Enemy colours too similar

I have trouble distinguishing Drengin from Yor on the minimap. Maybe it's because of my laptop screen, but it would be great if it was customizable.

It's kinda hard to come up with 37 unique colors (Terrans, five major races, and up to 31 minor/associate races).

This one in particular I find a bit odd, though. The Drengin are (or should be, rather) a blood red-ish color, and the Yor are a medium violet...

37 races at once? Blimey. I had about 8 in my game, and some of the reds were different shades, but still belonging to the Drengin Empire. I'd say three of the races were green.

Tough one to call then cos as you say 37 diff colours would be difficult to have or distinguish.

I agree about the mini-map color problems with the Yor and the Drengin. Maybe the Drengin could be made a little more pink-ish (wouldn't that piss them off )

Yeah, the colors get difficult, even on the main map. I don't know what they can do, if there are 37 races. Perhaps some could pulse?

Yes and I happen to be color-blind so it makes it difficult to tell on some of the displays what is going on. How about adding the ability to set the colors ourselves?

Yeah, my pet peeve is with sector ownership colors... they are way too dim and don't contrast with other empires at all...

It would be great to be able to set them ourselves.

As a semi-colorblind person (red/green) I can say it would *very much* improve my enjoyment of the game to be able to customize the race colors. Right now I look at the minimap and basically see "Terran," "Maybe Yor, maybe Drengin?", "maybe Acian, maybe Tecain?" etc. And don't get me started on trying to tell the difference on the mini-map between Terran and Alcian ships (:(

Purhaps all minor races the same color but with the first letter of their species stamped in the small dot on the mini map. I like many others only play the game after a days effort usually at the computer screen. So even for the not color blind it can be difficult but improved over the coming months. Purhaps diagonal lines vs waves as well as colors would make it much easier to distinguish.

I find it harder to distinguish between the fog of war and the general blackness of space? My main problem with race colours is remembering which one is which!

Mythor that is why i was suggesting grey scale type lines overlaying the races, its much easier to remember checker, 1:30-7:30 diagonal (imagine a clock face), 10:30-4:30 diagonal, Vertical, horizontal lines, checker diagonal, etc. Color blind or not you can see them.

I also find settling on a set of names for the species helps to associate them.

Blood-Monkies, Dweebs, Inbreads, Glub-Glubs, Mecha.

Yeah, I suppose that could make it a bit more difficult to tell apart.

My graphics card has gone where all go eventually. My computer manufacturer is, clearly, not going to supply another. So much for 'warranties'. That has put me out of computers for many weeks.
I was surprised to see that there is a real problem with distinguishing colours. I agree with the person who said that lines would help, or hatching or other distinguishiong representation. Of the people who are colour blind, red/green is the most common problem and yet those are, I would think, the most common colours used to distinguish races or whatever.

I like the idea of being able to pick your own colours.

I like the idea of being able to pick your own colours for the alien ships and the minimap, too.

Is the been able to pick own colours sorted out in the AP add-on.

Myself I would like to be another colour instead of blue all the time, plus it blends in with the background black space pic. :notsure:
