So, how far along is this game

So beta 4 is going atm, is the game playable, or has it still many bugs in it or has the AI never been adjusted yet.

Also, how many hours do you need to finish the biggest game?
How is the diplomacy in this game?

You should take a look at the gameplay videos here and decide for yourself: Multianna's games (fan) and Brad Wardell's game (Stardock)

My take is that the game is playable, and very enjoyable in multiplayer. The AI needs work, which it is getting. Depending on size and player skill, games typically take 1-5 hours. Diplomacy is rudimentary.

Diplomacy is rudimentary.

But a new diplomacy system is "in development".

or has the AI never been adjusted yet.

The AI is still very rudimentary -- the AI "boost" is also in development.
