The Olympian Gods

Beware Their Wrath

Welcome mortal to Mount Olympus, home of the gods. I, Zeus, have allowed you to journey here to prove your worth and to see if you shall be allowed to join us in the control of the universe.

If you manage to show that you are worthy by achieving 25 victorious battles or 100,000 cumulative points than we have decreed that we will bestow upon you the Glorious Title of Senator.

Let all those that are in our presence tremble and despair. We threw down the mighty Titans and will Prevail in All our Doings.

Some Important Things to Know About This Empire

One doesn't need to be one of the Olympian gods, any character is fine!

This is an Open empire, so anyone can join. I will try to keep up with who is joining so I can send a friendly hello.

Hard work and perseverance pay off. I will award those that accomplish such tasks with a Senator position.

I think it is important and my duty to help new players and learn from veteran players. I promise that this empire is here for the player!

A Little About Your Emperor

SILVERBEACHER (Main Character: Zeus)

Born and raised in Michigan, Silverbeacher, or Silver as he is commonly called, is a college student at Purdue University in Indiana where he is majoring in Political Science and Pre-Law.

He first came into contact with the Galactic Civilization Universe in the summer of 2003, with the first game in the series. He found the game very enjoyable but never did partake in the original Metaverse. A few years later he came across the sequel, Dread Lords, at a local Best Buy, and began trying out the new and improved game.

At first, he never visited the website or the Metaverse, but one day, while seeking answers, he hopped onto the GalCiv2 website and the rest as they say is history.

Almost immediately interested in the Metaverse, he began looking for an empire to join, originally checking out both the Galactic Diplomats and the High Command Hegemony. It was in the threads of the HCH that he came across Neilo and MarshallONeil. Neilo had only recently left the HCH-which had become a very quiet remnant of its former glory-and had formed the Tyranny of Evil.

In the summer of 2007, Silver joined the Tyranny-or ToE as it is often referred to as. Meanwhile, Neilo, had also been appointed the "leader" of a new way of competing against other MV players, the Metaverse League. Silver originally sat out of the MVL, fearing that he was not a good enough player to compete alongside such game greats as MottiKhan and Mumblefratz, but eventually did decide to join in the middle of the third round, where he even managed to get a speed bonus point for his team.

Due to the rapid growth of the MVL, a new team was needed for Round 4, and Silver gladly submitted his name to be the new captain of this team. With this, Team E-or more properly, The Eternal Villainy-, was founded.

Silver had captained the Villainy for three rounds when Commissioner, and fellow Villainy teammate, Neilo, decided to step down from his position as Commissioner of the MVL. At the request of Neilo and others, Silver accepted the nomination to be the new Commissioner of the MVL. After a close, but friendly, election, Silver was named the new "Commish" and Round 7 of the MVL was his first round under his 'leadership'.

It was also at this time that Silver decided to form his own empire, which he named the Olympian Gods. For a while, Silver remained a member of both the ToE and the Olympian Gods but eventually, decided that he wanted to focus all his attention on the MVL and Olympian Gods and so said goodbye to his Tyranny brothers to venture out on his own.

And that is how we say, is that.

I see that things are off to an excellent start for the Olympian Gods. Interesting idea Silverbeacher, and I'm curious to see if you will get deathly sick of a game before 1000 games completed! Good to have some more competition on the MV too. The Kzinti will be watching... ;)

On the topic of the soldier.

'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd ?
Not tho' the soldier knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do & die,
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

Extract from "Charge of the Light Brigade", Alfred Tennyson.

Oh btw, good luck to the Olympian Gods.

I don't have a free character at the moment, or at least none that I'm willing to move around yet. My Tyranny character has been a little bored lately, however, and decided to dress up as Athena for a cameo appearance.

Let the mortals fight among themselves.

she can be my Goddess of Wisdom and War any day

Completely off topic here but how do you crop so well around images Marshall? More of your Photoshop prowess at work? i'd love to be able to do that!! Pun intended!!! ;)
Well, please keep in mind that I am almost 100% self-taught with Photoshop.

The helmet and spear that I picked were both on relatively monochrome backgrounds, so for both of them I set the wand tool to a tolerance of about 50, anti-alias, and continuous area, and selected the area outside the object.

Then I used the polygon lasso to select several areas around the edges of the object, holding down shift to add to the outside selected area or alt to deselect parts I wanted to keep.

Then, with everything except the object that I wanted selected, I hit Ctrl+i to invert the selection and copied the object to a new window with transparent background.

There, I resized it until I got it to the right size for the Drew/Athena photo, then copied and pasted it into the final picture - a little rotation on that layer and it was done.

Now i'm all for protesting against war, in any form, but once the troops of your nation are there shedding their blood, you support them, weather you agree with their deployment or not, that is a moot point at that time, they are there...show them your support.

He did not. He condemned them. Therefore he is a traitor....Hades..you can have him! Please find the time to shove a pineapple in a rather awkward position.

What did he actually say, Neilo?

I have to admit that I'm having a bit of trouble understanding you here. Is any form of protest or debate treasonous once the troops are on the ground, or are you speaking only of actions/speeches that specifically target and disrespect troops?

I mean, there's a rather large difference between debating whether Canada should have troops in Afghanistan--a fairly common discussion here--and throwing vegetables at returning soldiers. Equating the former with the latter seems rather unfair; discussion and debate are a healthy thing for any society purporting to be a democracy, and it certainly implies no disrespect or "lack of support for the soldiers" to engage in it.

Anyway, if you could clarify what you mean here, I would really appreciate it.

Sure mate i'll do my best. First i should clarify that it is i who labeled him a traitor not any Govt body or the like. That is my opinion of him.

Bit of backstory first...There was a social movement here leading up to the invasion of Iraq condemning our possible involvement in the war. There were many protest, public debates and political debates both in the house and the senate.

Now debate is fine, protest is also fine. Now, one group who called themselves the NO WAR Party, led many of these protest marches and were backed by the church and had some corporate backing too. Up to the point troops were put into Iraq the NWP condemned the Govt for making the decision to go to war. Once we were involved the NWP switched to supporting the troops whilst still condemning the Govt, but now the protest were to bring the troops home and end our involvement. They set up a charity for Iraqi civilians and for the families of our dead soldiers.

All this is fine, they petitioned the Govt to bring the troops home, and protested the decision of sending them in the first place.

Heath ledger along with other protesters held a few protest marches condemning the war, the Govt and the Troops. He condemned the soldiers for taking part in an illegal war. He condemned them for attacking a defenseless population just so that the west may have it's oil.

Now that is wrong. No matter what the political reasons were for going into Iraq, oil is on top of the list obviously, you do not attack the troops doing what they are ordered to do. He did, and he did it publicly.

Protest against the Govt all you like, but once those troops are on the ground you give them your support, you do not tell them that you are ashamed to be an Australian due to their involvement. He said that, on T.V.

Now in my opinion, that makes him a traitor. He was never branded as such openly in the media, but he did get a lot of negative press and was booed at some premiere he attended in Sydney. He moved out of Australia not long after that. Take that to mean what you want. Personally i believe it to be the actions of a coward.

Now Ghost, debating whether troops are deployed is one thing, and yes a far cry from the abuse the Vietnam Vet's received. But he went beyond debate...the only difference is, he did not have any troops near him to throw vegetables at...

So i have since that day labeled him, IMO, a traitor and not that i would have wished his death or any harm to him at all....i do believe in a sense of kharma......

I have to admit that I'm having a bit of trouble understanding you here. Is any form of protest or debate treasonous once the troops are on the ground, or are you speaking only of actions/speeches that specifically target and disrespect troops?

I guess i just gave the long answer, short answer is, i am speaking of disrespectful protests/comments that target the troops specifically.

Sorry if that post has a bit of attitude in it mate, certainly not directed at you. It is Australia Day here and the patriotic juices are flowing...along with the booze! ;)

Many thanks to Neilo who helped set me up with my own private forum over for the Olympian Gods at the Tyranny of Evil. I know he is looking into fully expanding his site and I'm glad to be a part of that.

Here is the link to the site: WWW Link

I believe you have to just register there and then I can go in and add people to the admitted list for the Temple. Neilo or MottiKhan can clarify this for me later.

I'd like to request membership to Mount Olympus please.

Hmm, now which mythic god to choose from? Jupiter, perhaps?(hehe, kidding silver)
I'll probably think of one... later.

what about Hephaestus? The god of Fire and Smithery

doesn't have to be one of the Greek gods though, any character/name will do

Just go to Join Empire, I will get a notification and can accept you then
Reply #39 Top
Nah, I'll go with Prometheus.

Btw, Hephaestus was also considered... stupid.
well he was considered ugly, but he was quite crafty and skilled. He actually showed his intelligence by taking revenge on his mother by crafting her a golden throne that she couldn't leave, and by getting Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty, to be his wife.

But in any case, Prometheus is a good once, Bringer of Fire and Knowledge to Man...even if he did get punished badly for it
Reply #41 Top
Well, Prometheus was taken so I added "Bringer of Fire". A better suffix is more then welcome.
Welcome FB. Now just post 25 games or get a total combined score of 250,000 and you'll get a Senator position too :D

Welcome To Olympus, Prometheus! Don't worry we have no vultures here, you liver is safe!!!!

I know the God of the Underworld isn't the most popular guy around, but aren't I allowed into the Halls of Olympia? Who do I have to threaten with an eternity of having their eyeballs picked out by Crows to get access to the Olympian Gods forums?
Neilo and I are still working out some various kinks with the forums (mostly me knowing how they work), once we get that down we'll get people added correctly.
OK, I will hold off on sending my Undead Panty Raiders to your house to steal your underware.....For Now!!

Let the wine flow... and where's that maiden with the snake draped across her shoulder, and the leaf in her hair. Hmmmm?

congratulations Ferrel! Obviously, a day of celebration is upon us. Though I don't know if I really should be drinking wine before I head off to class....how about sparkling grape juice instead?

awesome, welcome to Ares (Piznit), let us all hope he doesn't call down Rosie clones and smite us all. :)

I am still working on stuff for the Olympus forums, so I haven't had Neilo open them up yet.
