Number of research stations...

The numbers are gone, but instead the screen highlights based on how many labs you have available.. it's not as intuitive, but now that there are no "jumps" (techs for every lab) between labs needed, you get used to it pretty quick.

I miss the numbers too because you can still queue research up before the station is complete and its not as easy to tell how many more you need to build if you are building a few at once to tech up.

I also miss the numbers, it's nice to know exactly how many labs you have at a glance, rather than having to hover over an unlocked tech to see it's level (which doesn't work if you're building labs at the time).

I never played the game when it had numbers, but it would be nice if the techs that you couldn't research due to a lack of research centers were darker colored than the techs you can't research due to a lack of resources.

I'd also like to see two numbers available somewhere - possibly on the button at the top that takes you to the research screen. One number would be the number of civilian research centers and the other number would count the military research centers. That would be very helpful for me, since I have to keep going into the research screens to figure out which one to build next.

As you play the game more youll start to remember what research upgrades cost what and what they do. the litle pictures help you remember pretty well. From being in he beta I know what im going for and what i need b4 i get it.

Does having more civic stations increase the rate at which technologies are researched (once they are unlocked and selected), or is having extra civic stations just a waste?

Having more labs than the top tier requires only gives you insurance should some of them get destroyed. There's no other benefit.

I too would like to see the numbers. As I play, and colonize and build up new planets, and keep an eye on my fleets, I'm always forgetting how many of each I've built, and where I've built them...
