Weird Supernatural Abilities

We all have odd abilities that we don't know why we have them, but we do, with some being infinitely better than others. I have a minor psychic ability, though it isn't something to really brag about. Now I wasn't imbued with the power to predict future events, or the winning lottery numbers... no powers to improve my lot in life.

What stupid psychic ability did I get saddled with? 

Whenever I think about an episode of a show in syndication or movie that I liked, it is usually on within 3 days. Media-based precognition if you will. It has happened thousands and thousands of times to me, so it isn't like its been a few of isolated incidents. It happens 2-3 times a day... and I don't even watch that much TV to begin with.

And it triggers at weird times too. I mean, with that Bear story entry I made, the day after I posted it, they showed the very same episode of The Simpsons I mentioned in the entry. Or I'll think casually, "You know I haven't seen that episode of King of the Hill for a while," and it will be one for some reason. Or I will think of a line from a movie for a second, and on it comes. And the key word is casually, because if I really think about an episode or movie, well, then its never on. I think its Murphy's Law or causality or something, because that's about the only time it fails. 

It has also seemingly transferred in an more immediate fashion to Launch and other online radio stations too. I'll think about a song I really want to hear, and it plays next a lot of the time. There's somewhere in the neighbourhood of 50-100 thousand songs on Launch, so it seems to be a bit more than a coincidence.

I am a skeptic by nature, and I generally don't believe in paranormal phenomenon... but I swear, this is sort of freaky to me. I just don't get it, and its too weird to ignore.

My family and I all enjoyed a variation of this power when I was growing up and still do to a smaller degree. If we decided that we all liked a particular television show, and said something about it, its cancellation would be announced within a matter of a few weeks. Once we figured out what was happening, we tried not to say anything, but all we had to do was think it.

LadyCleve: I think that power has the name "Freaks and Geeks Disorder" but it was formerly known as "Police Squad Syndrome"

Ravenblack: That's one power I don't have... I've only had that feeling once or twice.... Actual Cancellations, well, they are a lot more numerous.

SPCNS: Those damn deer have been harrassing me all my life! Why those little..... :shakesfist:

I know what your talking about.......my partner has the same thing happen with him.....he'll go out and get videos and within a week it's playing on the TV or he'll happen to choose ...say 3 movies with the same (insignificant) actor in all of them....and lots of other similar coincidences.....if that's what you call them?! I usually know who's on the phone before I pick it up!

I wish I knew who was on the phone before I picked it up(even with caller id, it is only the number), because I get roped into a lot of stuff I don't want to do. At least I'm not alone with the whole media coincidence/psychic power thing... which is a relief.

I too have experienced what you have described. It's been happening since i was a kid. A few friends think its weird but i'm sort of used to it. I think mabye we are just tapping into the zietgiest of a nation that watches to much TV and only notice when we come across something we like?

Just felt the need to bump this up a little to see how many other people may have similar experiences. My Dad has a lot of unuexplained, uncanny coincidences too and after reading this I began speaking to others about the subject and found a lot of people to have similar experiences but mark it down to 'coincidence'.
Maybe it's something to do with radio waves in the ether that we are picking up or something......?

I just read an article to do with the power of prayer. Apparently, tests have revealed that if people say a prayer 3 times a day for a sick friend, relative or even someone they don't know, then there is more likelihood of this person getting better. Its a pity it doesn't happen in reverse because there sure are some arseholes out there I'd pray to get rid of...

I'm envious of the ability to cancel TV shows just by thinking of them. Again, there are certainly a few that would have felt my wrath in the past.

My theory is it is a subconscious thing... my subconscious must do some thinking on its own.... and putting pieces together for my conscious mind... it gathers information from the little bits and pieces I don't consciously notice, and when the time is right, it pops the image out.

Well, have you tried cursing them in their presence? They won't die, but you could make them very unhappy that way(when bad things start happening, if you did the curse right, they might believe it IS the curse that's causing it)

Mig, now that is a talent that before used to only reside on television and the movies.... I never thought I would see it running wild in the real world. Now are the results usually comical, or grave?
