tribute during war?

Is there any way to stop paying tribute to an empire while i am at war with that empire?

Example: I started giving 10 bc per month to the Altarians to keep peace (long enough for me to get Battleships). They ended up declaring war on me anyhow...when they did that, they ended their (trade) tribute to me...but i am still paying them 10 bc per month....i am helping them defeat me.....

I noticed the same thing and at first thought it was a mistake, but now I'm not sure. Otherwise, wouldn't it be a big exploit to entice an AI to sell you tech by promising to pay for a few hundred months, and then keeping the tech and welshing n your deal by declaring war?

in Alpha Centari, you could loan money to other players and them to you. If war was declared, the payments stopped... once the war was over, the payments then continued... perhaps that might work as an implementation.

To stop the exploit of getting massive amounts of tech for tribute, then declaring war until the enemy is gone, perhaps tribute being paid by the one that declares war still gets paid. Maybe the UFP demands it...
