Simple Question - Capturing Asteroids And Building in Empty Space

I hope its simple

Just a quick question. How do you capture asteroids, and is there any way to build defenses around them? I want to fortify deep space ;.;

I am new to the game as well.

A TEC colony frigate can capture astroids in deep space by use of the "capture" command. It is similiar to the "colonize" comamand in that it requires sufficient antimatter for the command to be issued.

I assume the other two races have a ship similiar to the colony frigate.

I don't have the game, and this, I agree, would be cool. Deep Space 9!

kk, yeah. I figured that out. I figured there would be an engineer unit, but I'm new, and lack of an instruction manual hurts.

Still, I wonder how you build in deep space, or if you can.

You can't. If you can colonize the grav wells object, you can build there -- otherwise you can't. Its that way so you have at least a few "neutral" grav wells to fight over.

That'd be an idea for a mod. Just the ability to make little defense posts. Still, its a minor complaint at best.

I don't think it's even a complaint :P Just another "hey, maybe we could..."
Yes. Mod idea.

I don't see a capture command on my colony frigates. I tried just right clicking the astroid with the colony frigate and that didn't work either. Does the capture command have to be researched?

I'm pretty sure it varies by race. My Vasari scout has the ability but for TEC it is on colony frigates. Dunno about Advent, can't play them for very long with those voices.

There is a manual! It's called manual.pdf in your root install folder :)

Advent / TEC use colony ships, Vasari use scout ships.

Be aware that the income from the asteroids is minimal at best. You will lose money per tick unless you play it right. Also, the max log and tac is lower than a planet, so you can't have quite as many defenses as a planet and the colony health is like 1/3 of what a planet can be.

So it can be a harder choke point to maintain, despite this they can still be formidable when backed up with a small fleet.

That's not what the discussion is about :) This is about capturing mines in uncolonizable space (around gas giants, nebulae, etc), not colonizing asteroids :)

i just made a mine in a giant gas planet grav well with a colony ship...(TEC)..sent there, appear the build option , build it..and actually the pirats just avoid it (is in their route of attack) s is free crystal income (with no defense!!!!)

The neutral territory mines can't be destroyed, only captured :)
