Kzinti Empire - offical empire thread

You have dared to enter the lair of the most ferocious predators in the galaxy!

It is the ulitmate destiny of the Kzinti to conquer the other civilizations of the galaxy, subjugate and enslave any who may prove useful to us, and devour the rest. The Fanged God has ordained that this is how it will be.

In just 26 octals of days (7 months or so...Kzinti count in base 8), the Kzinti Empire rose from obscurity, to #1 on the Metaverse. With the blessings of the Fanged God, we have remained dominant for 100s more octals of days since that auspicious day.  We leapt past the other empires, and our mighty domain now encompasses over 32 million more light years than the second most powerful empire.  The most recent Galactic Map data shows that we have subjugated over 45% of the galaxy.  Many warriors from the old and dying empires have joined us, to avoid being eaten along with the rest.  We hunger to establish indefinite supremacy over all the inferior sentient species...

We have also been #1 on the AltMeta for over 3 years running. The Empire grows more powerful with each passing day as new conquests are won, and more warriors join us in our inevitable rise to rule the galaxy!

The Kzinti are a species of bipedal space-faring feline predators, who love nothing more than conquest and battle. Created by sci-fi writer Larry Niven, the Kzinti have had many stories written about them, most notably in the Man-Kzin Wars series of books. They have also shown up in the Star Trek universe, and a number of other realities.

"Kzinti flesh has a very strong and pungent taste. The weak among us are devoured by their litter-mates within a few moons of birthing. Only the swiftest and most ferocious of us survive to their first naming-day. Those not fit to survive will never live to perpetuate their inferior bloodlines. This is the natural law of the galaxy." - Kzinti Warrior

"The meaning of life is the hot blood of your prey on your tongue, the meat that rends beneath your teeth, the corpse of your enemy left in the sun for the carrion eaters to finish, your defeated foe groveling in submission before you. That is what life is. We are the Kzinti, and we stronger, swifter, wiser, and more ferocious than any other race ever was or will be." - Kzinti philosopher

Where did I go wrong??

So I'm playing a game with the custom Kzin race as one of my adversaries. Its on an immense map so even after 2 game years I haven't even seen their territory yet. I'm on blind exploration as well. Only reason I (humans) have contact with the Kzin is because one of their scouts found my flagship.

I get one diplomatic message after another from different races telling me how evil the Kzin are and that they are spreading.

I finally get a quarterly report stating that the Kzin are seeking peaceful expansion.

I FAILED!

I think the key lies in the immense galaxy size; it will just take the Kzin some more months (years?) to reach the other races with an invasion fleet.

Noctilucus probably has it right. Maybe they havent had the opportunity to start subjugating other empires yet.

I've been away visiting parents for Mother's Day for the past couple days, but I'm back now...I see the Kzinti mod isnt approved for download quite yet. This is probably a very silly question AF_Ronin, but did you remember to up their aggression when when adjusting their personality?

I havent even played gigantic, because my system would stall-out (at least on all-abundant), so I dont have experience with the two largest map-types.

Awww, thanx KzintiPatriarch. I got your karma

Believe me. I couldn't make them any more aggressive. I'm willing to believe in Noctilucus' theory. Invasion fleets aren't practical yet.

Its just difficult to grasp Kzin and peace at the same time.

Since the Kzinti is the largest empire...I'll put my thoughts here.

As some may know, after a comment from DethAdder, I went through and did some searching in the XML files on the MCC (Mind Control Center), and basically "discovered" what the issue was (it is missing a command line). Anyhow, in the thread that I had made to the Devs about that (which Frogboy has responded that they will be out a patch after the Political Machine is complete), Ghostwes said that "well, looks like everyone will be switching from Evil to Neutral"

Yes, a lot of players, especially "veterans", have been particularly fond of the Evil Alignment for the MCC and its 100% economic boost. And really, let's be honest with ourselves, we all knew it was wrong, and completely unbalanced, but hey, it was in the game, so we went with it.

I think w/o the econ boost (which shouldn't have been there), it makes for a much more varied, and in my opinion, better game.

You can still pick Evil if you are the Warmonger, with its No Mercy Invasion Center and the Artificial Slave Center, very strong wonders in and of themselves.

If you go Netural, you get your morale boost and instant terraforming.

But I will make the case that people underrate the ethical choice of Good. You just have to know how to use it. Good Races get an unseen diplomatic boost when dealing with other Good Races. And Good races get some very strong Defense bonuses (IIRC, up to 40% between techs and wonders). Not so much in TA anymore (cuz no one has defense bonuses) but in DA in particular, you could make a very powerful Good Krynn force, that could spread its Zealotry across the Universe.

So the game is more balanced now. Admittedly, I still think "Good" is the weakest choice of the three, but overall, not too bad.

Anyhow, just wanted to rant. And I know there's gonna be some whining when the MCC does lose its 100% econ ability (since many players counted on that-which no offense, is just poor planning) but for the Betterment of the Game, I'm all for it.

I'd love to see the MCC finally at work, causing those AI worlds to flip to my side :)

It's true that Good is still the weaker choice of the 3, even more so because if you would start neutral, for most events it pays off to take the evil choice. Access to psionic beams alone makes Evil an excellent choice, though MVL scores will undoubtedly suffer from the loss of 100% economic bonus.

I agree that having more balanced alignments is in the best interests of the game. It really is something that should have been fixed long ago. I cant remember the last time I played something other than Evil. Next on the list in my opinion would be to balance the scoring differentials for the victory conditions so that the non-conquest victories can be more competetive for scoring.

Couldn't agree more - I've already planned around not having that econ bonus in TA, and do not expect the overall potential economy to be much less for a similar number of planets (but then there are less habitables in TA).

Would be nice if the MCC was fixed properly though. I don't see a lot that neutral has to offer. Terraforming can be obtained with the Orbital Terraformer, the effect from native morale bonus is capped at 100% anyway - easily achievable with tech, trade goods and a couple of resource SBs. NLCs... ridiculously expensive.

As for good, well it's just plain wrong  :HOT:

The Tyranny of Evil agrees with the above statement :) .

I knew as soon as Brad took notice that it was finally the nail in the MCCs coffin. I have also been guilty of making it a part of my plans on some games. I'm already adjusting to life without it though and now am waiting to see what they are going to give it, since I doubt they can actually get the flipping planets part working like it should. There's a lot more to that part than just an .xml fix.

Only some? ;) I've used it in virtually every non-ZYW game for the last 6 months.

lol, ok maybe more like most/all games. It was a hard one to resist and really once I stopped making 15K+ Tech capitols using NLCs a year ago I don't think I've went anything but evil.

That sounds a lot like my experience too. Id really like to see the planet flipping ability implemented as it was intended. One nice effect is that it would shorten some of the clean-up phase of games a little bit.
