Future of Galciv?

Is their any information public yet on the future plans for Galciv over the next year after publication?

I know that their are plans to update the product with new AI routines, UP resolutions, etc - but anything besides that? A more modular unit system like Alpha Centauri would be nice...

thanks,
Daniel

Here is the current basic plan:

On March 26th: GalCiv is released

On March 26th: GalCiv BonusPak for customers released (extra ships, new features, etc. to reward new buyers).

BonusPak features:
+ Bonus ship: Anti-mattership
+ Bonus ship: Excalibur
+ Bonus Technologies
+ Enhanced Game Setup Screen (lots more setup options)

On April 18th: GalCiv 1.01 released (address things that players bring up)

June 13th: GalCiv Expansion pack. I won't say what's in this but users will be quite happy I think.

We indies don't get the coverage that most games get, so we have to work harder. ;)

There will be updates beyond June 13th. Just nothing specifically scheduled.

Brad...a question. Exactly how is Stardock an independent developer. I thought indies were developers who published games themselves, but you have Strategy First publishing GalCiv. Or does indie mean that you haven't recieved money up front??

Bonus pack released on the same day as the base game? To reward new buyers? This doesn't make sense to me, what am I missing? (If it's not a marketing secret... :) )

Will the Bonus Pack and Expansion Pack be free? If not, how much will it cost?

Delmar: It's nice to go online and find that there are new things waiting for you. And it means that the GalCiv team can essentially work on these features (which appear to be mostly just more content, so I'm guessing they're fairly easy to do) until the release date, while the actual release copy of the core game has to be ready quite a bit before them.

An expansion pack?
Will it by any chance contain... a.... GAMMA SLIDER OPTION!?!?! :CONGRAT:

Nidaros download the PowerStrip, it does work pretty well and you won't have to worry about it anymore :) I just tried it on my wife's computer ( in a bright room ) and it helped he out. It's free to try and i think $30us to buy if you like it. I can't use it on my work system, 4000+ line of resolution, It comes with a probe to set it up to exacting specifications

Well, actually I just did, and it worked... SPLENDID.. LOL
Thanks a million guys, so Frogman, no need for a gamma slider:)

The BonusPak and Expansion pack are both going to be free.

There's a reason for the BonbusPak beyond marketing..

I am sure this will come as a shock to everyone reading this but...well there are people out there that actually PIRATE games. No really, it's true. And while I'm SURE GalCiv won't be pirated by anyone anywhere, we thought it might still be a good idea to be able to provide a BonusPak to verified customers (each Galciv has its own unique serial #).

One thing I always wanted in Galciv is the ability to remove obsolete ships from military project. I dont need to see StarFighters when I can crank out Battle Cruisers at 1 per turn.

frogboy
i have a request for the stongest ship ever to be built
"the spam killer" it leaves your game enters the internet and destroys the computers of those spam monkeys. cost 30000000bc :D

Frogboy,

I want to be the first to stand up, jump up and shout out; Thank You for planning on supporting your game in this way. :CONGRAT:

It is a rare thing to find Developers supporting games to this extent. I look forward to getting GC (it is on pre-order) and then telling others to get it and play it as well.

For what it is worth, keep up the good work and again; Thank You.

One of the best things about the OS/2 game was the periodic updates that Brad & Stardock came up with. I had a game going almost continuously for 4 years - because of the innate replayability factors and the updates, the game never got stale. I was always eager to start a new game just as soon as I'd finished one.

I salute Brad and Stardock for carrying over this continuing upgrade philosophy to GC/Win and Object Desktop.

I agree with jmgarth about continued upgrading.

To bad windows doesn't follow the same type of stuff. They say they fix something, and it returns to haunt you. :sniff!:

The BonusPak and Expansion pack are both going to be free.

I hope this means that Dregin.net members will see the bonus stuff on Stardock Central on March 26.

Yep.

Like jmgarth, I had GC/OS2 on my computer until I had to give up and switch to Windows (I went kicking and screaming, and still complain at times). And the occasional upgrades, bonus and expansion packs helped to keep the game fresh.

So they're just called "bonus" and "expansion" packs for marketing reasons? Not that I'm complaining!

LOL LOL LOL LOL

So if I pre-order GC now at Amazon will I also get the bonus pack ?
I will have major trouble waiting for the release (and 4 week delivery), especially since I keep reading about all these beta-players having marvellous fun. Just my luck I am too late with pre-ordering :(
Can't you guys release the demo ? I don't mind the bugs.

All these ideas sound great. The following are a few ideas/issues to consider for future expanansion/bonus packs. Some of them may alredy be in the plans ,if so, excuse the repitition.

1. A cutscene when victory is acheaved. Just a little something to feed the ego after hours of playing time, and make it hard not to push that start new game button.

2. It would be nice to have a list of discovered planets sorted by class. Using scouts lots of planets can be found, but keeping track of where to send that new colony ship in a huge galaxy is a bit tedious.

3. It would be nice to be able to sort through the starbases, similar to the planets, so as to see which improvements (summary of how much)are where, before sending out that new constructor. Lots of star bases in a huge galaxy are tediuos to keep up with.

4. It would be nice to be able to load in predefined lists for the governors rather than having to make a change/addition whenever a new tech is uncovered in each game. (The governors list are fantastic. They solve the micromanagement issue of MOO2 while still leaving the player in control. Outstanding!!)

1) That's in 1.0. We just don't include in the beta. There are several minutes of cut scenes in the game.

2) Yep, it's coming.

3) That's agood idea.

4) Hmm, I'm not sure about that but will tihnk about it.
