FAQ: Availability in Europe and elsewhere

Galactic Civilizations should be at most retail outlets in North America on the 26th.

Strategy First, our publisher, is handling the distribution agreements in Europe, Australia, and elsewhere and we don't have precise information on availability there other than "as soon as possible".

Those users who can't wait for local availability can purchase it directly from us. We will ship the CD package anywhere in the world for $10 and you can download the game in the meantime. Shipping to Europe usually only takes 3 to 5 days based on our prior experience.

Unic: I checked strategy plus earlier today with no result. Surely £40 is far too high, isn't it? It isn't a PS2 game.

is the link to the actual page where it is... at the bottom.

And £40 is high... but if you want it cheaper, you can always buy direct from Stardock.

Oh, stardock I knew it. Your game is as dangerous as I thought!
There is a new legislation in place here in germany since 1st. of april regarding what is dangerous for kids.

Though Okaysoft.de moved GalCiv to their area of games which are only available for people above 18+ years.

You should explain it a little more, Arne.

The new law states that every game that is nor rated in germany (and all import games fall under that rule) are automatically rated 18+.

Another great example of stupid german laws regarding things the politicians have no clue of.

Hi Arno,

I agree it is stupid "german law". I believed it is important for Stardock / Strategy First to be aware of this kind of regulations in Germany because it can/will hurt their sales. It forces retailers / online shops not to even to avertise or sale the import version of the game.
I don´t know exactly what they have to do to no fall under this rules. It could be something as simple as putting an PG-6 year old rating on the box.

Well, you could advertise it, however, as there are strong restrictions on mail order regarding 18+ titles it wouldn't make much sense.

The only way for stardock to circumvent this is either find an european distributor (that gets the german rating for the game) or sell it online (download) to german customers (as they are already doing).

It's rather funny (on a pervert level) that you can buy "bloody" ego shooters that have a 16+ rating without problems but have to go through that much trouble to buy an US version of GalCiv (ok it deals with the oppression of innocent aliens, but what the hell... LOL ).

*must stop ranting... >:(

Why won't you release this game in Australia?

Some people love this game but never give their credit card number over the internet.

This game looks great but if you don't release out of America you will lose many customers (me for one) :(

>:( End Rant :)

Does anyone know about an Australian release? I asked at EB today in Perth and they said 'six months'.

WTF? I will have to go back to MOO3
I orderded directly from USA Juffowup. Don't expect to get it from Perth anytime soon. I've given up.

BTW, I called EB Perth last week and they said they didn't have it registered on their computer. If they now say that its "6 months", it means there has been a lot of people calling up and demanding the game.

Cheers

Strategic Plus is horribly expensive; they are trying to sell Space Empires IV for £40. I'd love to buy the game, really I would, but I refuse to pay the rough equivalent of $64 for it.

Of course, it's not one that's available for purchase via download >:(

I don't suppose there's anyone in the UK selling a second-hand copy? :)

I can't find it in the USA either. Best Buy, Media Play, Office Depot & Circuit City don't even have a listing of it in their computer system. There are a few
more places I can try but it should be out already....

I was wondering when drengin.net will ship out there copies of galciv.
I'm still waiting for the cd... (ordered couple of weeks ago)

how much would it cost to ship from US? (to Australia) I know that the game itself will be quite cheap (US$40, exchange rate is about 60/100 at present, so only $65 or so for the game). I'd go the direct download method but for my 56k connection. Someone was talking about gamesmarket.com.au recently. The lack of an Australian release sucks as there was a little flyer in the MOO3 box for galciv, saying 'available everywhere March 26'. I waited *so long* for MOO3, finally got it, and I don't even like it. It's boring. Galciv sounds more interesting. Six months!

Aussies lend me your ear...

GalCiv has shipped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For me at least. Just got notice from ebgames.com that the game has shipped and will take 3-5 days. I am hoping it will come sometime next week. Fingers crossed.

Juffowup, the games cost me $115Aus over at ebgames.com. The game was $40 which is about $68Aus plus $21US for shipping. I was going to go with stardock directly because shipping is cheaper but I decided to stay with ebgames.com because the shipping only takes 3-5 days while stardock will ship the game mid-april and may take 2 weeks for australia.

Fingers crossed that the game is as good as it claims to be :)

OK thanks TNTTony, good luck with getting it next week. $115 seems a bit steep but perhaps it is worth it; I think I will hold out for the moment and wait for a better offer :)

That's a good idea TNTTony. I have yet to finish a game and have no idea how to submit a game, or how you choose an empire. But if the Aussies were up there I would support them! :)

Is Brad & Co. planning on offering GalCiv in Asian markets? I'm sure the Japanese, Koreans and others would loooove this game, greatly boosting sales and further ensuring GalCiv support and other excellent games in the future...

Hi Gang

Just an update for all you Aussies on the board. Games Warehouse currently has Galciv listed for a 28 April release date. Whether that's fair dinkum or not I have no idea, but at least it gives us something to hope for. Fingers crossed! :CONGRAT:

So does that mean we won't see you on the board for a while? LOL

Well, after my failed Moo3 experience, the glowing GalCiv reviews, and most of all; the dedication of the developers, ive decided to buy GC no matter what cost.

As you can tell, im from ireland and the game doesnt seem to be selling here.

My question is; does the stardock purchase version contain the full packaged retail version of GC or will I be getting an infogrames style paper sleeve with a CD in the mail??

Cheers!

From my understanding, Irishfan, is this:

If you order directly from stardock you will receive the CD with the manual as pdf format on the acutal CD. The CD will comes in a DVD case. However, with this option you can also download the game while you wait for delivery (which will happen mid-april).

I'm from Australia and I ordered mine from EBgames.com which has a slightly higher delivery fee. However they have the box, plus the manual as a small booklet and the CD. Furthermore, I will get my game in the next 2-3 days. I chose ebgames for two reason:

1. I have a 56K modem.
2. I prefer a big business like ebgames.com when it comes to passing credit card information over the internet.
3. Delivery occurs as soon as credit card is authorised. All in all, I get the game sooner.

If you have broadband, then take the stardock option.

Hope that helps.

Well I'm still waiting, any date for the demo yet so I can convince myself for 105% ?

Another reason to order from EB: you get the box! I know it sounds silly but I like to have the physical package, even if it is mostly empty.
