I know, I know. I just posted, but this didn't fit with what else I was going to say.

I did an awful awful thing last night. I killed a possum with my car while driving home from buying groceries. It's never happened before. I've always tried to be very careful and respectful of the animals that live near the road, so in 6 years of driving I've never had a mishap, although a few close calls. I smooshed the poor thing with my little Geo. I feel so guilty.

Don't worry, I'm not going to need therapy or anything like that and I'm not dragging myself over the coals over it. I did try to avoid it, but the critter ran under my car so there was nothing I could do. However, F seems to think it's hysterical. I told him about it as soon as I got home and I don't think he's stopped laughing yet. Although, I am talking about the guy who grew up in a rural area and has actually used a truck to hunt deer with.

Suddenly, I think I now understand how the subtleties got lost on him.

I killed a possum once...

I hit it no more than 3hrs after I got a new bodykit fitted to my car. Some old lady had been nursing it back to health and had just released it back into the wild. It shot out of her hands, across the road and *BAM* straight into the front bar of my car. This pissed me off for two reasons 1) I hate possums 2) My new front custom bar was now cracked and pretty much fallen off, scraping along the road until I could pull over. Needless to say that I took it back to the body shop the next day and had them make it stronger.

The last I saw of the possum it was limping off on the side of the road into some bushes to die...

Why did I suddenly get a flash of the Six Million Dollar Man intro? "We made him stronger..." The Six Million Dollar Possum Squisher?

I'm just going to chalk the guilt up to the whole Witch thing. Possums are stinky creatures that carry rabies, but still. It didn't deserve to meet the asphalt under my tires at 40 MPH. I mean, talk about bad hair days!!

They may be stinky creatures who do or do not have rabies but they do share the world with us and have a right to live as we do.....so it's a damn shame you hit one....but you didn't mean it....it was an accident...accidents happen....kudos to you for caring....some people wouldn't.
