Auto-Upgrade of ships?

Im really not too sure about this but wondering what other people think.

There is always a danger where automation encroaches on "giving the player sumit to do". Added to player laziness to lean towards automising and removing a very clever part of the game.

Well, I can tell you that I don't. Other than the tutorial, I don't think I've ever used it -- I prefer to make my own choices, thank-you-very-much

Well depending on the scale of the game.
When we had the chance to choose a custom galaxys with 10 solar systems and 100 planets. And you have alot of fleets it can be very useful, so you dont forget to upgrade them.

Because of this a capital ship gets a lovely + sign when it leveled up, so you know where you have not spent ability points.

Personally I've never used the auto-pick. I don't trust to AI to do anything right. It would probably pick the flak ability for the Kol Battleship, or waste it on something else, like a free round of beer for the crew, or whatever.

Yeah i know what you mean, i dont trust it either, but when capships were unlimited i used it much much more
