Choose the class of your Flagship?

...will it be possible?

Currently, all the capships we've seen are (theoretically) all equally valuable. While I know some people want to change that, I think keeping them flat-priced has some advantages. For example, might it be possible (particularly in MP) to choose which class you want as your capital ship? Might add a bit of variety, particularly to the early game... (do I go for the firepower of the Kol, the early colonizing of the Akkan, etc).

A way might be having to research the flagship technology in order to get them. So you decide what ability you want your flagship to have. If you want to research ability with firepower or you prefer colonization or maybe a bit of both depending on what you choose to pick.

What do you think?

Yarlen: Excellent

hexenjag: Eh, not much a fan -- that'd slow down the early game *considerably*. The capship is the pirate-breaker, and having to wait for research could be rough.

Yeah you are right that would slow down the early game. Maybe then choose 2/4 ability and you have to research the remaining 2 and this way you can customize you cap ship better then having 4 pre-set skills. dunno

I don't like the idea of having to research capital ships, their cost should be enough of an inhibitor.
I really like the idea of being able to choose your flagship, that would be quite interesting to see what people choose.

It would be nice to pick your starting flagship...

I was referring to Tsed, lordkosc.  No flying office buildings piloted by pink space ponies for you.

rather than researching the Capital ship abilities, you could only end up researching the hull types. As the guns on some of them are also part of other defense systems like the gauss cannon, JRMs and their misiles vs the ones on the Dreadnoughts, etc.

Varying only on strength on the capital ship vs. the one on the smaller ships.

I am really looking forward to being able to select the class of my flagship. This will make for some interesting early encounters...although I suspect most people will go for the Sova Carrier or Arkan BC.

lol, im almost surprised that you didnt just edit it out, then I remembered you arent kryo

speaking of, I know that you have said you are knee deep in the patch, and I know you hate giving out ETA's, but can I get a really rough timeframe? (and if you say within the month, i will destroy all of the beer in a 500 mile radius of Yarlen, and try getting any work done THEN)

PS, No, the Overseer does not have a drinking problem.

PPS, No, Craig didn't edit this in.

PPPS, No, really, he didn't.

PPPPS, You get where I'm going here, right?

Of course not.

No one would take the suggestion of adding Pink Space Ponies seriously, for example.

./pssst, whisper whisper whisper!

Oh. Er, pink space ponies in flying office buildings!

Er.... Pink space ponies in flying office buildings that... that.... oh I give up!

I would have liked it if the Flagship was either a main capital ship but significantly more powerful, or it's own separate entity of a space ship. Kind of like how the Enterprise is always the best ship out of the fleet in whatever Star Trek time period you have, as opposed to the flagship just being another generic ship that just happens to be housing the President/Emperor of government, so that when it gets destroyed your civilization gets wiped out...........?

Your Flagship IS significantly more powerful than other capital ships. It starts with a couple of extra levels.

It continues to remain a few levels higher than your other capital ships (unless the game lasts a long time).

believe me when i say that games go on for a long time! one game i played for 7 hrs (not straigt!) but all of my 11 cap ships were 10s.

I say just give the flagship a 10% bonus across the board, making is EXTRA special.

I agree then you really would have a flagship, esp if you choose a Akkan

Oh come on, we all know you get spammed with useless ideas like Pink Space Ponies in flying office buildings. And crazy ideas like making planetary defenses meaningful, of all things. Some people are just crazy... defenses which are actually worth the cost? Thats not part of any RTS in existence...
