Something made a nest/cocoon in my car door
another weird moment!

Yesterday my son made a discovery that I'm still amazed about! He showed me a nest of some sort that was on the inside of the door jamb of my car on the passenger side! I took a closer look and it looked really weird! It was a cocoon-nest type thing and I immediately got on the phone for my husband to meet us as soon as we parked at home, with the flashlight! [we were coming from my son's annual physical]
In the car I was speculating, with my son that maybe it was an alien species that chose us to be it's host or maybe it's a dinosaur-type thing that choose our car to hide in and it's about to be hatched! He said "Nooooooo, mom don't say that you're freaking me out!" LOL! I kept coming up with these wild ideas til he couldn't take it anymore!LOL!
My hubby was waiting for us as I parked and he took a look at the nest. He decided he was going to poke at it! I said are you sure you want to do that, shouldn't we call someone? He said no, he'll handle it! Men!haha! So he stood at an awkward distance while he poked at the nest with a piece of stick. Nothing came out of it, in fact, it crumbled! I was surprised and relieved at the same time! Then I asked him if he thinks whatever it is was in my car somewhere, waiting to get me?! I mean it could be there waiting somewhere under the engine or in the trunk or under the seats! But nothing after a search, thank heavens! I just don't remember being swarmed by anything as I drive or seeing any weird creature emerging from my car door recently!
The nest was paper like, white, with some pinkish looking color, there were holes, like cells, and some medium sized brown eggs in some of the cells! We have no clue what it was, where it came from or how it even got in there! I got that car (a Camry) through a friend of a friend a year ago so it may just have been there since that time and I never noticed it! That cocoon thing was a pretty large size! I didnt' get the chance to take a picture but which I had! My eager hubby was faster with his stick than I was with my cellphone!lol!
I went searching the web and found a couple of pictures that looked like it and it seems it may have been some insect type from the wasp or hornet family!

This picture is the inside shell of a hornet's nest.

This is a Wasp nest, the one in my car was similar in color to this and looked like paper too!

A hornet's nest! Now this looked more like what was in my car but it wasn't on such a large scale and the eggs were brown, not white! I got the pictures from this website: Link
