Running Setup File To Install Problem

I have just got GC for christmas and put it in straight away to install it, but as soon as I click on install on the auto run screen it locks up and the cd drive with it in seems to start speeding up spinning the cd then slows and speeds up again then slows again and on and on. Ive also tried to install it from the run menu command prompt but the same thing happens.

Some on a thread I saw further down was told it might be a bink file well ive downloaded the rad tools but not sure what to do now can somone explain how to do it.
Please help im wanting to play my present (:(

My system specs are:

Windows ME
AMD Athlon(tm)XP 2400+
256.0MB Ram

You might want to make sure you have the lastest drievers for you video card. This has been a know problem in the past.

I had the same problem, and also with the game Hearts of Iron - I previously uninstalled both games to make space). I tried removing registry items (dangerous if you don't know what you are doing) and everything else I could think of. I wasted almost a whole day trying.

Finally I saw a message on the forum that said that if you have a serial number you can download Galciv (about 90 mb) from the Stardock site. I did that and it worked. I still don't know why the screen freezes up when I try to reinstall (I removed the game earlier). And I wuold like to know why game programmers can't make uninstall programs that don't prevent reinstalling the game later...

Go to the Stardock web site and register, or install or whaever you need to do to have stardock on your system, then go to games and register your game using the reg number that is on your CD case (it may be tough to find - it took me a while). The game should then appear on your stardock download list (it won't be there if you don't register the game as I have just said (only free games willinitially appear).

If you don't have a fast (cable) connection, it could take a long time to download, but with my cable modem, it came in at 300 Mb per second and took only five or ten minutes for the 90 Mbs, and the game works fine.

It said I would get version 1.2, but I can't figure out how to check which version I have.

Merry Christmas!

You should try to get Stardock Central. It will allow you to get all small patches. And the version number appears clearly with the game.
You may want to download the multimedia files.

I think that in the game, the version number is given at the top of the option screen (ESC key, where you can save, load , exit a game)

Well, I don't know who is responsible of the install program: Stardock or the distributor (Strategy first)
