@Frogboy & the Fraser Brothers - A Radical Idea...

Something that could rock the gaming world to its core!

Earlier I was on Intrade.com , an information based predictions trading market for people who like to put their money where their mouth is literally, analyzing a $10K position on Obama to get the Democratic nomination and I had an idea.

I figured I could have made a killing investing in the notion that Sins would have made the 10 best selling titles in the US given the apparent widespread sediment that space games and 4x ones at that, are a very small none profitable niche market. But it was not possible because even though they have an Entertainment section, the only thing that ever gets listed in it is Oscar related crap.

So I had an epiphany of sorts, I figured if Frogboy and the Fraser brothers were to contact them as industry participants and ask them to establish a market for video games featuring oh I dont know.... "Sins" as the first title introduced in the market I think the press coverage, mainstream and otherwise, as well as related social exposure would be nothing short of phenomenal generating tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in free advertising so to speak.

As an added bonus it would also give SD/IC staffers a chance to really capitalize on their hard work to boot! Moreover argent community supporters like myself could also get involved - think about it...

It really makes sense if one actually believes the average aged gamer is in their early 30's and the vast majority of them have a college degree. Then when one considers the possible side effects of such a market especially with regards to all the bullshit stat tracking and review sites nearly all of which are compromised with what amounts to conflict of interest to some degree I think it would have a fundamental impact on the industry as to be the catalysis of a true paradigm shift in so many ways and all for the better I might add.

Thus with someone like Frogboy, the spiritual leader of the "games for gamers" and the founder of the "Just say No to DRM" movements leading the way in this brave new world with a shiny new flagship product and staunch ally in IC at his side, history could very well be made.

@mnik - Interesting site. I was not aware of it. Thanks for the link.

After doing some reading on the site I dont think it will have any meaningful impact in its current incarnation for what it is worth. Simply put it does not involve real risk. It is really an educational site and for all intense & purposes a glorified popularity poll. It also appears to be heavily focused on consoles.

I guess I should clarify, real money is at stake on Intrade.com. I will however educate myself more on SimExchange maybe I'm missing something.

I think that's a very interesting point Spartan.

Despite the success of both the Gal Civ and Sins series, I'm of the opinion proportionately few gamers actually know the names Stardock, Iron Clad and the products they stand for.

In this age of 'consolization' there are a great many gamers becoming frustrated with the current climate. Word of mouth can only get you so far (Hell! I've tried) so something like this could really present the publicity Frogboy and the Fraser Brothers need to say, 'Hey! There is an alternative. Lets build our community, and really start producing in-depth, meaningful games we can enjoy together.'

Personally, I used to think of Nintendo in the same way. Though in the course of the console 'wars', I'm sorry to say that some of their magic has been lost. This could be what we need to start a new 'golden age' all over again. Have at it!

Thanks. I think it is a neat idea and one that could get the eyes of people with interest in seeing change.

Knock off the bumping.

Sorry Kryo but I saw this had funny ads in it so I decided to contribute.

Hmmm.... I have only ever bumped this after I have seen Frogboy on-line and that has been about every other day. Sadly enough I keep missing him and the brothers have not been posting this week. I assume they are at GDC.

Normally I would not bump a thread. Moreover I deplore bumping on principle hence the twisted humor ads. After all they are better in my opinion then just seeing the word "bump". For the record I have only bumped this post since it was directed at Frogboy personally and as I stated only after I have seen him on-line. I guess I'll send a PM.

Anyway given most people bump threads several times in a single day I dont see how my bumping this every couple days for a specific reason would warrant a negative response Kryo.
