The Endoran Coalition of Worlds

I hope you enjoy my first AAR

Hello everyone!

This is my first AAR, and i'm sorry to tell you that I don't have DA

I didn't record the first few years of this galaxy very accurately, but nothing exciting happened, so your not missing anything.

I'm going to take a story-like approach, but I'll explain what I'm doing if you are confused by my tactics, just ask. I'm not very good at GalCiv2, but I enjoy it.

For the first entry I'll be putting in my civ's backstory.

The Birth of, The Endoran Coalition of Worlds:

The history of The Endoran Coalition of Worlds, less formaly known as The Endoran Coalition and commonly referred to as The Coalition, goes back 1000 years to First Contact between 4 alien races that inhabited the Endor system.

These races were wary of eachother, but relations were good. After nearly 200 years a terrorist organization killed several key leaders in three of the civilizations. Of course the new leaders of these civilizations blamed Endor III, the un-affected one, even though an attempt was made on their ruling body aswell. A war errupted with Endor III fighting on three fronts. Eventually the others allied together, but this was brief. Differences between them caused the alliance to shatter and soon everyone was at war with everyone.

500 years of war nearly destroyed them all, and thats when the probe arrived...

The probe addressed the leaders of Endor III. The transmission said the probe was constructed by the Korx, and that they wished to aid Endor III against her aggressors. Seeking any way to end the bloodshed they put forth all their effort to construct a Stargate with the designs given to them by the Korx.

Because of the constant battles fought near their space they couldn't assemble it in orbit, they had to build it in pieces then assemble it when all was ready. They're plan was to create a lunar base by hollowing out a portion of their small moon.

After 10 years it was complete, but the resources required severely depleted the war effort, and it was all they could do to defend the Stargate before they activated it.

Three days of fighting passed before the Korx ships emerged through the event horizon. The ships were magnificent. To their horror, the Korx ships annihilated every ship in orbit, friend and foe.

Realizing the mistake they had made, the builders of the gate overloaded it's reactor, destroying it utterly.

The Korx were now trapped, they had no choice but to conquer these four war-torn races, or face a long dark voyage to an uninhabitated world.

Facing a new threat the four races declared a cease-fire until the Korx could be dealt with. But when the Korx seized Endor II they all realized it would take their combined fleets working in tandem to defeat this new foe.

After two years of war against the Korx the four races grew to respect eachother, atleast their militaries did. Four years into the war the Korx were driven from the system, but the Endor system had suffered greatly. All but Endor Prime was rendered completely uninhabitable, and Endor II was in such a state that it would take centuries of terraforming before anyone could live there.

The remaining survivors of the war all gathered at Endor Prime. Each race settled a different region of the planet and rebuilt their respective civilizations. To prevent any further hostilities, and to defend against any further incursions by the Korx, the survivors created an alliance. The alliance was dubbed, the Endoran Coalition of Nations.

Although it began as an alliance of four sovereign nations, it evolved as the international government gained more power, and the governments of the planet became more unified.

After 100 years of rebuilding on Endor Prime the terraforming of Endor II began. Scientists estimated that it would reach Class 4 in 200 years, to improve it further would require research far beyond the current capabilities of the Coalition. It was also at this time that The Endoran Coalition of Nations ceased to be four seperate nations and was united under a single governing body, namely a military council.

Knowing that their were advanced races out there who could likely crush the struggling Coalition with little effort was disquieting, to say the least. So the Coalition made sure that their soldiers were always ready to counteract any attempt to threaten its independence. Amongst other things, the Coalition focused on makeing sure it could find its enemies, if the need should arise.

Recognizing the potential of the Stargate technology, a scientist by the name of Korzak secretly did research into makeing a portable version of the space folding technology behind the gate. He needed to conduct this research secretly because it was a serious crime to conduct experiments on the Hell Gate Technology, as it was called by the populace. After 20 years of working on a secret space station Korzak completed an experimental Hyperspace engine. Detecting the energy build up in his reactors Coalition authorities closed in on him. When they approached he activated his hyperdrive, stunning the crew. Needless to say, his research was officially commissioned by the Science Ministry.

By 2223 the Coalition had completed their first Hyperspace functional ship, and construction began on two new vessels, the ECS Pathfinder and the ECS Sunflower. The Pathfinder was equipped with sensors that had been salvaged from a derelict space-craft that floated into the system.

Finding that their current form of government was woefully inadaquate to govern an interstellar empire, the ruling council decided to set up a temporary dictator until they could find a way to govern an interstellar empire effectively.

While the Council made the nominations, it was the people who chose their leader. On December 31st, 2224, Sereg-Thol was sworn into public service. The young general protested the idea of a dictator, even a temporary one, and this is exactly why he was chosen. The people were sure he would cast off the mantel of leadership when the time came.

Part I: The Saga Begins

December 31, 2224

Sereg-Thol looked towards the crowds, towards his 'subjects.' He sneered and shook his head at the thought. Dictatorships are a thing of the past! He screamed in his mind. Well, i'll just have to run this place so well they won't even need me anymore, he smiled to himself.

He addressed the mass of citizens, using the look he gave to his students when they graduated the Endoran Military Academy. It was a look of pride, and everyone there could feel it.

"People of the Endoran Coalition! I stand here because you chose me to lead our people into this new age. You chose me to make decisions that will shape our civilization for centuries to come. I am proud of my people, I am proud of what we've become. Look around you. The Coalition is comprised of four distinct species, four species that once waged a war for centuries. But we overcame those prejudices, we overcame the hatred in our most dire hour and faced a threat greater than any of us could imagine. We overcame that aswell! Nothing can stop the united power of The Coalition, and I will make certain of that. I will be makeing some changes, but I will not forget our past, our traditions. The first change I would like to make however, is the very name of the Coalition itself." At these words the crowd was hushed, perhaps they had chosen the wrong man for the job... "I now declare us to be, The Endoran Coalition of Worlds!!" A wave of relief swept through the crowd, followed by a thunderous cheer that shook Serg-Thol's bones.

"Not bad, for a man who hates politics." Sereg-Thol turned to see the Minister of Internal Affairs, Korzak II, son of the inventor of Hyperdrive and Minister of Science, with a smirk on his face.

"I still don't like this dictator business, even if its necessary." Sereg-Thol replied, sounding slightly deflated.

"It is necessary, we've done some serious research into this. Our current government can't handle the strain of governing multiple planets. We can hardly handle the orbital and lunar colonies, there is no way we could manage multiple worlds." Korzak II said, getting serious. "We need someone who can make the right decisions and make them relatively quickly. We need you."

"Alright, alright. I accepted, didn't I?" Sereg-Thol felt like he was being scolded.

"I'm glad you understand. I'll see you tommorow for the morning briefing."

January 1, 2225:

** Office of the Temporary Dictator of The Endoran Coalition of Worlds, Sereg-Thol**

"Okay, lets get this mess over with." Sereg-Thol sighed, atleast the chair was comfortable.

Korzak, the first, was first up. "Just last month we finished researching New Propulsion Techniques, we can now begin researching Ion Drive, but we need your approval first."

"Is their anything else we could be researching? I just want to know our options, thats all." Sereg-Thol inquired, still sounding tired.

"Well, yes. Were ready to advance in nearly every field of research at the moment." Korzak replied, sounding slightly miffed. Propulsion technology was his field of expertise afer all. "Here, this is a list of our current research projects that are awaiting approval, you can get back to me later. I need to run some diagnostics on our equipment anyway." Korzak walked out of the room.

Sereg-Thol eyed the list briefly then set it down. "Who's next?"

The Minister of the Treasury, Defense, Internal Affairs, all had something that needed approval. Two hours later Sereg-Thol decided the Coalition needed to get out into the galaxy, and fast.

Scans made by recently completed Stellar Cartography laboratories revealed that the Endor system was on the extreme eastern end of a massive star cluster that stretched out like a great disk. The rest of the galaxy was divided into two much smaller clusters. In order to secure dominance in this sector the Coalition would have to seize as many worlds as they could, and being on the edge of habitable space put the Coalition at a slight disadvantage.

Sereg-Thol put a signal through to Korzak in his lab, "Get to work on that Ion Drive Minister Korzak, I have a feeling we'll be needing it."

A smile appeared over Korzak's face, "Yes sir!"

Sereg-Thol then ordered the Pathfinder to the nearest system, hoping that no one was there. He ordered the Sunflower to follow.

Part II: Its Quiet, Too Quiet...

June 1st, 2226, Bridge of the ECS PathFinder

"Captain Rochek," Helmsmen Torek turned to his commanding officer, "we'll be within sensor range of the Arcadius system in a few minutes sir."

"Excellent. Ensign Soaren, report status of any planets the moment we have sensor data."

"Aye sir." Ensign Soaren responded.

"Hopefully we'll find a few more places for someone to pitch a tent," Rochek smiled.

"Sir!" It was Soaren again "Its Arcadius Five! Its a class 26!"

"My gods... Its practically a paradise..." Torek said, mouth wide open.

"Are there any inhabitants?" Rochek asked, sounding grim. How could such a lush planet not have inhabitants?

"I can't tell from this range sir, we'll have to enter the planet's orbit to make a proper scan." Ensign Soaren answered.

"Torek, you heard the lady, put us into orbit. Send an encoded subspace transmission to Endor Prime, let them know that we've found Eden, hopefully sans the snakes."

A few minutes later in Sereg-Thol's office.

"Sereg-Thol sir, we have a transmission from the PathFinder." Defense told him.

"Yes, what does it say." Sereg-Thol responded.

"Theres some good news, some bad news, and some very good news." Defense responded.

"I have a feeling that I want to hear it in that order." Sereg-Thol wasn't in the mood to play games.

"As always your powers of perception are flawless. Captain Rochek has discovered a habitable planet in the Arcadius system. Unfortunately there is a semi-sentient insect race on the planet, however it will be child's play to deal with them. The best part, the planet is a class 26!"

Sereg-Thol choked on his lemonade, a vice he acquired (along with PB &J sandwiches and varius cheeses) during a visit to Alan Bradley's home. "Class 26! My gods! Have the nearest colony ship redirected to that world immediately!"

"How will they deal with the inhabitants?"

"Have them relocated to an out of the way area. There is no need to destroy the creatures."

Two Weeks Later on Arcadius Five...

"Now this is why we've been spending billions of credits on faster engines! Can you imagine if the Terrans, or worse, the Korx got to this world before us?" Kanu took in a deep breath before and after his remark, Damn this place smells good! Kanu was a recent graduate of history. Originally from Endor, he was a colonist of Hatch II with his parents, then moved to Endor Prime again to study history, Kanu was now a colonist again. This time he would be there as a teacher of history.

"Why do you keep talkin' shit about the Terran Alliance? I can understand the Korx, especially with your history with them, but why the Terrans? The Coalition has good relations with the Alliance, and Alan Bradley and Sereg-Thol are good friends." Henry Wu responded with a tone of voice that revealed how often Kanu spoke this way, and exactly how Henry felt about these remarks about his species.

"Yes Henry, and you and I are friends aswell. But that doesn't change the fact that for the last 10,000 years there hasn't been a single day where there wasn't a war going on somewhere on Earth. Your species is extremely violent, and its made worse by the fact that your species is also highly adaptable and prone to recklessly fast technological advancement. Despite all the progress the Terran Alliance has made it could revert to intolerant, xenophobic, and violent in the blink of an eye. Unless the Terran Alliance becomes a part of the Coalition, I don't see how your species will survive the century. The worst part is that Terrans are capable of so much good, and yet so many are so incredibly evil, and even more do nothing at all. I'm not sure which ones are worse."

Okay... I was hoping to get some feedback. Good? Bad? If you think its alittle boring, trust me it gets better. I warned you earlier that the earlier years were dull. Okay, here is the next part...

Part III: Who you callin' a Paper Tiger?

One year later...

The Minister of Defense opened a channel to Sereg-Thol, nearly shouting "Sir! Terran Colony ships have been spotted heading for the cluster! If we don't do something they'll gain a foothold in this region an-"

Sereg-Thol cut him off "AND, Coalition interests will be threatened, I know. The Korx recently colonized some of the low quality worlds we left behind as well. I think its time you designed a better colony ship. We need faster ships Minister, I want you to get on it immediately."

"But sir, shooting them down would be more effective."

"Perhaps, but it would start a war we are not prepared to wage."

"If you would consider my proposals we would be."

"I have considered your proposals, and right now I believe its important that the Coalition be the only force within this region of space. I will not accept anything but complete Endoran control of this star cluster! Once we have established our colonies in the cluster we will turn to our navy, not before. Our armies are superior to any other and we have already started construction on a defensive fleet, that will be sufficient for the time being."

"As you command."

Sereg-Thol let out a deep sigh, he didn't like using his authority like that. Sereg-Thol turned on his console, then looked at a strategic map of the galaxy. The Coalition controlled over 60 worlds, its influence stretching light years beyond them. Worlds that had been originally colonized by the Terrans and Korx only weeks ago were beginning to become restless, beginning to think that joining the Coalition was a very good idea.

Sereg-Thol began thinking, Perhaps we should take advantage of their unrest? Perhaps we should extend a welcome hand?

Sereg-Thol touched a button on his desk and spoke "I want a delegation sent to Kwilik II, offer them membership in the Endoran Coalition of Worlds."

"Yes sir." A voice replied. Sereg-Thol removed his finger and returned to the map.

The Terrans were turning out to be a force to be reckoned with. While a small and frail species, they had proven to be extremely aggressive, and had an aptitude for warfare that was rivaled by few species. Although they had become relatively peaceful in the last century, Coalition leaders suspected that could change in an instant. In fact, there aggressive nature was beginning to surface. The Coalition was large and prosperous, growing more so every day. But the lack of any combat fleets made them a juicy target. Terran intentions were made evident just last week:

"Alan Bradley, good to see you! To what do I owe this transmission?"

"Sereg-Thol, I see you as a good friend, a strong leader with good values. Unfortunately, your aggressive approach to colonizing has made you're people abundant and prosperous, and made your navy weak. This leaves you open to attack by the Alliance's enemies. We cannot afford to let the Drengin or the Korx to triple in size by conquering you." Alan Bradley responded.

"Well, its a good thing that they don't have a Torian's chance on Drengi in doing that, isn't it?" Sereg-Thol responded curtly.

"Sereg-Thol, you have no navy! There is nothing that could stop them from overwhelming you!"

"You know as well as anyone that you can't conquer with a navy alone, you need a strong ground force. The Coalition is unmatched in ground combat. We simply have nothing to fear. Besides, we could assemble a formidable navy in a few months."

"By then you would be crushed by wave after wave of enemy fighters and transports. The truth is that my people have been guarding your territory from attack for months, and we expect to be compensated."

"If you want to extend your patrols, needlessly I might add, that's your prerogative. But don't come here demanding money from us! It looks like you Terrans are showing your true colors after all." Sereg-Thol cut-off the transmission.

Sereg-Thol touched a different button and spoke again, "Intelligence, funding is approved. I want daily reports. I want to know what Bradley has for breakfast, understand?"

A strange voice responded. "Yes sir."

Sereg-Thol touched another button, "Defense, begin construction of those Ankle Biter defense fighters you told me about."

"Okay, where?"

"Every shipyard that isn't already building something. I want atleast one of them on every planet, and build some of those Raptor heavy fighters on the more vital worlds."

"I'm on it."

I should have listened to my advisors, Sereg-Thol thought to himself. The Terrans are dangerous, we have to keep an eye on them

I like it, but I have one minor gripe: what do the Endorans look like? Other than that, good job!

Oooo, good point. I would call that a major oversight on my part, I apologize. I'll work on that right now.

It's pretty good so far keep going

Sorry its taking so long, but after General Homsar pointed out that I forgot to describe the races I created a whole new part to fix it. Its turning out to be longer than I thought. Anyway, although the next part wasn't planned, all the events in it actually happened in the game. I should have it up in a few hours.

I also forgot to mention some details about the galaxy.

Large Galaxy, Abundant everything, tight clusters(for stars), normal research rate, difficulty setting is whatever is harder than normal (I told you i'm not that good), and blind exploration is on.

Okay, here is the next part...

Part IV: A chance encounter far from home...

September 8, 2227
Bridge of the ECS PathFinder

"Lieutenant-Commander Soaren, what readings do we have on the anomally?" Rear-Admiral Rochek asked his Science Officer.

"Its difficult to get any distinct readings Admiral, it seams to be some kind of subspacial disturbance, perhaps a wormhole. If we get closer we may be able to get a better reading."

"Lieutenant Torek bring us in real slow, and be ready to go into full reverse on my command. Soaren, let us know when you get something."

Both officers responded with an "Aye, sir."

After a few minutes Soaren spoke "Sir, we're close enough to put the anomally on the main viewer."

"Torek, all stop. Soaren, main-viewer please."

The large view screen zoomed in on the wormhole. The strange phenomenon barely visable, the only indication it was there was the distinct lack of substance and the space debris that was sucked into it.

"Amazing, this the first time a wormhole has ever been discovered. Up until now it was only a theory." Lt.Commander Soaren was honestly intrigued by this potentially deadly freak of nature. This fascination was not shared by Rochek, and it showed on his face as he turned to look at her.

Torek tilted his head slightly toward Soaren's station and said "But I thought that Stargate the Dominion sent all those centuries ago made a wormhole?"

"No, that operated on a hyperspacial catapult principle. The gate would envelope the ship in an energy field and launch it through hyperspace. When the ship reached the destination the energy field would be broken down by the target gate and the ship would be pulled out of hyper space. However, the ship had a tendancy to slow down along the way, thats why normal hyperdrive works so much faster, it applies constant force. Wormholes on the other hand, work instantly." Soaren began staring again, as if in a daze.

"Do we know where it would take us if we entered it?"

"What?" Soaren shook herself out of her daze. "Uh, no sir. This wormhole is unstable, its impossible to tell where it would lead, and it would likely collapse after we got through."

"So we'd have to take the long way back." Rochek responded.

"I'm afraid so, sir."

"Ensign Wu, contact Fleet Command and inform them of our situation. Request recommendations for our next move."

"Yes sir."

"I'll be in my quarters, Soaren make a scan of the debris field, there might be something interesting for us to look at while we wait for a response."

"Aye sir."

Rear Admiral Rochek left the bridge and proceeded to his quarters to do some long overdue paperwork and check his incoming transmissions. Meanwhile, on the bridge the officers strike up a conversation with the new guy.

"So, Ensign Wu, how do you like the ship so far?" Torek asked, always the more outgoing of the bridge crew.

"Its great, alot nicer than the Prospecter I rode on when I left Endor Prime. And you can call me Henry."

"Which Prospector was that?" Soaren had just finished programming the scanning pattern into the computer and decided to join the conversation.

"The Ara." Henry answered.

"Really?! Thats the Prospector that went to Arcadius Five, why in the cluster would you leave that place?" Torek was baffled.

"Well, I had a falling out with my only friend in the entire Coalition, and I decided I needed a fresh start. So I took the first transport to Endor Prime and joined up with Fleet Command."

"May I ask what happened between you?" Torek asked.

"Differing views. He was a historian, researched Xeno-History for the most part. Liked to find reasons why the Coalition was better than everyone else. His favorite punching bag was the Terrans. After awhile I just couldn't take it anymore."

"Sorry to hear that. Just so you know, Rochek doesn't allow that kind of thing on PathFinder, you don't have to worry about that here.

"Thanks, thats good to hear."

"You must have been one of the first Terrans to join the Coalition. So, have you gotten used to our appearance yet? I hear Terrans have a tough time adjusting when living around other species." Soaren's inquisitive nature was surfacing again.

"Well, Arcadius was mostly colonized by the Eren, the species from Endor Three. I got used to the four compound eyes and the mandables pretty quick. It helped that they bore a striking resemblance to a 200 year old movie alien, i'm sure you haven't heard of them, but they were called 'Predators.' Anyway, when I was in the academy I ran into the Luin, the people from Endor Prime. They looked alot like the Akillians, except taller and blue, so that wasn't too tough. But the real hard ones were the Kanoans, the species from Endor Four."

"Yeah, Rochek's people are pretty intimidating. Thats why they get command roles so often, they're practically born to lead." Soaren told him.

"Its those eyes! The pupils are shaped like spurs, and their irises are that yellow-gold color. As if it wasn't bad enough that they are essentially bald, or they have spines for eyebrows, or the green scalely skin, or even that they're 3 meters tall, but those eyes! Anyway, you two are Carochan, your species originated on Endor Two. Your actually the first i've met."

"So, what do you think of us?" Torek asked with a playfull grin.

"Well, your skin is alot like Terran skin, it looks kinda Mediterannean infact. Except for the extra bits of hair on the outside of your forearms, and the uh... things," Wu used hand motions to signify the four evenly space horns that grew from the hairline on the forehead and curved backward following the contours of the skull, with only a centimeter or two of clearance, "your alot like Terrans. Oh yeah, can't forget the pointy ears."

"So, no screaming in terror when you see someone come down the hall?" Torek feigned disappointment.

"'Fraid not." Henry answered.

"Well Henry, I think its safe to say you have two knew friends in the Coalition." Soaren smiled, revealing her species sharp, almost fang-like, teeth.

"Holy Mother of God!" Henry shouted, nearly falling out of his chair.

"Hahaha! Oh, that was priceless. Looks like we might get a few screams of terror after all." Torek laughed loud and hard.

The next hour or so was quiet while they waited for a response from Fleet Command. When the response finally came some felt excited about the prospect of travelling through a wormhole into unknown space. Others just felt sick.

"Alright, bring us in Mr. Torek. Ensign Thega," the Arcean tactical officer turned to his commanding officer.

"Yes sir?"

"Bring the Navigational Shielding to full power, and tap in the auxillary power to the integrity fields. This is gonna be one rough ride. Soaren, feed the wormhole's telemetry to Torek's console. We don't want to be torn apart by the subspace turbulence on the wormhole's inner wall."

"Aye sir."

Moments later they passed the wormhole's event horizon and were shooting through subspace at thousands of times the speed of light. Remarkably they made it through without any damage.

"Soaren, how far have we gone?"

"One moment sir... We are at the far end of the cluster sir, atleast 100 parsecs from the wormhole opening. And sir, the wormhole collapsed behind us, as predicted."

Being far outside their normal operating range most of the 185 crew were put into stasis, leaving the minimum of 20 required to run the ship awake. These included, but were not limited to, the bridge crew, the medical officer, two nurses, the chief engineer, and two of her team.

Ten days into the 2 week journey back into the PathFinder's operating range something came into sensor range.

"Bridge to Admiral Rochek, please report to the bridge." Rochek heard Ensign Wu's voice over the intercom and put down the book he had been reading.

Rochek arrived on the bridge a few minutes later, "What is it Ensign?"

Soaren answered the question, "Sir, we've picked up a vessel coming our way, it looks alot like the PathFinder sir, but with a few subtle differences."

"Such as?"

"Well, the overall shape seems to be the same, as far as the sensor readings can tell. But the energy signature and some of the alloys are different."

"Are they on an intercept course?"

"Sort of sir, I believe they are heading to the same anomally as us."

"Hmm... are they armed?"

"I don't detect any weapons, they seem to be an exploration vessel like the PathFinder."

"Which means their Tactical Officer is as useless as Thega here." Torek prodded the Arcean.

"Keep it up Lieutenant, I may just sharpen my Kelek on your skull." Thega said back.

"Shut up both of you!" Rochek yelled.

"Yes sir, sorry sir." Torek said and returned his attention to the helm. Thega said nothing but seemed to shrink by a few inches. Rochek's species, or perhaps it was just Rochek, was the only force in the galaxy that could cow an Arcean.

Rochek turned back to the view screen, took a deep breath, and sat down. Then said, "Continue on current heading, increase speed to 90% of full."

"Aye sir." Torek responded.

Several hours later the PathFinder was within hailing distance.

"Main viewer Lieutenant-Commander Soaren, optimum magnification." The unknown vessel popped onto the main viewer, the resemblance to the PathFinder could not be denied. Torek had learned along time ago not to make un-solicited comments, and the others didn't really know what to say.

"Ensign Wu, open hailing frequencies. Unknown vessel, this is Rear-Admiral Rochek, commanding officer of the Endoran Coalition Ship PathFinder. Please identify yourself."

"Message sent on all frequencies sir." Ensign Wu said, fullfilling his role as Communications Officer. A few moments later, "Sir, we have a response from the alien vessel."

On the screen appeared a reptillian life-form. Its cheek-bones highly pronounced, with red hair growing on the underside of them and in two rows on the top of the skull. Its mouth was almost beak like in shape and filled with teeth.

"I am Captain Vorn of the Drengin Empire Flagship Kli'Thas. The Drengin Empire has heard of your Coalition. The Terran Alliance has warned us of you, they claim that you are trying to take over the galaxy. Is this true?"

"It is true that The Coalition intends to become a major force in the galaxy, but galactic domination? I don't think so. The Coalition makes war against those that threaten her, we don't go around starting fights. Wars are expensive." Rochek smiled with this last remark.

"Hahaha, I think I like you Rear-Admiral. But be warned, the Coalition may not be out to dominate the galaxy, but WE are. By the way, some friendly advice for you Rochek, the Terrans are not always what they seem. I'd keep an eye on that one there." Vorn nodded to Wu, who gave an irritated look. "You'd be better off just eating him, save yourself the trouble, the skin on the back of the hand is the sweetest." Vorn displayed a wicked smile.

"Captain Vorn, this Terran is a citizen of the Coalition, and a member of my crew, and NO ONE will be eating him. What you do to other Terrans is not my concern, or the Coalition's."

"Perhaps our people could get along Rochek... We'll just have to wait and see." At that Vorn cut the transmission.

Rochek touched a contact on the arm of his command chair, "Engineering?"

"Lieutenant Beleg here, what is it Admiral?" the voice said over the comm system.

"Implement those Impulse modifications, that should squeeze an extra parsec or so out of the engines over the next few days. Report when the modifications are complete. Lieutenant Torek, where will that bring us next to the Kli'Thas?"

"That oughta get us to the anomally a few hours before they do, assuming that their new speed is their full."

"Good, continue course. When the modifications to the engines are complete increase speed to full."

Part V: Now the REAL fun begins...

By 2229 the Coalition had nearly complete control of their home star cluster. There were only a hand full of worlds retained by the Terrans and Korx within the cluster, and all were low quality. The Coalition even controlled a few systems in the southern tip of the second cluster. Racing westward were Prospectors that were built on planets colonized only a year earlier by other Prospectors. That's all it took, with the standard development plan a colony was self-sufficient and stable in one year. A factory would be built speedily, then a business district, followed by agriculture, entertainment, and depending on the planet, a research facility or starport.

Prospectors were being sent to the distant Ditla and Vizzard systems in the extreme west, and the Brindle and Sauron systems in the extreme south. Both were separated from the rest of the galaxy by several sectors of empty space, and would be difficult to assault.

With a Star Republic now in place Sereg-Thol believed that he could finally return to his duties in the military. However, he was elected Prime Minister, and returned to the same office he had occupied for years.

"This is really getting tiresome." Sereg-Thol's Luin skin was showing stress induced aging.

"At this point the Coalition is really running itself Prime Minister." One of his secretaries said, trying to console his leader.

"You must be new... How is the plan coming?"

"We've completed negotiations with the Thalan and Drengin. Turns out the Drengin had been trying for peace for months, it was the Thalan who were reluctant to end the war. But, with some coaxing, and a bit of free technology, they were willing to call it all off. Which is strange, since the Drengin ships are nearly twice as powerful."

"Did they agree to join the Coalition?"

"No, but the Drengin did agree to an Alliance. The Thalan said they need more time to think it over. The Minister of Foreign Affairs believes they are still hung up on the matter of the human worlds in The Coalition."

"Well, they did come to this sector to hunt them down. Tell Foreign Affairs to assure the Thalan that the Terran problem is well in hand, and that before the 2230's are over, the Terran threat will be neutralized."

"But sir, I thought relations with the Terrans had improved over the last few years?"

"They have, but I don't trust them. Not after Bradley tried to use some half-baked threat to extort credits from us."

"I see. So are you making any changes to The Plan?"

"No, we're going through with the assimilation of the Dominion. We'll deal with the Terrans after that." The secretary took down a few notes and moved on to the next agenda.

"The designs for the new Harbinger frigates are complete. Construction is at full speed on three worlds. Korzak the First says he will have some new Logistical concepts complete in a few days, which will allow us to put fourteen of the new ships into one fleet."

"Great, when we have the full fleet assembled approach the Carinoids and Thalan for an alliance. Anything else?"

"Yes sir, one last thing. Intelligence reports that we have fully infilltrated the Dominion of Korx, further espionage spending will no longer be required."

"Excellent, have those funds redirected to the construction of the Harbinger frigates. Your dismissed."

Sereg-Thol touched the button on his console that would patch him through to Defense, noticing how worn it had become, "Defense, the information you need is ready. Let me know when you have some ideas on how to approach our old friends in the Oxor system."!

Thanks for answering my question, and good luck with the Korx. Oh, and ignore what some Drengin might tell you, they are delisous if you cook them right!

No problem General, I hadn't put much thought into what the four species looked like until you pointed it out. All I knew was that Sereg-Thol's species was the blue version of the Akillians (its the Coalition's race portrait). I got the name's for some of my characters and species from the Appendix: Elements of Names in Sindarin and Quenya from The Silmarillion. Sereg-Thol = Blood-Helm, Ara = Holy, Luin = Blue, Kanoan = Commanders, Carochan = Fanged Ones, Eren = Lonely Ones (they were alone in the Endoran war that started 500 years ago, and they built the Korx Stargate), Kanu = Commander of Bowmen.

I forgot yet another thing about this galaxy    The only victory conditions allowed are Influence and Conquest (stupid me).

Part VI: With Friends Like These...

May, 2230: The last habitable planets have been colonized.

December 15, 2230: Office of the Prime Minister of the Endoran Coalition of Worlds...

"Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs would like to speak with you." The secretary told Sereg-Thol.

"Alright." A few moments later Foreign Affairs walked in.

"Mr. Prime Minister, our assets in the Terran Alliance have told us that the Paulos are in negotiations with the Terrans, and they brought a computer core with them."

"So? We have nothing to fear from the Paulos trading technology with the Terrans. Ever since we proved that we could build a competent defensive fleet the Terrans have kept quiet."

"Sir, the computer core was Endoran."

Suddenly Sereg-Thol felt sick. "Your telling me they are negotiating with the Terrans to give them our technology?"

"I'm afraid so. We can't positively confirm it sir, because we never set up assets within the Paulos government, but its a pretty safe bet."

"H-how did they get one of our computer cores?"

"Do you remember when we outfitted our old scout ships with survey modules?"

"Yes, we had just developed that Galactic Guide Book, it allowed us to outfit ships with surveying equipment for practically nothing. What about it?"

"Well, those little ships were given our more advanced computer cores with a full database in order to better perform they're functions. One of those ships disappeared in the Paulos system while en route to a derelict space craft detected by our Prospectors*. Turns out the pilot was a Paulosian immigrant. It could be a coincidence, the pilot could have just crashed, but the Paulosians seem to have gotten ahold of the core."

"Damn it! I knew that some of our so-called 'friends' were just kissing ass, but..." Sereg-Thol became quiet, he thought long and hard. He touched a contact on his console. "Get Defense in here, now!"

Foreign Affairs moved to leave, "No, you stay. I'll need you here as well." Foreign Affairs stopped and returned to his place in front of Sereg-Thol's desk.

"You can sit down, Minister, the furniture doesn't bite."

Just then Defense arrived. "Sit down Minister, we have very important matters to discuss." Sereg-Thol looked grave, then said "Foreign Affairs has given me some very distressing news, the Paulos have somehow acquired one of our computer cores, and are in negotiations with the Terrans to sell Coalition technology to them."

"Figures, the Paulos are a bunch of sniveling weaklings. They are an amphibious species, so they need to bring a lot of water in their ships to maintain humidity levels, it shortens the range on their ships. They only recently became advanced enough to leave their solar system. To late of course," Defense displayed a devious smile, "the Coalition has already colonized every world within 200 light years of their system."

"What's your point?" Sereg-Thol asked.

Foreign Affairs pointed at Defense, in a kind-of 'I get it now' gesture. "He's right, they're probably negotiating for planets. Their starting to suffer from over-population and alot of Paulos have been emmigrating."

"Hell, the core itself is worth a planet, even without the data," Korzak said from the doorway. "More likely a star system," He said as he walked in and took a seat.

"The Terrans would never give up an entire star system." Foreign Affairs scoffed.

"I don't think you understand how much more advanced we are than the rest of the galaxy." Korzak replied. "If you looked at one or two fields of research you might not think we were doing much better. In fact, if you looked at the right fields you'd see that we even fall behind. But when you look at the big picture, we are vastly superior. And the gap is widening. The Coalition is so vast at this point that my research budget means I will be able to research Mark Two Hyperwarp engines in two weeks. TWO WEEKS!! It'll take the Terrans a year just to get to Hyperwarp Mark One! That core is worth at least a two colony system."

"Back to the matter at hand," Defense said. "The Paulos are attempting to sell stolen Endoran technology to the Terrans. What are we going to do about this?"

"We're going to destroy them." Sereg-Thol said coldly. "We need to make an example of the Paulos. The galaxy needs to know that no one steals from the Coalition."

"But sir, if we attack the Paulos then their delegation on Earth will more than likely hand over the core for nothing." Foreign Affairs warned.

"Then we'll have to make sure the core is removed from the equation." Sereg-Thol responded.

"But how?" Foreign Affairs asked.

"We could send in some of our Tir'Quan agents, we even have human ones." Defense cut in.

"Are you sure?" Sereg-Thol asked. "We haven't had a chance to field test them yet."

"I'm sure, this would be the perfect mission to test their skills." Defense replied.

"Good. Foreign Affairs, you, Defense, and Intelligence are to put together a plan to either retrieve or destroy the stolen core. I want it done quickly, and I want it to be done in tandem with the invasion of Paulos."

"Speaking of Intelligence, why isn't he here telling us this?." Defense asked.

"He is currently running a Covert Training Op on Claire III and had his office route all his incoming transmissions to me." Foreign Affairs answered.

"Why you?" Korzak asked, with a semi-suspicious squint.

"Because I was one of his agents before I became a diplomat." Foreign Affairs replied.

"Then how will he collaborate with us on the Terran Op?" Defense asked.

"He'll be back in about a week." Foreign Affairs answered.

"And sir, we will need to run this by the Senate. Of course, with your popularity right now that's merely a formality." Foreign Affairs said.

"Do it anyway, this is a Republic after all."

"It will take four weeks to route the Harbingers to the Paulos system." Defense said.

"Fine, but I want you to rush an Assimilator^ into construction on Paulos II."

"Yes sir."

"Alright, get to work people. The security of the Coalition may be at stake."

* Prospectors are my custom colony ships. By this point all planets had been colonized.
^ Assimilators are my custom troop transports.

Note: This whole thing with the Paulos stealing Endoran tech is a fabrication, I did indeed invade the Paulos, but I had no justification besides wanting to clean the Minors out. Sereg-Thol, and the Coalition, would not invade a planet on a whim, so I wove a common in-game event into the story as justification.

This is likely be to the last entry for several days, I'm helping my mother do some painting

Part VII: Okay, its Nap Time!

Five Weeks Later:

"Big Daddy, this is Tiny Tot, Big Daddy please respond."

"Tiny Tot, this is Big Daddy, what is your status?"

"Big Daddy, we are standing by and feeling a little sleepy."

The Lieutenant at Mission Control on Thindor II turned to the Minister of Intelligence, an Arcean, and at 3 meters tall of a deficient stature... for an Arcean of course. Intelligence didn't even look away from the monitor that displayed the output of the agent's ocular implants*, he just nodded approval.

"Tiny Tot this is Big Daddy, Nap Time is a go. I repeat, Nap Time is a go."

"Confirmed Big Daddy, we are go." Colonel Richards turned to his teammates; Mr. Orange: a Paulos, Mrs. Green: a half Terran half Drengin (don't ask), and Mrs. Blue: a Terran. Richards himself was Terran whose codename was Colonel Red. "Well team, we are go."

"Great! I was about to have some real Nap Time if it had taken any longer." Mr. Orange complained.

"You know as well as the rest of us that we need to do this simultaneously with Operation Frog Legs to prevent either target from getting any heads-up." Colonel Richards/Red replied.

"Well, thanks to your people's sniveling and sneaky ways we finally have something to do." Mrs. Green teased, showing her usual lack of empathy, and giving Nature a one up against Nurture.

"Watch it Green," Blue cut in, "you should know better than to make a racial slur. We may be on Earth, but daddy is always watching." Blue tapped her temple, indicating the cybernetic implants*

"Bah, you and your political correctness." Green spoke the last two words with no small amount of disgust.

"Don't worry about it Blue, I don't blame her. I'm a little embarrassed to be in my own skin actually." Orange said in a subdued tone.

"You don't have to be, your not a Paulosian, not really." Colonel Red cut in. The next words he said using their encrypted subspace communicator implants*. You're an Endoran, be proud of it.

Orange's face got serious and he straightened his posture, Thank you sir. I am.

Green turned to Red, also getting serious. We all are sir, and we're ready to start this mission.

At that they all exchanged nods and separated, each moving into position. Orange walked into the Paulos Embassy across the street from the bistro they all had met at, posing as a Paulos official. Red and Blue started walking down the street hand-in-hand, pointing at some of the larger structures and generally making like they were tourists, telling those they asked directions from that they came from Gabe IV. Green moved to the Paulos Embassy as well, but several minutes after Orange had already gone inside. She positioned herself at the bottom of the steps and pretended to read a Soldier of Fortune.

Orange moved through the embassy making his way toward the Moisturization Room (basically a sauna) in the west wing. Once inside he discretely slipped a small capsule into the vaporization tank and then swallowed a small pill. For the next five minutes Orange made small talk with the delegates and aides arranged in the room, waiting for his little surprise to take effect.

Meanwhile Green had began drinking what appeared to be Arcean Battle Wine, but was really a mineral water with color additives. Also, Red and Blue had made it over to the Embassy's side of the street and were looking at a map nearby to where Green was sitting.

After the sedative had taken effect Orange proceeded through a maintenance hallway that gave access to the heavily secured room that held the Endoran Core. Orange's large Paulos frame made it difficult to weave between the pipes that lined and crossed the hallway. Eventually he came across his target, the maintenance door to the Secured Storage Area of the embassy.

"Colonel Red, this is Mr. Orange, I am in position. Time for you to make some noise."

"Copy that Mr. Orange, noise it shall be."

Blue and Red turned to Green's general direction and pointed down the street, as if they had just figured out where they were and where they were going, and giving the signal to Green at the same time. Green stood up just as Red and Blue were walking by, the three collided and dropped to the ground.

"Watch where you're going, you stupid pink skins!" Green shouted in the middle of standing up. "Aw damn it, now look what you did!" Green pointed at the broken bottle of 'Battle Wine.'

"Do you have any idea how much Arcean Battle Wine costs? 300 credits! That's how much! I needed that stuff to get my Jackalope riled up for tonight's match!"

"Uh... Look, miss...?" Red started to say.

"None of your business what my name is, just gimme 400 credits, that aughta cover it."

"But you said it cost 300." Blue said meekly.

"What's your point?" Green moved in closer, like she was ready to fight. A crowd started to gather, and the front guards at the embassy started looking nervous, exchanging glances at each other.

"Now wait just a minute, lets just calm down. Its obvious you may have had a little too much of that wine yourself, so lets--"

Green interrupted him. "You callin' me a drunk!"

Red looked like he had just lost his patience with the woman. "Yes, yes I am."

Blue grabbed Red's arm, "Honey, don't aggravate the woman. You know how they can be..."

"OH! That's the last straw pink skins! You're going home in body bags!" Green lunged at Red in a mad frenzy.

* Cybernetic technologies (along with some Metallurgic and Artificial Intelligence Techs) are part of a small mod I made to add something new to the game. They are not a cheat, they are well balanced and the AI researches them at a fair interval. If some of you are interested I may even put it in the library

Part IIX: Mmmm... Tastes like chicken!

Meanwhile, on the bridge of the PathFinder, approaching Paulos IV:

"Thega, did we lose any of the fleet along the way?" Admiral Rochek asked his new First Officer. Soaren was now Captain of the Harbinger, first of its class, and Torek was a Commander, Soaren's First Officer infact. Thega and Wu, who was now a Lt. Commander and still the comm officer, were the last of Rochek's first bridge crew.

Thega checked his monitors then said, "No, all thirteen ships have arrived."

"Good, now lets see what these upgrades can do, shall we?" Rochek was referring to the massive two week overhaul the PathFinder had endured in the shipyards over Weber II. The ship was the first, and only, Gilfea class frigate. Named after an ancient sky god from the oldest Eren religion, the PathFinder was similar in capability to the 13 Harbinger ships that she led, atleast on paper. In truth the experience gained by her crew over the last seven years, and the various alloys, crystals, and energy patterns scanned, had made ship more than twice as powerfull. "Bring us in at 10% helmsman."

The young Ensign gave a chipper "Aye sir" and fiddled with his controls. Who was he again? Rochek thought to himself. I know I know his name. He's Thalan... damn! Those insects have such bizarre names. What was their leader's name again? Hithoosala? Mithesius? Hithesius! Wait, now I remember the lad's name.

"Good work Ensign Sethius."

"Thank you sir."

"Sir, the Paulos ships are moving to block us. It seems they have two Defender class ships, and one military type Transport ship." Thega reported.

"Defender class? Those are one of the weakest ships ever designed. The only thing worse is the Star Fury class. What are they thinking?" Lt. Commander Wu was shocked at this pathetic display.

"Wu, open communications with the Transport." The screen showed the face of an older Paulos, his orange skin slightly faded. He bore the markings of a Preator, a Paulosian rank above Captain and below 2nd Class Rear Admiral. The rank meant little, and was often given to ageing Paulosian Captains who had shown distinction, but not enough to rank Admiral.

"This is Preator Corgus, what business does the Coalition have with the Paulos?"

"I am Admiral Rochek of the Endoran Coalition of Worlds, and I have come here to inform you that the Coalition is seizing your world, and charging your officials with illegaly seizing a Coalition vessel, unlawfull imprisonment of a Coalition officer, and selling stolen Coalition technology to her enemies. What is your reply?"

Rochek thought that Preator Corgus' skin was already alittle pale for a Paulosian, but it now seemed almost white. You should be scared, you sniveling coward.

"Uh, I-I, I must consult with my superiors." At that Corgus looked to his left and glared hard, Rochek rightly assumed that he was signaling his comm officer to kill the transmission.

"What do we do now sir?" That was Thega, he was eager for a fight, as his race usually seemed to be.

"Nothing. He's just a Preator, he'll be speaking to his superiors, who will speak to their superiors. We'll give them two hours. If they don't reply by then we'll cover the Assimilators as they drop in."

@GeneralHomsar: I'd like to quote the Minister of Defense when I say: "As always, your powers of perception are flawless."

@Fate: Thanks, I do what I can

@dystopic: Yeah, they must've been sweatin' bullets

On with the show!

Part IX: Its officially hit the fan...

15 minutes later...

Paulos IV, Paulos High Command:

"WHERE IS THE PRIME MINISTER!?" Screamed Admiral Urgo, Commander of the United Paulosian Armed Forces, which wasn't as prestigous as it sounded.

Just then a Paulosian came running through a door and shouted, "Sir, he's dead! He detonated a plasma charge while it was still in his hands!"

"Damn it! I told him we should never have taken that ship! Whats the status of the enemy fleet?" Urgo said, turning to an aide standing next to him.

"There are 14 frigates in the enemy fleet sir. One of them is the PathFinder, it seems it has been overhauled completely. All enemy ships posess missile-type weapons platforms. They're total attack capability is roughly 80 times our own."

"What about their transports? What do they have for transports?"

"Long range scans have discovered two Assimilator class Transports a few parsecs out from the PathFinder fleet. We are detecting, my god... There are atleast 2 billion life signs on each vessel sir!"

"May Chama have mercy on us."

Back in orbit:

"Captain, the Transport is moving off. They seem to be going at a heading of 15 degrees, at about 8% of our full speed."

"Set an intercept course Lt."

"Belay that order, this is my ship Commander Torek, remember that. We don't engage unless Rochek says so." Soaren said.

"Aye sir. Should we inform the Admiral of the new development?"

"He probably already knows. Thega wouldn't let such a good excuse to open fire slip past his scans." Soaren let out a little laugh.

"There's no harm in being cautious. It kept us from getting turned to plasma exhaust once or twice back on PathFinder, remember?" Torek added.

"Agreed. Ensign, let our friends on PathFinder know whats going on with the Preator's ship."

"SIR! The Transport is preparing to ram our Starboard side!" The Harbinger, first of her class, was holding up the right flank of the fleet, which was holding position in a level arch near the planet's equator.

"Damn it! They're going to try to smash the fleet against itself! Open fire on they're engines, then they're command bridge! Ensign, call the PathFinder and tell them whats going on." Soaren quickly gave out orders, attempting to save the lives of not only her crew, but those of the entire fleet.

On the PathFinder:

"Shit, I was afraid they'd try something stupid. Henry, tell the fleet to break formation, and tell them to make sure they don't run into eachother."

"Aye sir."

"Sir, the Defenders are powering weapons, they are targeting the Harbinger's weapons array." Thega reported.

"Damn, open fire. Send the word, weapons free on all enemy ships, I repeat, weapons free on enemy SHIPS only."

And just that quickly, the battle for Paulos IV had begun.

And sorry for taking so long to post again XP

Part X: Nap Time continued...

Back at the Paulos Embassy on Earth:

To the untrained eye the fight between Red and Green looked incredibly fierce, but in reality they weren't truly harming each other. The reason for this was three-fold. One, they had no intention of harming each other; two, they were the most highly trained Spec-Ops soldiers in the sector, perhaps the galaxy; three, their heavily cyberized bodies allowed them to make real blows without actually doing damage.

Within moments several of the front door guards rushed to the scene to break up the fight, but a few well placed "accidental" blows by Red and Green dropped them quickly. It was then that the remaining guards rushed in to support, but not without calling for backup first.

Inside the storage area of the embassy Orange was waiting in the shadows, then he saw his queue. Six of the eight guards in the room ran out, presumably to take care of some "noise." Perfect, more of them left then I had hoped. Orange thought to himself. Sneaking out from his hiding place Orange was able to render both guards unconscious rather easily. He then proceeded to the computer core, which was standing in the open. Reaching out to touch it he felt a slight sting and noticed a small ring of light ripple out from where his hand had been stung, and bend around revealing the bubble shape of the shield that protected the core.

Well, what do we have here? Now, how will I be getting around you? Orange looked around for a shield generator. There, in the ceiling were three shield arrays around a central generator. And that Orange thought to himself, must be the control panel. Orange proceeded to a control panel in the back of the room, almost directly behind the core. Lets see... re-route some power here, shutdown a relay there, aaaannnd... gotcha!

"Blue, this is Orange. I shutdown a small security field that was protecting the core, I'm placing the plasma charges now. You know, its a good thing the field is there, I can turn it back on and use it to contain all the energy near the core, which would make sure every circuit is destroyed."

"Orange this is Blue, make sure you snap some pictures first, Ultra-High Res ones. The only way we can avoid the political fallout of Operation Frog Legs is to make sure everyone knows that the Paulos started it."

"Gotcha."

Orange took a few pictures of the core and the various signs of Paulos design in the room, then placed a high-yield plasma charge on the core and set it for five minutes. The charge contained the equivalent explosive energy of five kilos of C-4, yet only weighed one, and unlike C-4 it burned hot and slow, it would turn the atmosphere within the shield to high-energy plasma and totally vaporize the core. Orange then reactivated the shield and proceeded back to the steam room through the maintenance corridors.

"Team, this is Orange, its done."

At that signal Red let Green land a solid blow to the gut, then to the face, or at least they looked solid. Red fell, Green grabbed a few credits from his pocket and ran, Blue screamed and then began pawing at her "husband." Several of the guards, those that remained conscious, chased Green and were soon joined by a pair of police officers. Green ducked behind a dark alley, then leaped nearly 10 meters into the air, grabbing onto a window sill, then braced her legs against the wall and leaped another 10 meters to the roof. There she continued to leap and climb until she reached the designated safe zone.

Once Orange got to the steam room he resumed his charade as a Paulosian official, pretending that he too had dozed off like the rest and attributed it to a hard days work at the office. When his chronometer determined the plasma charge would go off in 90 seconds he bid his fellows good day and left the room. Just as he left the locker room there was a muffled rumble, so much so that it didn't even shake the building. That was some shield. Orange thought, honestly impressed. Orange continued toward the entrance, where he was stopped by a security guard.

"I'm sorry sir, but there has been an incident, and we can't allow you to leave the building."

"An incident? What happened? Did it have something to do with that noise a few minutes ago? Are the Terrans under attack? By Chama I hope not. Come now, open your mouth young man, tell me what's going on!"

"Sir! Please calm down, all I can tell you is that an explosive was activated in the storage area, and we actually know little more than that. So please go to the reception area, we will need to speak with everyone in the building."

"Alright, but this better be quick, I have a lot of important business to attend to."

While Orange expertly worked through being interrogated, by those who were very much not experts, Red and Blue filed a report on Green, and were being quite worthless in their descriptions of the events and of Green. Green was making arrangements to make sure no one would be able to recognize her, mostly by programming her skin and eyes to a different color, and by exchanging her face and hands with human ones found in her suitcase. She then equiped herself with one of her cover id's and made her way to the starport, where she would board the Coalition trade vessel that made rounds between Terra and Endor Prime.

A few hours later the others joined their team mate aboard the vessel, and quietly celebrated a mission gone spectacularly well.

Part XI: Desperate Measures call for Stern Punisment...

Back on Paulos IV the battle continues...

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS DESTROYED!?! OUR ONLY HOPE OF SURVIVING THIS ATTACK WAS TO TRADE THAT TECHNOLOGY FOR TERRAN SUPPORT!" Admiral Urgo screamed hoarsely at the strangely calm Paulosian ambassador on the view screen.

"I'm sorry sir, it seems someone bypassed the security field, placed a plasma charge, and then reactivated the field. The field contained the blast and thoroughly destroyed the core."

"I hope you realize that your name will be remembered for centuries as the baffoon who allowed our entire civilization to be annihilated!"

"Sir, I'm not the one who provoked The Coalition. I, along with the entire Ministry of Foreign Relations, warned the Prime Minister that The Coalition would not tolerate us taking that ship. We then warned him to pick any race except the Terrans and Korx to trade with, but he had to go choose the Terrans."

"I know that! I told him the same thing myself! When they find out the pilot was executed they'll probably kill us all!"

"The Coalition isn't stupid, or insane. They'll execute the heads of government and leave their own officials to take their place. I'm safe here on Terra, they'll probably even let me keep my job. You, on the other hand, are a dead man."

The Admiral now wished he were face to face with this man, so he could choke the life out of him. Not being able to vent his frustrations the Admiral merely fumed for a few seconds, his eyes growing larger and a deeper orange color by the second. Admiral Urgo slammed the button to end the communication, breaking it in the process.

"We had all that technology and we don't have anything to show for it?!" Admiral Urgo screamed at the nearest technician.

"Sir, the tecnology was so far beyond us it would take several years to understand it all. Thats why we had to sell it, it wasn't much use to us."

Admiral Urgo's rage continued to build. Idiots! I'm surrounded by idiots! Isn't anyone else trying to prevent our annihilation?! In a fit of frustration and maddening rage he pulled out his sidearm and fired on the technician, killing him instantly. There, now I feel better.

The problem with missiles and mass drivers is that space is huge, and even traveling at a thousand miles an hour it can take several seconds for these types of weapons to reach out and touch the enemy. So while Harbinger's missiles were only half-way to their target her weapons array was rendered in-operative by the two Defender's laser based weapons. A few seconds later these defenders faced the onslaught of missiles from seven Harbinger frigates and the PathFinder flagship. Needless to say, they were destroyed almost instantly.

However, while Harbinger's missiles did destroy the engines and command bridge of Corgus' ship, the heaving bulk of the hull continued to careen toward the Harbinger and her crew purely on inertia.

"Get us the hell out of here Ensign!"

"Can't Captain, the command relays from the helm to the engines were taken out by the Paulosian Defenders. It'll have to be done from Engineering."

Captain Soaren touched a contact on the arm of her chair and called into the intercom, "Lieutenant Beleg! We've lost helm control, we need you to get us out of the path of that Transport!"

"I'm on it Captain!" The Eren woman responded.

As the burning wreck of the late Preator Corgus' ship continued to advance, Harbinger's engines roared to life and she began to move forward and out of the ship's way. But it was a few seconds too late, and the tail end of the ship was clipped by the transport as it passed.

Commander Torek was the first to recover from the impact, "Engineering, damage report."

A groan was heard on the other side, "Umm, uhh, we've lost our starboard engine. Several sections were crushed by the impact, and were venting warp plasma." The voice was not that of Lt. Beleg.

"Who is this? Where is the Lieutenant?" Soaren asked.

"This is Ensign Moros, Lieutenant Beleg is dead."

"Damn it, she's been with us since PathFinder Torek. Rochek was real pissed when I took her from him. Corgus is so very luck he's already dead, because I'd kill him if he wasn't."

"Lets save the reminiscing for after we aren't in mortal danger, okay?"

"Right. Ensign, can you get us out of orbit? In our condition we couldn't take the explosion thats bound to finish off the Preator's ship."

"Yes sir, just give me a minute to figure out the extent of the damage." Ensign Moros' voice answered.

"Good, you better make it quick." Soaren turned to her comm officer. "Inform the fleet of our status."

"Yes sir." The Ensign nodded and went to work.

A few minutes later Harbinger limped away and proceeded to the shipyards over Paulos II, one of the two planets in the Paulos system already colonized by The Coalition, for immediate emergency repairs.

With the defending fleet destroyed PathFinder called for the Assimilators to come in and take the planet. The battle on land wasn't nearly as eventfull as the one in space. The soldiers of the Endoran Coalition were the most highly trained in the sector, and when The Coalition broadcast the deeds of the Paulosian government across Paulos IV, many civilians and soldiers decided they'd prefer life within The Endoran Coalition of Worlds.

During the chaos of the initial invasion several of the Paulosian high officials escaped in personal ships equiped with makeshift Hyperwarp engines, no doubt built using information gleaned from the stolen computer core. While Coalition intelligence was unable to discover their destination, it was only a matter of time...

Great story. Bookmarked. When are you going to get to the terrans?
THAT should be interesting
