Sins Beta 3 - Technical Feedback *POST HERE*

Sins Beta 3 - Technical Feedback *POST HERE*

This thread is for technical feedback for Sins of a Solar Empire Beta 3.

Please reply to this post if you'd like to make: a bug report, let us know about a compatibility issue, graphics issues, performance reports, etc. (i.e., technical stuff).

Before making a report, please be aware that the minimum system requirements for Beta 3 are:

  • Windows XP SP2 / Vista
  • 1.8 GHz Processor
  • 512 MB RAM (1 GB RAM for Vista)
  • 128 MB 3D DirectX Video Card
  • DirectX 9.0c
  • LAN or Broadband Internet Connection for Multiplayer

IMPORTANT:  When making a post about a bug, be certain to include - your system specs, a description of the bug you encountered, what you were doing when the bug occurred (how to reproduce it), and if it was reproducible or not.  We won't be able to make changes to the game without detailed information.

If you encounter a crash, Sins should automatically generate a minidump file. Please send the generated exception and a DirectX diag report to support(at)ironcladgames(dot)com along with a detailed description as outlined above. Minidump files are located in (please note these directories are hidden by Windows):

XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire
Vista: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\

If you'd like to give us some non-technical feedback, please post it here:

https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/index.aspx?AID=163062

By keeping this information in one place, it will go a long way towards us making Sins a better game!

Thanks!

Well, I'm sure Anslinger will be glad to know his propaganda machine has worked.

Drugs, as a whole, are not bad. Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Tylenol, and a dozen other over-the-counter medicines are vital to everyday life.

Even illegal drugs aren't necessarily all that nasty. Marijuana's sole real con is a slight tendency to cause mental illness for those that possess certain genetic disposition -- its less deadly than perfectly legal tobacco or alcohol! Admittedly, some drugs (such as meth) deserve the bad rep, and need stomping. But marijuana is really only illegal because a certain individual who shall remain nameless (not really, I named him above) got a bug up his rear over it.

dont kill people etc.

If you pull out the one about violence never solves anything, I'm going to get ticked. Until then, I'll just assume that that was a deliberate over-generalization.

Sorry to break up an important conversation .

When I saved my game and tried to reload it, it failed. A minidump was generated, and I accepted sending that at the confirmation question. Will you have need of the savegame too to see why it fails to load? BTW, I loaded the autosave instead, which fortunately was just a few minutes before, and worked fine.

Did you actually mail the minidump? The error message doesn't get it mailed -- you have to do that manually with your e-mail service.

Oh. Then it's quite confusing that there pops up a dialog asking if you want to send the minidump or not... I'll mail the minidump along with the savegame then.

wrong drugs you twat. I'm not some pot smoking, reject the man moron.
Marijuana's sole real con is a slight tendency to cause mental illness for those that possess certain genetic disposition

and the fact it interferes with axon development, causes extreme forgetfulness, intoxication-like effects

Marijuana is a tame example, but its STILL bad.

Tried loading up my game today and it would load, and instantly minimize. Tried to bring it back but it constantly would minimize. Just played a game last night without any issues. Only thing I changed was updated my nVidia drivers from beta 169.01 to 169.04. Haven't tried to uninstall drivers and go back to old, but I wouldn't think graphics drivers that were beta to begin with would effect "Acquire (Keyboard/Mouse) Failed." Total specs are:
*Windows XP SP2
*2.4GHz Processor
*3GB RAM
*640MB GeForce 8800 GTS
*DirectX 9.0c

After running the log, I would get:
[15:42: 4] D3D9 - IsWindowActive : (1)
[15:42: 4] Acquire (Keyboard) Failed...
[15:42: 4] Acquire (Mouse) Failed...
[15:42: 6] CommandSystem: StartUp.
[15:42: 8] D3D9 - IsWindowActive : (0)

Edit: Uninstalled the Beta 169.04 drivers and installed Beta 169.01 drivers. Game works just fine now. I'll check nVidia and see if there is other games or people having the same issue of games minimizing.
Yep, officially an nVidia beta driver issue. Apparently 169.04 has issues with full screen in Media Center and people are having studdering issues. Just going to stick with 169.01 since it plays all my games just fine.
