Where are the "Space Sharks"?

I am playing in a gigantic galaxy and have been playing this game for a while. Where are the space monsters that I've heard about? They haven't shown up and the Dregini are gone and the Yor are on their way out with the Arceans close behind. Just me, the Torians and the Altarians are the primary players. The other two do have an alliance and I'm trying to join it or get a tech victory.

So, where are the sharks? I actually want to get a look at them before wiping them out with Battle Hammers or build a Dreadnought.

What level are you playing at? They got 'caged' so they wouldn't show up on the lower levels.

They seem far less common than originally, and I miss the random events- they hardly happen at all in my games (Intelligent level). I miss that feeling of the unknown.

I believe I have everyone at Intelligence (Normal). It has been quite some time ago 'ere I set this game up.

theres an event for the monsters to show up, and they are very powerful lol
i don't really miss them on the lower levels all that much lol, took dreds to kill them and i lost a lot of friegthers lol, and i was usually under-powered to attack them in the first place lol

i know that they have ruined a few people's games in the past

As it is, I haven't played with them and was looking forward to it. Dreads, you say? Didn't know those things were that powerful. Perhaps the event is waiting for someone to build a couple of Dreadnoughts.

My game usually ends sometime around the time I have about fifty dreads flying around wiping up alien grins- no monsters, no "high" powered events ever- I can't figure out how to *extend* a game past Dread tech relaly without it being on a map larger than "large" which is, frankly, too large for my tastes. I have a *little* life to lead other than this.

I had three of them appear after an event tied to the "space monster zoo" that sometimes comes up in the United Planets. I had won the right to have the zoo on one of my planets. And after several turns I got a message saying there had been a power blackout at the zoo (ala Jurrasic Park LOL ), and that some space sharks had escaped.

And boy were they tuff, I never did kill any of them since the game was nearly over any way.

That would be weird, because I just finished a tiny universe on beginner level, and I can tell you the Sharks ALMOST wiped me out. And I had several random events during this two hour game.

Be cearful what you wish for BarryB, the sharks have many levels,I had one that took out two EXCALIBER'S

P.S. I never did kill them. ;)

I've also not seen any Space Sharks in the last couple of patches :( and I *love* (space)shark-fin soup LOL

Maybe a player-set parameter "Random Event Frequency = None/Low/Normal/High/Scary" would help those of us who hate/love random events.

One of the major things in the upcoming expansion pack will be a host of complex random events. Not the moral ones but the plot based ones. These require considerable work but I think it'll be worth it.

Now we only wish it would already be June! :CONGRAT:

Sorry, I don't miss the "sharks" or otherwise vial vermin - at any level. Pre-cursor "finds" are a lot more relavant and distributed among all civilizations. Some have spoken of GalCiv as a chess game. The introduction of extraordinarily capable "creatures" seems to cheapen the point of strategy vs tactical; just feels like something I would deal with in an XBOX or PS2 environment. IMO

Yes, it WILl be worth it Frogboy- I will LOVE those sorts of things added to the game. THANKS for them!

Freya- I wonder why I hardly see the events... maybe choosing lucky does that?

Dearmad, I played Universalist and they ger addional luck bonus, so that might me the case. On the other hand, meeting the Sharks, is that luck? ;)

hehe, well when I voted for it the first time I thought it was a good thing. Since they mention a money bonus, and only a "small" risk of danger. LOL

I did the same thing with the prison planet event. I thought "hey free production bonuses for 2 years, woohoo!". And then, 2 turns later, the prison riot occured and spawned 3 battle cruisers in the middle of my empire (which had just gotten to corvettes). Live and learn I guess. :D

" Haha, you "won" the "right" to host the zoo ? I don't think I'd call it that "

Even worse, the other empires decided I was perfect to host it. >:( :) :D LOL . Anyway, I lost a couple of ships but the combined attach force of me and my allies (YES, they helped me!) rather quickly smashed them into filet. :CONGRAT:

I play tiny and usually on lower difficulty. I get the stupid space monster all the time. I just try to lead to enemy territory.

I have never gotten a pre-cursor event. I have seen some of the other races get it but I never have and I have played 15 games.

The sharks were over hunted to meet the demand for shark-fin soup but I kept a couple of small ones because they looked so cute. I will release them into the wild once they grow up... Shark Hunter ;)

I think I played about 8 now, and I had two times the pre-cursor event myself. Mostly I include a luck bonus so perhaps you should try that in the next game.

Iv never gotten a precursor event in any of my games either. The AI does but I dont. Iv never gotten the Deragonal (sp) event either. As a matter of a fact I have been haveing an event dryspell recently

Gotcha, I will try to use luck bonus. It was getting frustrating when the AI would get a kickass ship on the first few turns and I am motoring around in a crappy starfighter.
