September 11 is a sucky birthday!

I was born on September 11, 1983. It was grandparents day. I used to be a little excited that my birthday was on a holiday, albeit a Hallmark holiday. Now my birthday marks another day. Tuesday, September 11, 2001 was my 18th birthday, I had just started my freshman year a Kent State University. I was 100 miles from home and lonely as hell but that night we were going out to celebrate. That was until the world stood still. I never really had a birthday that year. It didnt seem to matter much. Every year since then what is supposed to mark a day of celebration for me is now shadowed by that fateful day. My 21st birthday is this saturday. It has been three years now and I think that is a long enough time to go without a birthday. We have to move on sometime. We should all show some rememberance on that day but I feel that the media capitalizes on the tragedy as well as other companies...those who sell flags, pins and other psuedo patriotic items. That being said....I will celebrate the day of my birth and the lives of those who that day is the date of their death.

Until I read this article, I forgot 9/11 was coming up again. I'm sorry your birthday has overshadowed, and I suggest that you change your birthday to more neutral territory.

Like July 4th. Or December 25th.

Good point, how bout February 29th. What are the chances another national tragedy can occur on that day when it only technically comes around every four years.

Yeah, and how about Nov.6. The chances that a disaster would happen on a day that only comes around every 365 days... oh wait... lol that's every day:-p

I used to work with elementry school kids at an after school program. We had one little girl named Carmen whose birthday was also September 11th. I remember one of the hardest things I had to do was to be chipper and cheerful for her on hir birthday 3 years ago. I'm sorry that your birthday was overshadowed by a horrible event, but happy birth day anyway.
