Whisper Notification Scroll lock request

I have request. I navigate a lot in the game by scrolling out with my mouse wheel and scrolling back again to zoom in on my cursor location. Sometime I happen to try to zoom in on the place where I get whispers and instead of zooming in I scroll the whisper window instead. Is there a way to lock that window, or make it unresponsive to my direct control. It isn't really a priority, just occasionally annoying when I'm trying to move around the game field. Thanks.

This was an early request from beta 1 but we still haven't come up with a suitable solution aside from reducing the area (which we did for beta 2). We don't really want to lock it because its important to be able to access previous messages incase you missed them (especially in multiplayer). We'll keep at it, and welcome any solutions people can come up with

Hmm, what if it's changed in such a way that you have to click in the text window to get it in focus. Similar to how Windows works.
Without clicking in the text window, the mouse wheel would ignore the scrolling. But if you do click anywhere within the text box, it gains focus and the mouse wheel functions as a scroll function there.

Or another solution would be to remove the current focus and highlight from the text box such that it cannot be scrolled through or highlighted, and all the previous messages could be accessed through a separate button somewhere on the UI.

Or the 3rd option I can think of, would be to move the scrolling to the keyboard, and have the mouse wheel function as zoom only, regardless of whether it's on top of the chat box or not. Shift + Page Up/Down could be used to scroll through the previous messages received.

MMO's have had to deal with this in regards to their chat windows. They allow users to adjust the transparency, dimensions, whether or not the chat window can be clicked through, etc.

I have experienced what the OP posted about. It is annoying when it happens.

The first time it happened, I was surprised to find out those messages could be scrolled with the mouse. Not seeing an outline of a message box w/ a scroll bar, I had figured they were just there and not something I could interact with.

I was going to suggest somewhat transparent scrollbars and only initiate the scroll if the scrollbars are used. However, I can see how that would also be frustrating to people as the scrolling option makes it very quick to mouse over that message area and quickly scroll up and down.

Actually I can't see a reason, why I would need to see past messages very quickly. If it would go my way, this message box would be disabled anyway, I couldn't care less for it. It really annoys me when I'm zooming. I hate it. AAARRRRGGGHHHH!

Uh, ah, where was I?

Yes, that sounds like a good idea. Short of disabling it (which would be my favourite option) this idea sounds it would bother normal playing the least.

This would be even worse than the problem we have now. It's more important to be able to select something through that area than to be able to zoom to it. I'd like to try the idea of only having it respond to scrolls when you press enter (and have your own chat box active).

Why dont just make a chat window that you have to bring out pressing enter or something, while just displaying the messages when they are sent on the main screen.

You'll want that message box if you're playing multiplayer to see other player's messages. Unless you don't want to speak with anyone ever.
