Stardock,TotalGaming.net and Sins....

curious how many are members and other q's,

So ok, this post comes along for a few reason. I usually buy directly from a local retailer for my gaming goodness. However as time has progressed, it is no secret that PC gaming is going "online" for purchasing. I did pre-order sins from a retailer here, but I am thinking about going this totalgaming.net thing.

First because it has sins and the related company stardock whom in recent years have come out with some awsome strat games. Second it seems cheaper so that's a plus and third it looks to be the sure way of getting updates etc.

However I love manuals, physical media (never know when you can't get on the net) so having them is always a good thing. I do see you can have it shipped, but is there a way to get digital and shipping ? I did some searching , see one or the other. I wouldn't mind paying say an extra 20bucks for a box and cd/dvd/manual (code is what I would be given online I would assume). Is there any offerings like this? If so I would definitly join up, but I do like that option of (click here, pay 10-20.00 to have a dvd copy shipped to you).. or whatever options are there.

Thnx for the help,

Chaintm

oh add...

I forgot, also I am hearing of a CE for sins, but don't see anywhere that indicates such, from what I read from folks here it's a direct stardock thing , which is another reason for this intrest in the post above.

doh another thing ( I know questions after questions) I have some of stardock games, would this be added to the loader? Or can it be. thnx :)

If you order it direct from stardock online via SDC, you will get digital download; if you select the digital download + boxed copy version you get the boxed copy in the mail, and the digital download.

I don't know what the cut off was, but the general plan was that people who pre-ordered get the CE instead of the normal one, but I don't know if thats still open.

The only cost difference between download only and download + retail box when ordering direct is paying $5 NA / $10 Int'l for shipping.

Do bear in mind that if you use TGN tokens (to get beta 4 now), there isn't a box option on TGN. If you do want to get a box and still go that route, you'll need to contact [email protected] after release and enquire to that effect; there'll most likely be an additional media fee as well if you go that route on top of shipping.

thnx guys, Kryo, is there a link to the CE version? I can't seem to find it or is it as posted before, a if you pre-order now direct thing? Thnx again.

I'm not sure if we've cut off CE's or not. That's something Yarlen'll have to answer tomorrow. If not, any direct box orders will be filled with them.

so if we just got the direct download we dont get any ce stuff... whats even in the ce?

I laughed out loud at the topic title. You made it sound like they're a cult or something.

All direct orders for the retail box are the Collector's Editions until we announce otherwise. The CE contains the following extras:  Hotkey Card, Tech-Tree Poster, 2 Artwork Posters and a Sins Music CD.

Well, in a way, that is not far from the truth. It is a "cult of personality" regarding how to conduct business and deal with consumers. Food for thought...

So since I ordered (pre-ordered) my game via TotalGaming.net using tokens, does that mean I won't get a boxed version nor any of the CE goodies? And if not, how can I rectify this? Gotta have the boxed version... just gotta...  :)

You'll need to contact [email protected] immediately after release about getting a box. There will likely be an extra media fee in addition to shipping though, since you bought with tokens--the dramatic discount tokens bring is partly because you're only getting the download with no box option.

I have no problems with paying an additional media fee, I only purchased using tokens because the Dec 3rd cutoff for the beta had passed, and I wanted to download the beta. Of course, at the time, the only way to do so was to use tokens. Wasn't my optimal choice, but it allowed me to download and play the beta 4...

Ok, so today I did the link from the front page that says order digital+cd, thou in the order it showed only cd. I hope that a download will be avalible as well, (never know how long shipping will take) is this the case Yarlen? Order under [email protected] if you want to check that account, thnx.

Was going to buy those token things, but eh, for a 26 days of trying a beta build and having to go threw the frustrations of not getting a retail box version (Unless I notified someone after it was out) just seems a bit to much trouble for what it is worth. So I went with the retail digital+cd, cancelled my retail order here at my local gamestop.

Oh btw, as a database guru in RL myself, if you care to hear it I have a suggestion for ordering on your site. Sense most if not all items are digital download and some like me like to have the box/cd etc.. they should just have a simple (check this box) to have a box version sent. ofcourse it would also have the pricing by said box, eh simple script to data relationship. Just a thought, would make it allot more clear what allows for retail box and not.

Going threw the listing of games, when I went to Sins, it showed only one version to buy. While on your site here for sins there are 3 version. Allot of un-organized relationships within the site. Makes it a confusing place and as a customer, reluctent to order from said site. Need a coder or web guru? let me know, currently working on a e-com for a company here in chicago, but always can find time for things I am fan of ;)

Yes, you should get a serial in email once you're charged at release.

Actually Kryo, you get fully charged right away(as I checked my cc account just now), which is fine I prefer it that way, but thnx I assume I will get a code once it is release day.

Hi chaintm - thank you for the suggestions. ;)  Actually we're working on a new system now that we hope will be in place for Sins' release (or shortly thereafter). We purposely don't have CD options on TGN because it is a digital distribution store only.

Many banks/CCcos place a 24-48 hour hold at the time of the order to make sure you can afford it. It should be released after that time, with the actual charge not taking place until the game comes out.

ahh ok, sorry didn't know, thats fine, I rather have the charge out of the way, but that is ok the other way as well :)

Thnx Kryo, you have been very informative.

Missed your post Yar,

Cool, ya, the site needs some help , but if your going with an alt to that, that's a great idea. In the past few years here, you guys at stardock have really come out with some nice AAA titles. While I do have some of your other titles, they are (what I would consider) AA and more popular with a very unique crowed. However with Sin and CS2 you guys have really pushed yourselves to the AAA genre. It is great to see a company like yours succeed for you know what strategy really means :)

salu!
