I've found a couple, and fixed, a few bugs that the log report picked up, but none were game crashing bugs.

This is one of the many reasons I'm not doing this any more, most are just my personal reasons, but lack of a useful error/bug locater was one of the game related reasons.

Best thing I can suggest, which I am also surprised you missed, is read the first post and check out the 7 Deadly Sins mod. As for the loading screen issue, try the links above.

I have a question, what programs can read and use either of the file formats(7z and whatever the other long format is)? I want to try out this fun looking mod, but I have no idea how to open them.

Look at the top of the thread. You will see a link.

DANMAN
The only link that I can see that might be what you're referring to DANMAN is the CUSTOM loading screens one - there is no mention of any links to fix known bugs. Is this the one you are referring to? :NOTSURE:

By the way, this problem is occuring with the 7 Deadly Sins mod for me as well. If there is a fix available, why isn't it included in 7 Deadly Sins as standard?
In the first post, there is a link saying, "If you want to use Sins Plus with Galaxy forge, click this link"

I just saw it. It's there. As to the 7 deadly Sins, there is another post, if the link here doesn't work, look for the 7 sins post in the mod forums. It is usually near the top.

As to the screens, There may be a fix, I don't know. It does not affect game play, so I haven't cared much.

Did you even READ my post!?

You tried the loading screens and it didn't fix it? Well, I didn't promise they would, I said just to try them. Obviously there is something once again fundamentally wrong with the game, as some people experience this bug, some do not. I and DANMAN are some of the people who do not have it. They are also now posted in the First Post with the rest of the links.

The only reason the loading screens wouldn't work correctly, that I can think of, is the fact that I changed the dimensions on the texture file, that was corrected in the above links.

Also, to Lurker, there is a link to the Galaxy Forge file that will enable S+ planets.

TO EVERYONE: READ THE FIRST POST BEFORE YOU POST. THERE IS NO NEED TO SEARCH THIS VAST THREAD, AS EVERY IMPORTANT LINK IS IN THE FIRST POST.
No, I haven't tried the loading screens. I didn't want to install anything else without your saying so in case it made the problem worse. And yes, I did read your first post - SEVERAL times. A tiny little note in the middle of a sentence isn't exactly the worlds biggest hint for noobs, is it? I only noticed it on the fourth read. :p

Sorry about getting your name wrong earlier, i've posted about this problem in two threads and got confused.
You should make other things like blackholes which destroy ships, stars with differnt sizes and color, and moons. That would be awesome.
Do you have to make a mod folder to install?

If you're sufficiently upgraded on Sins, you already have a mod folder, it's just hiding in this weird Documents and Settings folder, away from the main install. There are more specific mod installing guidelines somewhere (I'm at work so I can't find them, sorry).
