What you like and don't about the release version

Wow, some cool stuff with the release version. Still playing through my first single player game as the Advent. Lots of changes.

Please post stuff that you like and things that you don't like. Please be specific - don't just say "Building ships sucks." Say what you don't like about ship building -is it the cost, the time it takes, the graphical effects, the sounds they make, etc. General "I don't like's" are not productive.

One thing I like is that you no longer start with a cap ship factory. This forces more choices. Do I spend the money on the factory, do I pout it into research or upgrades? Do I just spend the money on extra frigates? Good stuff.

One thing I don't like is that the problem where unbuilt structures can be destroyed is still there. You pay in full up front for a structure which appears in ghost form on the location where it is to be built. And then all it takes is a single shot from a BB gun to destroy it - to DESTROY a structure that hasn't been built and has no physical existence! This point and related consequences (such as plunking down defense platforms to impede the movement of enemy ships) have been discussed at length during the beta process. When I saw it happening in the release version I just about screamed :P I had to pause the game right there and then to come post this.

So nice and pollished. I love all the options. The fleet thing is cool to "f" key. Makes tracking your control groups that much eaiser Great UI and ACHIEVMENTS yay. Good stuff. 9.7/10

Oh, This should be a sticky.

btw, another thing I've noticed in this game as I play it, how the hell I know who's attacking who? All I get is "Allies are being attacked" kinda voice, it doesn't tell me if I am being attacked.

Are gravity wells from two planets supposed to overlap?

I came across an asteroid area and was very close to a planet. The planet's gravity well overlapped on to the asteroid one.

First I thought, ok, it's just one big well. But that wasn't the case. Even though both wells were on the same level I still had to make jumps to each one. In addition this made fleed co-ordinations and building structures very fiddly and difficult because it more often than not couldn't distinguish which gravity well I wanted to interact with.

Second; I'm rather bemused that ships just sit infront of each other and exchange shots at each other.

Have not been able to add a new ship to a group by pressing shift+(number).

I must agree with hiddenranbir, about the ships just sitting still when in battle. Even though there's more to this game than battles, I would still like to see some fluidity. I seem to remember a particular other SciFi RTS where smaller ships would orbit around their target. Just like the small fighters do, but with even larger ships. It does look a bit dull when they just sit still and exchange salvos.

Was that a random map? That shouldn't be happening.
