Warcraft III comparisons

Don't grab your pitchforks right away

I'm beginning to notice a large number of similarities between the was SOASE early game works and WC:FT III works. Firstly, you pick from a free hero unit at the start of the game, which is upgradeable and has upgradeable abilities, and starts out relatively tough but ends up incredibly strong. There is also the fact that expansions(planets are guarded by NPC creeps and are a very easy way to upgrade said hero. Now the rest of the game is not at all like WC:FT III, but this part just seems really similar.

Seriously......

But if there were no hero or creep type units SoaSE would be too much like WC2 ;)

It would be to be able to compare the titles but given we have no information of hands-on experience with the title it would all be speculation and that is not fun.

I forgot how the early game started in beta 4, it's actually quite different in the most recent version.

oh plz dont torture us, give us a hint in which way its different. :)

Maybe cap ships are not THAT important in the early game? (currently losing ur cap early means in most cases that the game is lost)

We also felt this was the case, and changed it quite a bit.

Losing your cap early should be a crippling blow. Im fine with reducing the damage an early cap loss will cause, but notsomuch...

I heard the fleet cap was o longer determined by planets, that changes alot right there as the need to expand is not so immidiate.

Groovy, that was probably one of my number one hopes for release! I was hoping they would somehow provide fleet cap points via orbital structures that are super weak and thus excellent targets for quick hit and run raids that could actually do some damage :D (which I think SINS lacks)

There still aren't space farms. :P

And so we must look elsewhere to discover how the pink space ponies breed :(

Alas, my dreams are crushed once again! :(

Oh well, hopefully the Gamma/retail version provides me with another means to effectively raid and harrassement my oponents... even if I don't get to see the pink space ponies being sucked into the vaccuum of space! (Or their breeding habits, if that's what you're into Annatar:O)

Thanks, I am! Very curious about those, y'know ;)

absolutely not.

in fact, to the contrary losing your first cap while doing serious damage to an enemy might be a good investment. so long as you dont lose it far too early, or against a fleet (unless in doing so you take out that fleet, or severly cripple it)

(preemptive) shut it eet, I'm not refering to the AI.

they have neither confirmed nor denied this, in fact they havent even commented.

god, rumors are so hard to kill!

A creep type phase can be fun, especially when you can ambush your enemy while he is creeping :)

Oh and I lose my first capital about 90% of the time heheehhe. I play it risky I guess :O But most of the time the distraction it provides benefits me in the long run as my enemy is chasing my capital around.

You're a bit behind the times here, buddy:

It shouldn't. Now that it's not tied directly to the number of planets you own you'll at least have a fighting chance most of the time.

While I realize a lot of people enjoy taking potshots at him, I would greatly appreciate it if you didn't use me as the instrument to do it. The game was between me and him, and if he hadn't dragged it out to the public I would've happily left if that way. I don't mean to single you out as there've been several mentions of it already since the big thread, this is just a general statement to everyone :P I try hard to not stay in spotlights that breed drama for long, and this is one of them. Thanks ;)

Cool, this is Warcraft 3 in Space! I could test the game today and it was very good. :CONGRAT:

But it would be nice to have a "Slower" setting for Game Speed.
I played Master of Orion 2 a very long time with my brother and we usually prefer round based games and it is just to "fast" (especially if you dont know all techs and ships at the beginning) to take a look at everything and plan your next steps a while ahead (for my brother). I heard that there may be a "faster" setting in a future patch so maybe you could even add a "slower" setting, too - for the old, not-so-fast and round based players. ;)

Lovely. Comparing Sins to Warcraft.

Next thing you know is that we'll have someone find some way to compare this game to Halo.

How can you not compare it if almost anything is the same?
But better copied well as poor self-made. ;p

It has "Heroes" with special abilities that level up. Mana is now Anti-Matter, it has the same (3) ressources, upgrades to units via the tech tree (you use special buildings in WC3)... after a few minutes I felt like I was in WC3..but now in Space - and I like space better. :)

Except you were limited to 3 heroes in WC3... out of 3 options, with no repeats.

it has the same (3) ressources

Credits and gold mines aren't very similar... timber doesn't equate very well to crystal or metal, seeing as how you don't have to deal with increasing resource distant. (On top of this, infinite resource model Vs. Finite!)

Oh, and War3 only had 2 resources, gold and lumber...

And in War3 abilities were micro based, whereas here they're spam based!

but there are more than 3 heroes, especially with the addon (there are many new neutral heroes like goblins, naga, pitlord...) ;)

It would be strange to gather lumber to build starships but many things are just like they are in WC3 - and that's good. :CONGRAT:

Of course there are similarities. every game created draws from games already done. It's called influences. Just like in music, art, film, and literature.
