Battlefleet Gothic

Battlefleet Gothic

I don't know if any of you guys are a fan of the mini's genera. Did anyone here ever play games workshops short lived Battlefleet Gothic.

That game was pretty fun.

Some of the stuff I liked from there.

1. Massive torpedoes

Were talking about ship killers that you had to move the ship out of the way from and could use to move other guys ships out of areas that you wanted to go into.

2. Boarding action

You could fire "boarding torpedoes" and basically take over a ship or failing at that sabotage large sections of it.

3. Ramming / Fire Ships

Some ships could ram it was pretty sweet some could also function like a big torpedo.... that was awesome.

4. The ships had sections you could knock out an engine ... that was pretty cool.

5. Ships could really blow up

As in they would implode and take down anyone who happened to be near them that was pretty awesome.

6. Some ships as i recall could use gravitic and solar wind effects

Are you going to be keeping capital ship experience and levels in the mod?
Yes, Capitol ship experience and levels will be for battleships and grand cruisers, which are traditionally command ships, and this will represent the use of better commanding officers. However, the growth won't be as pronounced, as it will only affect the leadership (read antimatter reserves) and some other minor stuff. The battle stats will be generally unchanged, but the added leadership will make the ships more able to fight effectively. Also, I'd like to give it a leadership (antimatter) boosting aura to represent re-rolls that increases with its level.

DP, but I wanted the bump, because I finally finished the feature list (you've seen the ships section before):

-SHIPS:

Chaos: (ships generally are fast, with heavy ranged firepower, strong cruisers)

-Planet Killer

Battleships:
-Despoiler Battleship (carrier battleship with ferocious prow lances if you want to risk closing)
-Desolator Battleship (fast battleship with powerful lance broadsides and heavy prow torps)

Grand Cruisers:
-Repulsive Grand Cruiser (powerful broadside weapons batterys and prow torps joined by lances close in)

Nice update! Was just wondering, are you putting Grand Cruisers for IN in?

BFG would have been so awesomme if there were 15 km long sips and stuff :P.

But how did the IN destroy Behemoth? Behemoth had a billion ships, literally, did the IN have a superior number of ships? I mean Behemoth was only present in the eastern fringe, not all of the empires fleets would have been moved (Or cadia would have been doomed and the 14th black crusade would have devoured the imperium, lol!)

One must take into account a few things.

Hive Fleet Behemoth did not ONLY attack maccrage. They fought the Imperial Navy all the way to maccrage, in a war of attrition, where the imperium would abandon a planet, let behemoth land on it, and then commence an exterminatus. This allowed the Imperium to lose very few (almost no) ships and do massive damage to the Hive fleet. Finally, when the remains of Behemoth (starved of resources because of their inability to chow down on Imperial planets) engaged not only Battlefleet Ultima but the ENTIRE ULTRAMARINES CHAPTER in orbit. Horrendous losses for both sides, but ultimately the destruction of Behemoth.

Besides, most of those billion ships were tiny drones. Same with the martian-jovian asteroid belt: at least 75%, iirc, of the total mass of the asteroid belt is concentrated into FOUR ASTEROIDS. They had a lot of ships, granted, but not enough big ones to really compete with the thousands of heavy cruisers that the imperium was fielding.

I would think that an Emperor or a Retribution is somewhere in the neighborhood of 15km, right? I know space hulks and some Cairn tombships are.

I don't know but if yes, then the Cruisers really aren't that much smaller (probably still bigger than 10 Km). So I've started painting my Retribution, and I've gotten the prow done (like 8,000 coats of white with gold for the lining). I've started painting the first weapons battery now.

I'm not sure, because they do fill a role as flagships for the early game, but the IN has a ton of ships already, and so we're not sure if we're going to do the Armada grand cruisers for this release.

"For this release" so there is still hope? I'm serious about getting a job soon (might be complicated with no license though, I'm 16 and a half and still don't have one lol) and when I do most of my money will go towards a new computer, but a few dollars here and there are going towards a Grand Cruiser model ;p

Don't worry, you'll see the repulsive and maybe some of the chaos gcs to fill their numbers of capitol ships, but I think the model is right about the last priority for inert, so if we get everything else done, they'll be added in later.

Also, Inert, if you see this, that lance turret platform has a problem because the guns need to be broken down into quadrants, so adding an arm will make it work a lot better.

Ooh, a lance platform? Will that imply the existance of Weapons platforms and Torpedo platforms, to add a little bit of strategy in what kind of defensive static munitions you place?
Look at page before Keilworth...iNert posted model of Chaos Lance Platform!

Oh and xthetenth you posted this:

-Merchant... erm, merchantman? (weak light cruiser with relatively potent firepower, can carry orcas)

Are you wondering what it is really called or just making a joke to the fact that they are merchantmen and have ships with big guns on them?

If it's the former then the ship is just Merchant-Class if it's the latter then Lol...

(Also, are you including both variants of the Merchant-Class, orca one and uber weapons one or are you combining them?)

Of course, you can use the three to defend differently against different opponents.

Oh, and yes, I was joking on that and the fact that all the other ships have a type designation as well, but they don't seem to have one that applies other than their name repeated. And we will almost assuredly include both variants. I wonder how we're going to deal with orcas... It might not be working for the alpha/beta versions.

Yeah, how ARE there going to be ships that can't phase jump? (Or warpjump, or whatever...are there going to be chnages in game setup to orient things less around the gravity wells?)
I dunno, it's a very good question that I have a feeling will lead to a few sleepless nights. I'd like to be able to make them work like squadrons, but that might not work. Also, as another idea to fit the lore and make for a very orky waaaaaagh! feeling, what about making the ork fleet rely on the presence of a hulk or battleship to phase jump between stars? It'd be relatively simple to implement, and would really make the ork player build up massive waaaaghs to avoid wasting chances to move their ships. I just hope it works properly for the AI and stuff.

hmm, if we compare the size og an emperor to a shark, or interceptor and we reckon it's about 10m i'd say they are a little larger than Stock capitals, maybe the size of an imperial star destroyer, i hardly think they are 10km long or so...
would've been awesomme though :P

ISDs are about a km and a half, IIRC, while bfg cruisers are about 3 km long. Large escorts are almost as big as an ISD. Battleships are about 5 km long, so the super star destroyers dwarf them.
i read somewhere that battleships in BFG are 8km long (IN ones)
alright, back to the tyranid topic; Even if only a 1/1000 fleet were hive ships or cruisers it would make 1 million big ships, and many drone and the standard drone types are escort sized, so if 1/1000 of the fleet are bigger than drones and then 5/1000 and the rest are "tiny drones" that makes a pretty impressive fleet. i doubt the IN could take 1 million cruiser+ ships.

unless behemoth is waaay smaller than all the backstory i read about it.
:P

Super Star Destroyers are 19 Km :p

pff, what's an SSD in comparison to an eclipse? Sorry last derail from my side.

The Eclipse is a SSD... even then it doesn't count (if you're talking about the FoC one) because it was used when not build and then tossed aside. And its dumb.

EDIT:
LOL LOOK AT THIS CONVERSION! ITS SO AWESOME!

Behemoth was a pipsqueak compared to Kraken and Leviathan

The 1/1000 statistic is...reasonable, but that's really more the ratio of mindless grub drones to legit BFG ship. And, there's probably a 1/100 ratio of cruisers to hive ships. That's ten thousand battleships. And, considering that Behemoth split up many times, not always massing to attack a system...you get the idea.

Also, don't forget that the Imperials didn't wage a campaign of battling it at all times, but quite literally starved it, so that by the time the attack came on Macragge, the fleet was weakened. Also, the battle was only won when the Imperial flagship punched into the center of the hive fleet and blew its warp drives, inflicting disproportionate damage.

Additionally, a warp vortex robbed the tyranid fleet of their synapse control, helping out the Imperials further.

Omg I love that uber battleship! I want it!
